    Part 2 of my comment: . They went and found these people and small towns and gave them cash money they didn't have yesterday, if they didn't go and find the stuff it would sit there another fifty years until it was worthless. Great show and I don't think Mike is a "douche" he is a great mix of a good business sense and an appreciation for these warm country folk and their back stories. He , like me loves to hear these people stories. Great show.

    You mean Mike actually likes old cars? I can't count the number of times I've watched the TV show and wondered how it was he and Frank could walk right by garages or yards full of classic cars without even glancing at them as they're searching for antique stuff to buy and re-sell. It's always boggled my mind how they can be oblivious to the huge collector car market in the US.

    If someone has something for sale and they only want $50 for an item worth $500- that is their fault for not researching the value. They showed up at the old vet's house unannounced and expect him to come up with prices off the top of his head. It's not right.

    explain how they are supposed to pay for gas, business expenses, etc if they are giving people what their items are worth. they aren't buying this stuff as collectors, they're buying it as pickers with the intention of reselling it for money. if you think they are crooks then quit giving their videos more hits and publicity by coming to youtube to shit all over them.
    giving good pickers a bad name? how can you be a good picker paying top dollar for the shit you buy?

      Back in the day, we didn't have roll-cages. Or seatbelts. There's a '32 ford rottin out in a thicket that one my relatives died driving during some wood-slappin thigh-slappin racin event. As much as I respect him, I'd really rather have that car in good shape. Even 50's era chop-rod, but it's ruined. Even if I didn't own it, someone might be able to make a decent hot rod out of it, but no. He ruined it for the rest of us. For that, I sincerely apologize.

    You know, I'm a collector and understand the importance of certain things you'd like to hang on to, but some of the people (sellers) in American Pickers make no sense. I often want to ask them "hang on to it...why?" If the items is something that is busted, broken down and in obvious need of repair/restoration, then get rid of it. Unless you want to die while owning it, here's my criteria for hanging on to something: (a) you intend to pass it on your children (but the requirement here is they actually have to "want it"); or (b) you intend to have it restored - and I mean in the near future, not some pipe dream of having done when your in your 80's and near death.
    Great memorable yearns to be restored and owned by people who want to preserve history and show it to others to learn about it. It does not serve that purpose just sitting in your barn. Let it go into the world to be restored in shown to others. That's how we preserve our historical culture. And we'd better do it before the liberal-progressive revisionists of history wipe it all out and no one will remember the things we built that built this country.

    • @phogroian1
      @phogroian1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      guyfroml The purpose of hanging on to something is if it makes you happy. Everyone dies while owing things, and after you go, someone else will possess it and it will make them happy. As long as holding it is not a burden or millstone, and the piece, though unrestored, is not moudlering outdoors, why shouldn't they hang onto it?

  • @gowifb
    @gowifb 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really don't see what everyone's issue is with this occupation. I dont believe they are ripping off or scamming people. Its not like they go and tell the person something like 'this is a replica so ill give you 5 bucks' when its a real antique or something. if these people or their relatives want to though all their stuff, clean it, advertise it, and try to go sell retail fine. but they dont. plus the line doesnt stop there. they will sell it to someone who may fix it up,

  • @Stinger198
    @Stinger198 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @takerdust Dude, It's really simple... They buy things from people and sell the things to make a profit. Sometimes they get into hard times and need to find/sell things quick but theres no "massive cash reserves". Its not a big conspiracy like you think. "This show is fake! Blah blah blah They dont make money picking, its all from the show" I mean, They were a bussiness before the show and still are. Its simply a camera crew following a couple of guys around doing their jobs.

  • @buyerofsorts
    @buyerofsorts 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @kwadinka Well you know these guys have people calling them from all over to come and pick through their stuff. These guys are not even that good. They know Motorcycles, Bicycles, gas pumps, a few misc things and of course, rusted gas station signs. They're pretty one dimensional.
    I do this sort of thing for a living too and you have to handle people with kid gloves. A lot of people will treat you like one of the family and you really should appriciate it. I'm afraid Frank does not at times

  • @HunterMann
    @HunterMann 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MojoRepairShop1 Good comments, but WHEN would these guys ever get around to restoring something like a Woody? They are busy, busy making a semi-real reality show and selling advertising to support it. This whole thing was staged, the show has a budget to pay this guy $10,000 for a rusty old jalopy that will cost $35K to restore...not really a bargain. I know of one for sale for $25K, so that would save them $20K...
    so much for "reality".

  • @gowifb
    @gowifb 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    then that person may sell to someone else for a profit and so on. why is everyone so upset just because they make a profit? i bet if you showed any business to these whiners and put a 'plus' sign to indicate what was made they would whine about that to. these guys have to make a profit after overhead, gas, hotels, etc. plus, im sure they dont know the true retail price of every single item, that is why they have to buy cheap to make sure that if its not worthwhat was paid they dont lose alot

  • @ajcrm125
    @ajcrm125 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MojoRepairShop1
    Too realistic. I had older relatives like the ones depicted on this show with tons of stuff. Ya know what happened when they died? It ALL went to the dump. Why? Because nobody in the family wanted to dig through all the junk to find anything potentially of value. So think of it this way.. they can sort through all their stuff and find what they want to sell to these guys and charge them top dollar, or sell it to them at a discount only if these guys dig through the rubble.

    Definintly TLC/Discovery channels need to bring back "car shows"! Who cares two bits about the little peoples, or moms with too many rug rats running around, or all that boring shit? It was junk yard wars, monster garage, and shows like that that made TLC/Discovery channels what they are today, and it's about time they went back to their roots and rewarded us who tuned in in the early days!

      I think you've painted a little rosier picture than the reality. There are mostly good people, yes. But some bad ones, too. Prejudice is still around. Anti-immigration. Which has some merit, unfortunately. Only for self-preservation, though. I believe that countries should be dissolved, with a unified multi-ethnic and equal- economy world.

    You guys are all fools. Do you all think that they only deal with the elderly? They deal with all kinds of ages. It just so happens that a lot of old people have old stuff.
    Remember theres different dealer levels and each one has to make a profit.
    Besides, its not like they bought the swords for only $50.00 or something like that .

Boy did they move the cameras off this in a hurry. Then they show themself's quickly offering 10 dollars for old cans they normally pay 2 bucks for to make it look like they were MORE than fair to this poor old women they more than likely gave her 500 dollars MAYBE for this multi thousand dollar car.

    to all the negative people who think these guys rip people off think again. they are looking(and buying) things that have sat not being used,forgotten,abandoned etc for many many years and then they come along and offer money for it. I am sure the people who sell to them are VERY happy just to give it the potenial for life again instead of just rotting away to nothing plus they get some cash out of it to boot.

  • @scottgalvincomedy
    @scottgalvincomedy 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    how can anyone with a functioning brain honestly believe these guys are crooks? they make an offer on something and it's up to the owner if they want to sell it or not. why should a buyer be at fault when a seller doesn't know what they're selling? or why should they be at fault when all they do is make offers...
    the root of this issue is that the "majority" that believes they are crooks obviously don't understand what it is to make a profit, which is the whole point of going into business.

    @goldroof You should try doing it then. Pay your own blue cross family plan $2500 a month. Try living on the road with motels and gas and eating out. Then buy something, wait 6 months to sell it and make $25 . Wow what a business. It's a joke. They are making $20k an episode and that is enough. You can't make a living doing what they are doing.

    @RcUniverseGuy Watch pawn stars, it's a lot more realistic. I also forgot about them living on the road $400 a day for that. HA HA Ha they would be gone in a week in real life.

    Ive never seen anything worse than this show. Two middle aged men try to rip off old people by stealing decades of their possesions and selling them for ten times the amount
