I can't hide I'm surprised by your video! I just googled the plant's name to check what I bought and... wow. In just 5 mins I learned that I can use it above or underwater, it will melt when I pot it so now I will not be alarmed, it will change color if I have it underwater to light green, I know how it will grow and how I can make it "pop" in a setup. What else could we ask? AWESOME video. Really. Good job. Going to check your other videos!

This is a beautiful and easy plant. I use it in all my aquariums. It's the only plant in my aquariums that never has any problems. I'll even have other plants growing algae and this one will be algae free lol.

I had gotten 3 of them from petsmart. Only 1 made it. Did not look nearly as healthy as the one you showed though. For now on I'm going to order plants!

Broooo I’d love to see the submersed form showcased like see it see it the leaves up close and then underwater and then in a cluster of them underwater😍

😮 i bought 2 they are about 4 inches tall. Can you show a video on how tall before trimming and how to properly trim it. Please I wanna let it blanket the bottom by adding the tops you speaking on. If you could I would so appreciate it. Love the video bro. Thanks

I grow a lot of the larger form of lobelia cardinalis and it's overall one of my favorite plants. It's soooo pretty. My only complaint is that it's very "rooty".

Damn I bought it out of the petco submerged plant tank, specifically because of the purple...

Does Lobelia Cardinalis need co2 and good substrate? Or I can have it with low co2 and no fertile ground?

You never mentioned what substrate it will best suit?

Question: Could one use this plant above water in a hydroponic fish tank and below water in the substrate?
It might be interesting to see both variations of the plant.
My son has an EcoQube with mint plant as a “filter.” Your plant may be a good choice too.
    Thanks for the video,
    Jim

James Green in the video he states that it can be used In in aquarium, terrarium, and palladiums. He also says it can be grown above and below water. So yeah you can plant it just about anywhere

I love this plant; easy to propogate. I take a stem when it starts budding turn it sideways and get little shrubs of it everywhere. Has anyone tried growing emersed to see results?

Im growing emersed right now. How exactly do you propagate it though. Im new to the hobby😅

Does anyone know to plant pearl grass ???

  • @xxpowwowbluexx
    @xxpowwowbluexx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Why does it look SOOOO different from how it grows above the water? The leaf shape is entirely different; it looks like a completely different plant. Are you sure this is Lobelia cardinalis?

I've been trying to grow that plant outdoor for years... it is a native damp-area plant, and it usually gets killed by rabbits before I get to enjoy it! Anyhoo, I've been looking at using it in an aquarium, and depending on which supplier's website you look at, it is either SUPER difficult, or EASY! Can anyone confirm which it actually is from experience?

Can I plant it directly in gravel? Or do I need to tie it to something like java fern?

Nick Medina I have a weirdly shaped tree root structure in one corner of my 16 gal tank. I bought a cardinal plant and kinda wedged it between two “branches.” It’s six months old now and doing well. I guess it’s about five inches tall. The neat part is that this specimen is bare root and the roots seem to enjoy wrapping themselves around each other and the lower part of the “trunk,” slowly growing down toward the substrate. It’s doing great. Kind of like a banyan fig or a native strangler fig.
So I got another bunch of tissue culture Cards, four in a connected five inch string. Removed as much of the gel I could and glued it to another branch with superglue reef glue. Used an absorbent cloth to dry the tree root and the cards as much as possible. Now I have the new Cardinal glued where I want it but when I put it back in the tank the cyano glue immediately turned into a white eyesore. How can I remove or cover the unsightly glob of white on the branch?
I have a pretty good pic but for some reason I can’t attach it here.

How do you trim it to get a bushier look do i just snip the leaves off?

I have a question,? You know how in the Pacific Northwest boreal forests there’s 80% of all the nitrogen in the wood of the trees can be traced directly to decomposing salmon carcasses because the bears leave them behind after eating the tender pieces? How much of the nitrogen of the pond plants in my aquariums can be traced onto sunken fish poop and how about snail poop? Also what should the fish/snail ratio be like for an ideal balance?

    L. cardinalis has a hardiness zone of 6-11, it is pretty cold tolerant judging by my research in pond forums.
