Since Osmo does not have an aperture, the shutter speed lock is good only for specific light conditions. For example 1/50 on a sunny day means heavy overexposion (unless strong ND is used), 1/500 in a dark area means heavy underexposion.
Hello. Yes exactly. This is why the ability to set the shutter speed as a range is really good. This way you can limit it on the low end to get good stabilisation. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Sir, can we adjust the shutter speed range in photo mode? I really need that for underwater photography because sometimes, when using auto, the camera chooses a really slow shutter speed, resulting in blurry shots.
Hello. If you have a chance to use an editing software that has noise reduction and sharpening, then it's best to use that. The camera doesn't do it as good as Davinci resolve studio for example and you have the freedom of how much you can play with this in post. Otherwise the camera noise reduction and sharpening is baked into the video file. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Hello. Indoors is always tricky. For good stabilisation you need 1/200s of faster so I would set this as the minimum shutter speed and the set the upper ISO limit to 3200. It really depends on how bright the scene is. Thanks for the comment. Cheers a
I have changed the shutter speed in my Action 5 Pro to 100-8000, set EV to -0.3 and the ISO to 100-1600. I have done this for both 4K60 and 4K30. What sharpness and noise reduction should I pick?
Hello. If you're using Normal colors then I would set them to -1. For D-log M use -2 and ath sharpness in post. I haven't tried the OA5 yet but I can imagin that it is very similar to the OA4. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
So just to confirm, you can leave it in Auto mode and still make these adjustments? The Auto will then just operate on the parameters that you have set? Or do you need to select manual in order to set your parameters? I’ve just bought an Action 5 and I don’t understand the difference between Auto and Manual mode because it lets me adjust the values on both?
Hello. You can set the range of values in auto mode where, in manual, you can set a specific value, and it's locked. Except ISO that can always be set as a range. Cheers!
Hello. Thanks. I would say 1/100-1/8000s and ISO 100-800. In low light ISO 100-3200. I use D-Log M and 10bit HEVC. You need to colorgrade this or just go with Normal colours. Sharpness and denoising set to -1 for Normal colours and -2 for D-Log M. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
You should check because the latest firmware has the natural/standard color now to 10 bit. So if you don't want to do a lot of color grading now you have a good choice.
Please, if the temperature sensor is covered, is there a problem? If we set the temperature in PRO settings, the sensor will not make any color adjustments?
I have a lot to learn before I understand what all those things you said mean. Any videos to explain what an iso is or what whitebalance is or should I just book a photography course, it really is a foreign language, d-log and all that. I fear I'm years away from being any good
Hello. I think that if you don't want to do any post work, then go with normal colours. Use -1 for both sharpening and denoising. The OA4 has a good white balance sensor in front and it does a good job of detecting the scene colour. I hope this helps. Cheers!
Great video! Do you have any advice on shooting in low light nightclub settings at 4K 60FPS with lots of flashing lights without getting too much grain and noise? Right now we have everything on auto - thank you!
I will be going for camping tomorrow on boat. I will need to keep my camera still as well as moving . Could you please advise me on the best settings for my AP4??
Hello. During the day keep the shutter speed in the range of 1/200-1/8000s and ISO 100-800. In low light 1/100-1/8000s and ISO 100-1600. This way you can use the camera in any situation. D-log M 10bit with HEVC if you're going to colorgrade or Normal H.264 8bit for ready to use videos. Merry Christmas.
noob question. For filming in a bright sunny day, with a -0.3EV (cause I like it more "dramatic") and a shutter speed of 1/100-1/8000, in auto mode of course, would it matter if the ISO range is 100-200 or if it's 100-800? In theory it shouldn't for the sunny part right? But the 100-800 would help me if I go through an unexpected shady place, like a tunnel, under trees and so on. My main use for this camera is to record my motorcycle rides so I can't quickly adjust while riding.
Hello. Exactly. The 100-800 ISO gives you more range for those darker places. It also allows the camera to have a higher then 1/100s shutter speed for better stabilisation. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Thanks so much for the advice. I hope these settings will be suitable for daytime walks going from light to dark areas in the forest. I mount my camera to a back pack strap so I need HB switched on and so far I have had problems with jittery weird looking footage. Cheers 😀
Hello. Thanks for the comment. Maybe try setting the shutter speed to 1/200-1/8000s. This will give even better results if the camera is shaking. Cheers!
Great video. Thanks for the super helpful tip. I’m not the best listener but it’ll be even better if you can slow a bit down and also help highlight the exact thing in the video to at you are changing in the settings please. I’m glad I was able to rewatch a couple time to follow what you were showing us. Thanks ☺️
Hello. Go with 1/200-1/8000s shutter speed, ISO100-3200, HEVC video codec, D-log M, 4k 50/60fps and a 4:3 format. This way you get a good image and you have some space for post production work. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
@M1R0_Life_through_a_lens EIS is not necessary on a road bike, especially with ultrawide FOV, when mounted on a helmet (the head itself is good stabilizer). Also the EIS reduces FOV. I understand what you mean, EIS + long shutter speed = "jittery" frames and it looks ugly (I have Osmo 4), but as a biker myslef I prefer natural motion blur (better sense of speed), wider FOV and zero stabilization artifacts. Also, shooting at higher shutter speeds in combination with lower fps (just saying, I know you wrote 60 fps ;)) means having horrible stroboscopic effect, which is IMHO worse solution than not having an EIS ;)
I have also discovered this way of setting the exposure on Action 3/4. However, I still see some shakiness while using 1/100s shutter speed. I would be great if DJI make it possible to select a range between 1/120s and 1/8000s. Or, better yet: they should make it possible to adjust ISO and shutter speeds in 1/3 EV steps.
Hello. Actually the minimum suggested shutter speed from DJI is 1/200s for RockSteady. I find that 1/100s is still OK. Yes the 1/3EV would be nice ;). Thanks for the comment.
Hello. Photos will definitely be better on S24. The OA4 camera is only 12MP. Video on the other hand will be better on the OA4 but it depends on what kind of videos you'll be making. If it's just for social media, then it really doesn't matter 😉. Both will be good enough. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
I have the DJI Action 3 which has similar stabilization and with 1/100 you are fine when walking calmly usually, but when you start running/jumping or bump your feet into something, etc you'd need a bit higher shutterspeed from my experience.
This trick is awesome. To be able to set a range is cool. So, I set mine to 1/100 ~1/8000, and the ISO no higher than 3200 (I'm vlogging at night). My question is the frame rate. I live in New York, and don't want to deal with GyroFlow later. What's the best FPS rate to get the best quality and stabilization (with Rocksteady ON)? Thanks!
Hello. You guys have the NTSC in the US so 24 or 23.97FPS is the one to go. If you want a little smoother video sensation then got wit 30FPS. For the "video game look" use 60FPS. In any case a shutter speed of 1/100s will do just fine. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Hello. Thanks a lot. Yes the NDs are good for a slow moving camera where there's no vibration. Otherwise you can add motion blur in post, if you have a software that can do that. Cheers!
Thanks for this info. I have been having issues with shimmering video in the highlights especially on roof tops for some reason. Maybe a ND will help but will see when they arrive. Anyone else have this issue?
Hello. If the highlights flicker it's because the shutter speed is too low and the stabiliser can't stabilise the video in a good way. The NDs are not going to help. I'm not sure if that was your question... ;) Cheers!
Hello. Well that the point of Auto. But you can limit the min and max shutter speed so that it doesn't fall below 1/100s for instance. If you want to set a fixed shutter speed, then you have to go Manual. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
@MrPSt86 I have used Gyroflow, which is really good. And on its web site it specifically recomends higher shutter speeds. But it only works with specific camera settings like Wide FOV. So , I mostly use the camera's stabilization, which works for every setting. To avoid jerkiness in motion caused by low frame rates and high shutter speeds, I shoot at 60 fps. 24 fps should never be used.
