Actually it appears that the song is by Autotune.
Ummm I Will Always Love You deserve a much higher ranking the Honorable mention.
,,Hurt'' broke my into pieces even though I don't know why, it's a masterpiece and Aguilera's vocals are chef's kiss ❤️
Same
I still can’t hear the song without crying, reminds me of my late dad
@@AfterFivepm Christina Aguilera's voice in that song is so hurtful in a good way.
I like Hurt by Johnny Cash.
Which is why she should have been #1 on this list. That voice alone as well as the heartfelt lyrics makes her the winner.
Completely shocked My Immortal by Evanescence is not on this list at all. It’s by far one of the saddest songs ever.
Probably because it's not a pop song
@@LunarEclipse360 Pop technically means what’s “Popular” it had crossed over, and appeared on the Hot 100! Which was a pop hit as well 🤷🏽♂️
@@dustinthelovejones Pop is a Genre of music. My Immortal does not fall into the genre of Pop music. Just because a song is 'popular' does not make it a 'Pop' song
EXACTLY!
I think Forgive me is sadder
I had cancer when I was 14. I hadn’t heard Ronan’s song before, but hearing the clip on here just brings it all back. Seeing the small children with drips attached to them, whilst playing in the hospital was just heartbreaking. I was extremely lucky, but those other kids had to fight so hard. I hope they’re ok, this was 20 years ago.
I'm so happy that you bit cancer! You're an amazing person n deserve the best of the world can give you
English isn't my first language so I'm sorry if I misspelled 😁
Cancer is relentless. I lost several family members to cancer. I pray that someday, very soon, all cancer will go away completely and forever. I am so happy that you fought the battle and won. I pray that you will continue to be well and live a long, wonderful life with many blessings. I pray that everyone, who is still fighting with this awful sickness, will beat it and get well very soon. May God bless and give strength to everyone fighting with different health issues. Keep the fighting and keep shining, sweetheart! Peace, Love, And Many Blessings To You Always. 🙏🏻💞😇💞💪🏻💞✌🏻💞🇺🇸
@@EmilySilva-ny2en Thank you so much for your lovely and kind message. I share your sentiment and hope and pray that cancer goes away completely. I follow the news stories and I’m hoping that the cure for cancer is getting closer.
I hope you’re well, and I’m sending you lots of love, peace and hugs x x x
I'm glad that you beat Cancer. My niece was 8. We lost her to DIPG in February a month shy of a year from being diagnosed.
❤️
“Say Something,” A Great Big World ft Christina Aguilera.
Can't believe it's not on this list.
How did it get skipped?
“Say Something” always makes me rather emotional. I’d also add “100 Years” by Five for Fighting, because what’s sadder than facing your own mortality?
I'd say "Dancing on my Own" from Robyn deserves a spot here
I still remember Raven and Jujubee’s lip sync, they made drag race fans cry
@@gerardgarcia8501 Same
Yes. That song hits hard
No. She sucks.
Calum Scott's version adds another emotional layer to the song.
I would add "Say Something" to this list.
Hopelessness is so scarily bad.
"Say something, I'm giving up on you..." That lyric (especially the way it was sung) and the piano notes in the background was palpable!
Absolutely!
So right
And the music video also !
Its really a heart breaking track
I agree. Say Something is a tear jerker.
How is Tears In Heaven missing from this list?!!?? Eric Clapton's pain from the death of his child is palpable, and the song is utterly heart wrenching
I was thinking the same.
Because these songs are all for Millenials and Gen Z.
@@markbrown9458 even in the honorable mention category at least! Whitney was in the honorable mention
I agree that it is heartbreaking, but it was probably not listed because Eric Clapton is considered more rock than pop
@@markbrown9458 Tears in Heaven fall into that category.
Sinead O'Connor's version of Prince's song: 'Nothing Compares 2 U' still hits me in the feels.
Saaame
The Chris Cornell version is the one that always gets me.
chris cornell's cover of it is very well-di=one and
I was genuinely surprised it wasn't number one. I hate when people make "ever" videos, and like 90% of the entries are less than twenty years old.
I am shocked that Lady Gaga's "Til it Happens to You," didn't make it onto the list. The song's subject matter is absolutely devastating and heartbreaking. I can't listen to that song without weeping.
Or give me a reason
Ugh the video😭😭
You have any ideia of how many thousands songs are there ? Why would you want that the one you like should be in the list ?
What about I'll never love again??
🤣🤣🤣
I lost my 3 1/2 year old son to the same cancer Ronan had. When I heard this song for the first time it was like she wrote it for my family personally. I lost it. Such a beautiful song!
I’ll always remember a song by Christina Aguilera called “I’m Okay” a very close friend of mine used to play for me. She sadly died of an overdose in 2018 and that song has always stayed with me as her memory.
Such a sad song…. It was about her biological dad and what he did to her & her mom when she was a child
I’m so sorry for your loss.
That song gets me every time! I grew up in foster care because both of my parents were alcoholics and had mental issues. My mom was anorexic (and died from it when I was 17) and my dad was paranoid and delusional, and sometimes abusive to her and my older brother.
In the beginning my foster parents were amazing, but as I grew older they started to treat me very badly, and psychologist have later told me it was mental abuse.
The song reminds me of everything I’ve been through and the scars never seem to truly heal.
But then again, somehow I managed to stay alive and find my way through it all. I found the man, that was able to heal me. We’re now engaged, have the most beautiful and wonderful 5 year old daughter and I am expecting our son.
@@familieliv1144 I’m sorry you went through all of that. Congrats on the new baby.
My father was abusive and that song is heartbreaking.
I expected Family Portrait from P!nk to be on this list, but not even a honorable mention. Also while technically not a pop song Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is also up there for me.
Preach!! Me too, and I'm so bummed!! P!nk never gets the credit and recognition that she deserves, especially for helping so many of us who've struggled throughout our lives, feel like, and know that we're not alone! I LOVE her!
I would’ve had Who Knew on here as well. That one is my favorite song by her.
My sentiments exactly! P!nk's gut wrenching vocals on the song bring me to tears every time I hear it.
I love that she wrote the song about how she felt, when her parents fought, before they divorced, when she was a kid.
who knew and family portrait for sure always make me sad
Kesha's live performance of "Praying" at the Grammys was even more emotional than the album version.
I bawled like a fcking baby!😭
She killed that
"Lucky" by Britney Spears is very sad to listen to, despite its upbeat sound. It makes you wonder if it was based on Britney's own experiences on being hounded by the tabloids.
Ikr?!
So true
Many of her songs are pretty sad
I absolutely think that is what that song is about.
Exactly what I think when I hear it now years later
Only one song makes me cry all the time. Family portrait - pink. Best heartbreaking song ever 💜💝🌹
Yes. I was going through a divorce and I thought of my kids, especially my daughter perspective. 🫤
Yes! Same!!
Several years ago I had watched this young kid on American Idol. Although he didn't have the best voice, he certainly had stage presence. So I went to look up some of his original songs.
That's where I heard one of the saddest songs I've ever heard in my life. Just soul crushing.
The kid's name was Dalton Rapattoni and the song was called "Stop".
*Be aware if you do decide to hear the song it's about suicide*
Have you ever heard "Why" by Rascal Flatts? It's the most gut wrenching song about suicide I've ever heard. I lost my 18-year-old daughter to suicide. My only thought for the longest time was "why?" Years later I was driving down the highway and "Why" came on the radio. I had to pull over until I got myself together.
I'm surprised to not see "My Heart Will Go On" from Celine Dion, I know to this day a lot of people would still tear up listening to it.
I also feel like "Who Knew" by Pink is quite sad, knowing it's about her losing friends to drug abuse and coping with the loss makes it more heartbreaking.
Thank you for mentioning P!nk! She has written & sung some of the saddest, and most real songs as a "pop" star and is hardly recognized when she truly has helped so many of us who are struggling, get through our darkest days knowing that we're not alone.
I agree about "My Heart Will Go On". I'm one of those people you mention.
Pink is amazing at everything
Celine Dion song Ashe's would be much more better if you know the context and realize the true meaning of the song which it is about losing a love one
@@G2S2H2 yes she is. I love her too. I remember her. and I also like her song fuckin perfect too. that song reminds me a lot about things man.
Unbreake my heart is so beautiful. I really like Toni Braxton.
"Almost Lover" by A Fine Frenzy deserves to be on this list! No matter how many times I listen to the song, I just cry 😢
Yesssssss!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was the only one who knew it.
Yes!!
Hurt by Christina Aguilera makes me cry every time I hear it 😢 I know that people will probably get mad at me, but Dolly Parton sang I Will Always Love You!! Out of all the songs you put on the list, I only knew about 4 or 5 of them.
I agree. One of the better songs she released.
I like the Hurt remix better. Great song nontheless.
Glad you made the comment about I will always love you. Not only did Dolly Parton sing it many years before Whitney, but she wrote that song too. Whitney’s version is good, but it will always be Dollys song, and I love her versions of it.
@@katequinn2853 thank you so much for your reply, and I completely agree with you. Dolly wrote that song for her friend when she was leaving his tv show.
Thank youuu! Dolly is THE QUEEN!
Hurt is the song that gets me 😭😭😭😭😭
See You Again by Carrie Underwood is also phenomenal.
.
We played that for my grandfather’s funeral 🥰
"Try" by Nelly Furtado is a underrated sad song about trying your best for someone and that were free in our love.
Nelly Furtado is a Queen of the mid 2000s along with Fergie and Gwen Stefani
Love Nelly Furtado. She's very talented both as an artist and singer, her voice is very unique as well. It's a shame that she's so overlooked nowadays, there was a time that she was one of the biggest pop stars of the globe.
Fantastic song with perfect lyrics
"Show me a meaning of being lonely" by Backstreet Boys never fails to make me cry. The saddest pop song for me
Much better than Incomplete
I thought the same thing!
Omg yes that’s my fav Backstreet song. It’s so haunting and AJ’s voice holds such depth and beauty…
"I still need you" is another one that would top "Incomplete," but I would still play all three of these songs if I needed something to listen to when I'm in a downer mood.

Say Something - A great big world
Lonely - Justin Bieber
Always Remember Us This Way - Lady Gaga
Everybody Hurts R.E.M is a classic for misery.
Definitely want to mention Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran, because that song absolutely breaks me every time I hear it. The reason behind its creation, the touchingly intimate lyrics, the melancholy yet somehow hopeful music, all of it combine to make one of the most poignantly beautiful songs about mourning that I have ever heard.
I stumbled upon "Supermarket Flowers" in 2018, around the time my 31yo cousin died from cervical cancer.
Oh yes! Even the starting lyrics have me tearing up.
“I Will Always Love You” is still one of my 250+ most favorite songs of all time.
I know, right?
That should be #1. It was written by Dolly Parton and is genuine.
Sam Smith- I'm way too good at goodbyes
11 minutes- Yungblud, Halsey
Demi lovato- Stone Cold
Demi lovato- sober
Christina Aguilera's "Say something" should have been in this Top 10!
I still mantain that Kesha’s Praying should’ve won Best Vocal Performance at the Grammys instead of Ed Shee tan’s Shape of You 🤦🏻♀️

Gwen Stefani/ No doubt's " don't speak"should be on the list
Yes! I was a child when it came out. I used to cry listening to it on the radio despite not really understanding the lyrics. It’s such a powerful song.
Facts
I’d add Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails to the list as well - the video is heartbreaking.
That song makes me feel so intensely sad.
I think Johmny Cash' version of Hurt is the best video ever ever made but also the most painful to watch.
Yeah the video just makes you want to reach out and hug him. There is a scene where he is sitting at a table with a feast on it and he takes a glass of either wine or some other alcoholic beverage and pours it all the food. True fact his own museum had burnt down a few weeks before he shot the video.
Yes. Million times yes.
Except that is a country song

The Power of Goodbye-Madonna.
Perfect-Pink
Concrete Angel-Martina McBride
Mad World-Various artists
Crash and Burn-Savage Garden
Cry For Help-Rick Astley

How to save a life by the fray could have also been here. That song breaks me every time.
Who knew by pink is my favorite it always makes me a little teary eyed
Definitely that song and also family portrait have both made me cry more times than I'd like to admit. I love pink though always have and always will. The amount of different emotions different songs make you feel depending on your mood and other things is amazing.
Yes I thought it would be on the list.
I am surprised that "A Great Big World, Christina Aguilera - Say Something" was not even mentioned
Hurt deserved the first spot! Such a sad song
"Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton should be number one
So sad.
one off ma fav, but it's rock not pop
@@Makaveli807 It's rock and pop. Pop means popular music and it was definitely that.
@vahi37 In this list, they clearly mean pop the « genre » which « Tears in heaven » is not.
The saddest is "I can't make you love me" by Bonnie Raitt. I'm surprised it isn't on the list.
These always get to me: Don Henley's "Heart of the Matter," James Blunt's "Goodbye my Lover," The Fray's "How to Save a Life," Brandi Carlile's "Right on Time," Taylor Swift's "Back to December," and Elton John's "The Last Song."
"Praying" - Kesha

"Head above water" by Avril Lavigne.
"Ghost of you" by Selena Gomez.
"Catch me when I fall" by Ashlee Simpson.
And many others.
Praying by Kesha is my fav one on the list , in fact all songs are amazing on this list
🎵 Say Something I'm giving up on you 🎵 😭
"Almost Over You" Sheena Easton
"All I Know" Art Garfunkel
"You Don't Remember Me" Dianne Schuur
"In The Winter" Janis Ian
"At Seventeen" Janis Ian
So many Ed Sheeran songs deserve a spot. Here they are:
-First Times
-The Joker and The Queen
-Love In Slow Motion
-Visiting Hours
-Dive
-Happier
-Supermarket Flowers
-Save Myself
Not forgetting Afire Love
@@boineelomooketsi9838 Also Circle Game by P!nk and champagne problems by Taylor Swift
You totally missed #1, the saddest song ever is Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven, written after his little boy accidentally fell to his death.
The category was heartbreak, and there is not bigger heartbreak for a human being than the loss of a child.
Ronna is literally about 4 yr old who dies of cancer, which is co written by the mother who lost her child
Not a pop song.
Wait, hold up...
Where's 'My Immortal' by Evanescence?
THAT song rightfully deserves to be on this list!
I hope whoever at Ms. Mojo make another 'Saddest Songs' list, that you put AT LEAST that one?
Heck, Barlow Girls': 'Never Alone' is another great one too!
My immortal def has been cry driving to it
It should be on a top 10 heartbreaking rock songs
@@grayshigami6797
Ooooh... Dang nabit!
I didn't think about that... Ehhehehehehe...👏😅
@@MsCaitor
Heck yeah it is!
ABBA’s The Winner Takes It All should be here. Swedes do it best 💔
One of Us too
So many sad songs but ronan never failed to not make me cry.. That's the only song that can make my eyes bawl out along with Swift's safe and sound & tied together with a smile also Tears in heaven considering the background stories of these songs...
Candle in the wind, Think of Laura, Aubrey by Bread, I can't make you love me, bluer than blue, hiding inside myself - were great runner ups imagine by the beatles, linger, immortal, it will rain by bruno, stay were good heart wrenching songs
These should be on the list too.
-Backstreet Boys "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely"
-Elton John "Candle In The Wind/Goodbye England's Rose" 1997
-My Chemical Romance "The Ghost Of You", "The Black Parade" and "Cancer"
-Evanescence "Lithium" and "My Immortal"
-Green Day "When September Ends"
-Sugarland "Stay"
-Miranda Lambert "Over You", "Tin Man" and "Dead Flowers"
Unbreak my heart
Evanescence - My Immortal
A Great Big World, Christina Aguilera - Say Something
Ugh! Hurt by Christina is one of my fav songs to do at karaoke cuz if how painful and strong it is. Such a good song
Great list! But I would have included Goodbye my Lover from James Blunt. It's impossible not to cry.
OMG TRUE I cry every time !!!!
I love Backstreet Boys, "Incomplete", especially AJ McClean. Alex has the most incredible voice and passion.
Unbreak my heart deserves a much higher spot. And why is "I will always love you" only a honorable mention??
Sarah McLachlan - Angel
Karen Young - Nobody's Child
A Great Big World - Say Something
Evanescence - My Immortal
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven
Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares to You
Radiohead - Street Spirit
Enya - Where Are You This Moment?
James Blunt - Goodbye My Lover
Fleetwood Mac - Man of the World
Lewis Capaldi - Some-one You Loved
Janis Ian - At Seventeen
Rod Stewart - The Killing of Georgie
I love sad songs.
songs i think deserved a spot :
“the one that got away” katy perry
“dancing on my own” robyn
“mother mary” rihanna
the one that got away has one of the happiest beat but sad lyrics. if the song wasn't enough, the music video made me shed a tear or two.
@@satwikbardhan3245 i was way too young to be crying to that shit back in 2012 😭 it’s just too strong
As a mother, the most heartbreaking song I've ever heard is "I Still Know You" by Jacob Lee. A sadly beautiful way to morn the loss of a child.
Hm. I think you may need to break this one up by decade... maybe it's simply the age of the production team, but this list seems to indicate that the most powerfully heartbreaking pop songs occurred in the last decade. If we step back even just a little, there's My Immortal by Evanescence, Permanent by David Cook. I'm an 80s kid, so for me, songs like Hello by Lionel Richie, and Who Wants to Live Forever by Queen have much more impact than the songs on this list.
I wondered how they were going to pick 10 songs from 60+ years of songs but then realized it's Heart Breaing pop songs known to Millennials and Gen Z when there's been amazing heart breaking songs long before these times.
Tears in Heaven, and Fire and Rain are two I think should be included in this list.
cant believe Leona Lewis is not in the list.. better in time, footprint in the sand, happy ..all are saddest songss
I think “Total Eclipse of the Heart” should’ve been here
For me HURT
First time I heard song was after my dad death. I felt it in very single of my body. Years later still can't listen it without crying.
Thank you, for choosing Ronan (Taylor’s Version) as the #1 song!
I sang Hurt by Christina Aguilera at my cousin’s funeral 10 years ago🖤
He was only 32 and passed from cancer…. One of my fave Christina tracks🥺
The Heart Wants What It Wants - Selena Gomez: true heartbreak masterpiece
And Loose You to Love Me!
you right, that song is hard
Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran gets me every time.
Here’s how the list should’ve been compiled
#10: Too Much Love Will Kill You by Queen/Brian May
#9: Roads to Moscow by Al Stewart
#8: I Started a Joke by (the) Bee Gees
#7: Words Can Break Your Heart by Don Henley feat. Trisha Yearwood
#6: Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton
#5: I’m So Blue by Michael Jackson
#4: Save Me by Queen
#3: Keep Singing by Rick Astley
#2: Hole in the World by The Eagles
Honorable mentions:
Help Me Through the Night by Joe Walsh
For Real by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Proud of Your Boy by Adams Jacobs
Blue Bayou by Linda Ronstadt
#1: You’ll Be in My Heart (Phil Version) by Phil Collins
Great list. But they're mostly not pop songs
"Listen to your Heart" (1988)
🌋 Roxette
Cry by Kelly Clarkson from her album All I Ever Wanted hits me in the feels every time I hear it.
This isn't a very good list. Especially with all the available candidates. Here is a few. What do you think? Hurt by either 9 inch nails or Johnny Cash. Silent all these years by Tori Amos, My Immortal by Evanescense, Say Something by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera. Also Lazarus by David Bowie, Everybody hurts by REM, Tears in Heaven by Erik Clapton, Last kiss by Pink Floyd, Mad World by Gary Jules. How come, How long by Baby Face and Stevie Wonder.
Not pop, but the sad songs I enjoy are:
-“Over” by Johnnyswim
-“Lonely Lonely” by Feist
-“Heaven” by Beyoncé
-“I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” by Jennifer Hudson
-“I’ll be Missing you” by Diddy, Faith Evans & 112
-“It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” by Boys 2 Men
-And any R&B breakup songs. That can be a Ms Mojo list in itself. lol When I need a good cry, these are my go to’s.
I’ve always loved “Hurt” by Christina Aguilera! That whole album was amazing. Glad it made the list. This was a good list. 👍🏾
Gone too soon by Daughtry made me cry and I don't even want children. It's a really sad song.
"Anyone" always plucks my soul strings. This is the "Most Common Song On The Voice & American Idol" by most contestants. I cry to that song with my mom everytime and we are always say "awgh." Plus, I have to add a song to these top pics and I'm shouting out to "Secret Love Song" by Little Mix and "Drivers' License" by Olivia Rodrigo.
How could anyone exclude the King of Pop’s Childhood? And Elton John’s Candle in the Wind ‘97.
Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. Nuff said
OMGGG Righttt
Haunted (acoustic) by Taylor Swift 💔 (besides Ronan or Forever Winter 😭 and Broken Home by 5sos)
I'm holding my breath
Won't lose you again
Something's made your eyes go cold
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Something's gone terribly wrong
You're all I wanted
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Can't turn back now, I'm haunted
Praying gets me every time. Haven't heard it in a minute so I am off to fix that.
One that used to leave me bawling back in the day was Easier by Kandi. "It gets easier... without you... I won't feel right, I can't feel right without you... but it gets, it gets easier."
Madonna's "You'll see" should be a part of this list!
Falling by Harry Styles is definitely a Heartbreaking song 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 and the music video represents his emotions too
Dionne Warwick - Anyone Who Had A Heart
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing compares To You.
A song that makes me cry frequently is "Good Grief" by Bastille. It sounds very upbeat. But, when one listens to the lyrics the song captures new grief so perfectly.
Of course, I listened to this song a lot for the first few months after my mom died 8n early 2020.
A lot of them have helped me through a hard time in my life
Say something IS the SADDEST song i've ever heard.
My favorite emotional ones are What's Left of Me, by Nick Lachey (about his divorce), Sleepwalker by Adam Lambert, and both Ghosts and Roses, and Never Sorry by Jeremy Renner. With the song Never Sorry, it's about Jeremy's divorce and how he felt that he did everything for his ex when she needed him, but she wasn't there for him, but he refuses to be sorry for anything that happened. His song Ghosts and Roses talks about how he was torn down in the public eye, over his divorce and how he hopes to find love again. It's simple and heartfelt.
The duet kelly did with Reba was beautiful
How did Mary J Blige and "No More Drama" not even get an honourable mention? The raw vocals, the message, everything is the definition of gut wrenching! Nuff said.
