I always hate how every Mortal Kombat after 9 feels like a complete new game. Normals are completely different. Specials missing or new inputs. Its jarring to get your favorite character, and they feel wrong. I dont have this problem with SF or Tekken. They feel new and fresh yet familiar.
Along with that, I played like 7 characters in MK11 & none of them returned in MK1. Johnny was the only character I had experience with but his gameplan in MK1 is so cheesey that I lost interest in playing him within a few days. I did give a couple of the new characters a chance but regardless I would’ve enjoyed the game a lot more on day 1 if my favorite characters were available to play.
@@Lance.Gardenhire it is a valid argument. For any fighting game if up to 7 characters don't show up in the next game. That's kinda bad, at least one. There is no Tekken, sf, killer instincts or any other game that has continuity that doesn't have at least 1 out of 7 characters return so yeah it is very valid because this gives a sense of continuity and familiarity
I wrote an article on Reddit two years ago, about how there's no way to be a character specialist/loyalist in modern MK, because they keep changing the characters. For example, it's not just wanting to watch Saint, I wanna watch Saint's Ganryu; I wanna watch Lil Majin's King; I wanna watch Anakin's Jack; JDCR's Dragunov; Jeondding's Eddy; EyeMusician's Yoshi; Rangchu's Panda; Qudans' DJ; JimmyJTran's Bryan; FightingGM's Lee; CuddleCore's Alisa; Shadow20z's Claudio; Kaizur's Lucky Chloe; Book's Jin; AK's Shaheen. I can go on but I think you got the hang of it. These guys have been practicing these characters for so long, that they know the ins and outs of their characters. I wanna see which cool tricks only they know how to pull off. That's the beauty of Tekken. Not just legacy, but character legacy in display.
dude but the PC optimisation is quite baf in Tekken 8, I'm running it on a 3060 laptop GPU but it doesn't seem to be looking as good, I mean I don't know whether it's because of me coming from that fast pacing of MK1 or because it's the Tekken 8 being that slow but the matches I look at online is quite fast
@@arjunratnadevmake sure the graphic preset detector didnt stick you on amd settings or other weird stuff your gonna want nvidia like dlss quality and you should be able run everything on high. It’s not an optimization problem just the auto detect on first startup generally works for the majority but is buggy and can screw some people.
Wtf is this host talking out? Tekken is not some obscure game that "the Koreans play". Lol! Tekken has been a staple in the FGC for decades. It had bumps on the road just like all fighting games but not as bad as MK4 and the rest of those 3D MKs. MK just has more casual fans.
Tekken is the same lame crap over and over again mate to tell u the truth namco are the bigggest biters there are with them stealing the drive gauge system from SF6 and then copying elements from 2d fighting games with rage arts and heat bars to be more precise a super gauge bar and it's the same copy and baste bull over and over again with a couple of tweaks here and there and namco label each tekken a brand new game. What crap is that? thats the worst of the worst namco had a 7 year gap similar to capcom to make a new game blimey and tekken 8 is the best they can do seriously? give me a break at least nrs had a 3 year gap to make a new game and it feels more newer then copy and paste tekken flekken shitten. I can go on forever i will debate anyone about the true pathetic state of where tekken has come since the 3rd game. It was the 3rd game that was the greatest in the franchises history and after that tekken became the same ol boring ass lame copy and paste couple of tweaks recycling old mechanics from old games crap that we know today. Seriously namco are gettin away with murder with making the same ol lookin games time and time again. There's a article with the original tekken developer the main man in charge during the 1st gen of tekken from 1 to 3 on retro gamer magazine back from 2012 and he shoots on katsuhiro harada and the state of tekken saying it's a frickin joke. The original man said it him self Yutaka kounoe. Tekken is the worst of the worst to break it down in simple terms no lore, nothing just known for its recycled depth gameplay and mechanics nothing else. The story makes me cringe as hell to the point where i need ear muffs too corny.
@@semaj06 mate u misunderstood my point people are dumb down to the point where they'll accept anything gift wrapped to them especially with the puke lame ass state of where tekken has come since the 3rd game. Same reused models, mechanics recycled hell the whole works is just a copy and paste shit fest. Read the article with the original creator of tekken Yutaka Kounoe. just google yutaka kounoe's name with avoiding the puddle and the article should show up. Once you've read the article then come back and speak to me^^ just to remind the world namco are not the innocent life saviours to the fgc or the casual audience at all they've been gettin away with murder with shitty ass frequent copy and paste same ol lookin games since tekken 4. I'll debate the whole world if i want i'm ready. I'm not sayin all this out of spite or hatred coz i was like the biggest tekken fan ever and use to play it like the gosu koreans practicing tryna be the best on it but until i read that article it changed my views and perception with the true state of tekken that the world doesn't know about or scared to even know about unfortunately it's like a harvey weinstein, jeffrey dahmer or currently a vince mcmahon of fighting games.
It should be noted that T8 also redesigned the character models from scratch. It isn't some lazy game even though it maintains a lot of legacy moves. It builds and rewards people who stick with it, whilst also making an experience that caters to new players better than any other.
exactly i watched alot of tekken experts gave the same impression that they reanimated alot of moves even though they’re legacy moves because of the new engine and etc
They even took the time to reanimate generic DF2 and ws4 for many characters. Tekken 8 has fully embraced giving characters a specific identity. It's so impressive what they have done with Tekken 8!
@@cainhurst17 they have been doing this forever too, for A LOT of things, not just a few moves. For example, the other day I saw a YT short where they were going through all the OG character's idle stances through all the games, and they are 1 to 1 the exact same motion, just gradually more detailed. It is very cool to see.
This was my first tekken…. As a person that loved MK. Tekken hands down blows it out of the water. I hadn’t had so much fun in a fighting game since MKx. The fact that you go online and people aren’t spamming the same combo over and over was really refreshing and I wasn’t angry or bothered when I lost.
Brady makes a great point in MK1's mistakes all hitting them hard at the same time. I cannot fathom why they don't choose to build on interations of movesets and mechanics more instead of shelfing them away with every game. WB aren't telling NRS how to develop their sequel, only that they make one. You'd think the obvious development mindset would be to take what they have and improve it, especially given their release windows. Tekken and street fighter take years between releases, yet they never shelf entire movesets. Look at Tekken's cast for example; Feng's kenpo, kazuya's wavedash options, lee's just frames, law's DSS transitions, Raven's soul stance, Jin's zen stance, Yoshi's NSS etc.... Each and every Tekken game has only chose to further enhance these core character traits and refined them around it. Not only making them more appealing to legacy audiences but also fun to newer players by making them more accessible.
Even SF6, which built everything from the ground up, reuse ideas from older games and refine them. Heck, Drive Impact is basically Focus Attack from SF4, Drive Parry an iteration of parries from SF3, and Drive Reversals being an iteration of V-Reversals from SF5. The only thing that's completely new in SF6 is Drive Rush. Heck, they even reuse some of characters' V-Triggers from SF5 into their base movekits in SF6, example being one of Guile's V-Triggers being a Level 2 install super in SF6.
yes they did, they purposely released a fucking Cash Grab game and charged 100+$ for it, then ask for more. Let that piece of shit game die so they never ever pull shit like this again.
@@KnucklesWTDThink of all the money they will lose. They could have had cash flow for years if they played their cards right. But now game is on the verge of dying.
@@hyperreal the game is still on the charts and people are still buying DLC and Microtransactions, they’re doing just fine. People complain about every MK being “dead” yet the series still marches on
Tekken has always been my favorite fighter outside of street fighter due to its complexity and relatively realistic interpretation of actual martial arts styles. As someone who has trained in different martial arts styles, i can vouch for how many of the techniques they use are actually moved that i used when learning training in the prospective style. I dont know why my fellow americans are just now appreciating what tekken has always been.
MK1 is a spit in the face to it's fan base. There is nothing they can do to make me wanna come back to that game. Tekken 8 has set the bar high it's a masterpiece.
Since Tekken 8 came out, I haven’t touched MK1. I will return when Peacemaker and the season rank resets to get back to God rank then I’m back to Tekken 8.
@@seangotti3 I know he isn’t a robot, I was referring to Robocop’s lack of combo strings & player creativity. I just hope NRS combines Peacemaker’s mastery of weapons with John Cena’s wrestling history to make a fun & interesting character.
11:02 wtf is this guy even saying? Tekken literally the 2nd most influential fg game after sf2, Tekken 3 is the 2nd best selling fighting game, also T3 was the best ps1 fighting game. Tekken 5 was the best ps2 fighting game, Tekken 7 was going strong till the moment Tekken 8 came out. This guy is living under a rock
MK barely had legacy gameplay mechanics as far as character fighting styles go. They tried that during the 3D era in the 2000s but ended up scrapping it due to it being clunky and having jank controls.
yea thats really what does it for me. the net code is so much better and ranked matches are actually fun and theres just SO MUCH MORE @@romariomargera4245
Tekken is not even a part of the fall of MK1. MK1 put itself into the ground. Normally people don't leave if it isn't their kinda fighter. Like Smash players don't care if Tekken comes out. So people are jumping ship with no challenges to that MK play style shows a failure of biblical levels
I mean its true Tekken isn't to blame & lack of content is more to blame. But it's not really dying faster than any other MK game. If you look at steam numbers for MKX & MK11 in first 5 months of their releases the drop off is even worse than for MK1.
I’m 44yrs old..been playing fighting game since the 80s, putting my quarters up on the ole arcade systems (good times) the lil boy ready to play mk. I love all fighting games. But mk does need some love and I hope it can make a comeback. Tekken is really fun and I’m enjoying it with my kids.we play online as well. Not the best like the pros but it’s the fun factor that’s matters 😊
I used to make $5 in quarters last hours. I’d always go on a run until an Asian kid would show up and destroy everybody. I still have some of my old GamePRO and EGM magazines with all the moves from games like Mortal Kombat II, Primal Rage and Killer Instinct.
MK1 numbers haven't changed at all on steam so idk why people acting like Tekken killed it lol if anything NRS / WB is killing their game with lack of content.
@@tracycook3556Tekken has its own fan base with a bunch of new players with the content they added with T8. If anyone is to blame for MK1’s lack of numbers it’s NRS.
@@limitlessgunzz79 Honestly I uninstalled MK1 after playing Tekken 8's closed beta and the demo. I LOVED MK9 and MKX but after that I don't know what happened with MK11 and especially MK1 being the worst most recent MK imo. It's like with MK1 they couldn't decide on making MK or making another Injustice and what we got was this rushed mess of a Mortal Kombat. Like many have said Tekken 8 and even SF6 has buried MK1 T8 was just the nail in the coffin. I'm glad NRS is getting roasted because Mortal Kombat deserves better than this.
bruh says tekken was known as this "boring" game back in the day lmao, the way you choose to perceive the world truly can warp your perspectives regarding reality. brother tekken has been a fun and beloved for the entirety of its existence its only gotten better thats all. its ok for mortal kombat and tekken to both be great it doesnt affect the fact that the game you love is the game you love does it??
Me too. I’ve owned all of Mortal Kombat games in some capacity in my life from the first one back in 92’. MK1 is the first one I’ve had no interest playing or owning. I’ve been heavy on Tekken since Tekken 6 but played all of them in in passing and I really fell in love with Tekken in Tag 2 because that’s the first Tekken game I really enjoyed and not button mash and learned how to play the correct way. I have the Tekken community to thank for that. These days I have a lot of pro friends that I play with and love playing them because I learn so much. Mortal Kombat games these days just don’t hold my attention after the first 3 months of the games release. I love MK but they have to do better.
Tekken 3 is one of the best selling games of all time. Not just fighting games either. Tekken 4 kinda wrapped the bed. Tekken 5? One of the best selling games of all time. Tekken 6 also sold well But then tag2 happened... Also during this time it was a capcom only fgc. No one played anything except SFIV (all of its iterations) and mvc3 and umvc3. This was the era that tekken was pretty dead at the time (honestly all other games were at the time) SF5 dying horribly after launch helped other games finally get a bigger piece of the pie.
The "Tekken is boring" trope did exist in the FGC for years. I remember hearing it all the time from Capcom purists and even some MK dudes back in the day. As you said, it is ridiculous. The game has been fun and commercially popular since the 90's.
What’s funny is the time maybe more recoupable than the money! It took no time learn and adapt to the simple gameplay and small move lists every character has their BNB combo and maybe one more, while T8 and SF6 has tons of strings and chains to link to make up your very own combos for a unique experience.
Just a little correction: Tekken was known as a boring game IN THE US. It's always been really popular in Asia and Europe. When I was a kid nobody played MK, most people didn't know what it was or if they knew they just knew it for the gore. On the other hand, everybody either had a PS1/2 with Tekken or knew somebody who had it.
that feature is like a wet dream for FG players, maybe the best innovation in FGs in the past decade, no bullshit. Other games already had a replay system like that where you can control your character in the replay, but not with literal fucking coaching. It is goddamn genius.
Peacemaker and crossplay delayed too. lol what a shitshow MK1 is. one big factor why every MK game seems to fail, is the fact that ppl understand that a MK game doesnt even last 2 years until the next NRS game comes out and then is outdated somehow. Tekken or SF games last for MANY years. Those games get a CHANCE to build a community around it because they dont only last 18-24 months. Heck the community is called NRS community and not MK community. On top of that, NRS wants to reinvent the wheel on every new game somehow. That makes it even harder to build a community around one game like MK.
Whoever the dude that said Tekken was a boring game, must be new or sucked at the game. Tekken 4 and tag ESPECIALLY were LEGENDARY. They revolutionized 3D fighters and for me...being a fighting game guy forever.....those games got me off MK and SF back in the day. But dope video fellas
I agree with you as a Tekken fan. But when people were playing Marvel 2, that game is insaine and makes many games look boring because it’s so over the top good. And to be fair there was a subset of players that did think Tekken was boring. So it’s fair point. Luckily T8 is just sooooo darn good we can enjoy that.
@@SuperBabyMario0C everyone look at this bozo 🤣. Where is Virtua Fighter and Soul caliber now? That's the point. Tekken has stood the test of time and each game has gotten better and they have become the 3d standard, dummy. Also....do your googles and check when Tekken 4 came out. I'll wait
@@jasonmontoya4749 definitely see what you're saying brother. To me, I liked most fighting games back in the day. Especially being a comic book collector, I loved marvel Vs Capcom and what not. Just to me, especially Tekken 4 and tag....were so different and so much fun. My boys and I would have tournaments and we're hooked on it. I still need to get this current one to check it out
Yeah with Tekken customization 😂 In Tekken you can change eye color in mk1 we are stuck with color palettes that don't even fit the characters. Subzero is blue, Scorpion yellow, stick with that and alter the skin not the colors. A green Scorpion is ridiculous. Yes, in Tekken you can do this as well but they fit better and there is so much more variety. And we don't have to freaking pay for the "premium" skins.
I played all the MK games. From the glory SEGA days of the first MK trilogy, The original playstation era etc.. MK9 was the last good one. Tekken is just in another league at the moment.
I've lived Mk for 30+ years! I totally agree with Tom about living the game. So, I know how frustrating it can be to play what we have now to what we had back then, and it hurts.
To complete what's said around 1:05:00, the problem of people being sponsored by distributors reminds me a lot of the same thing that has been happening with NFL, NBA and mobile games in general. This kind of practice, capitalizing on greedy players and influencers, is being pushed to other game communities and it's frightening.
For me it is simply the gameplay. I liked mkx a lot and Tekken 8 feels like it has the similar feel I’m looking for. Mk1 feels better than mk11 but a less complete game and nowhere near as cool of gameplay as mkx and Tekken 8.
Tom, you make the perfect take and spit straight up facts at the 1:05:00 about WB, NRS, and its Pro scene. Also, as long as Paulo is in charge of meta, NRS will never change b/c I bet Ed goes off of sales and MK sells for sure and that's all WB cares about.
Imagine telling someone in the FGC 8 years ago that the new Street Fighter and Tekken had better online and story modes than the new MK. Insane how things have completely flipped.
Ill never buy a digital NRS game again. Wish I could get my 110 back from those thieves. Ill also never buy day 1 again. I loved MK9, but the name MK has been dragged through the mud title after title. Horrible
Same here. Though I paid 70 and it was still a rip off. It's okay we learned a lesson here. If I even get their next games it will only be once the game is discounted. Congrats nrs, you came out with such a steaming pile that people will no longer pay full price for your games. Pisses me off to no end that in this day when games cost the most they've ever been and we have companies putting out bad incomplete games. Then to try to shove micro transactions down our throat really tops it off.
Generally speaking I don't buy digital games anymore. Only physical copies. At least I can sell them if I don't like them. Could send my Mk1 copy back to Amazon (best decision I made), and SF6 on second hand market just because it was not my thing. 👍 Bought T8 physical as well... But not planning to sell it back any time soon 😅 I just love it!!
If they only build on MK9 and improved every installment MK would be amazing. NRS doesn’t live the OG MK, that is obvious. I hope NRS will have a big change and gets some devs that love MK instead
Excellent pod cast guys. Thanks for the honesty. I stopped playing mk1 about a month after because I felt like it was just to hard to master. Ive been playing mk since mk1 putting quarters on the machine... I just got Tekken 8 and cant wait to play. Its downloading now.
I agree in general that they should've either took MK9 or Xs skeleton and built on it, instead of starting over each game, to spend that time and resources making the game more feature-rich, and in 1s case, finished. That, microtransactions and bad writers really hurt MK. BUT to be totally fair, Tekken JUST came out. And I'm playing it like everyone else, but who knows where T8 or MK1 will be in a year. MK did gangbusters its first month.
Bro I don't even feel like playing SF6 or MK1 smh I hope Capcoms update makes the game more diverse and I hope MK1 gets the much needed improvements the games needs but I just can't go back to those games right now Tekken is too good RN.
Tekken 8 and SF6 for their releases were moving in ways online that MK has not seen for itself since MKX. Maybe the sales are still in Mortal Kombat’s favor but the word on the streets couldn’t be anymore inverse
Sales for MK are likely larger on launch but sf6 and t8 will eventually surpass it I imagine since those games are well received whereas mk1 is going to get little in the way of good word of mouth going forward. People expected the quality of MK11 content and features with upgraded gameplay but recieved minimal SP content, barebones features and though gameplay is more fun than 11, it's not deeply engaging nor is it as good as it should be. MK1 let so many people down that the next game they announce is not guaranteed anywhere near as many sales because its a fool me once situation. They robbed people of their money in this game and that leaves a bitter taste people do not forget or forgive easily.
Fell off what charts? Most played on PS network? There's more platforms than that. PS is the home of MK whereas SF6 has a consistent PC community thats ten times bigger than MK1 because they gave no shits about their PC port of the game. whereas Capcom and Bamco do. SF6 and T8 will more likely outsell MK1 because theyre games that are guaranteed to be supported for at least the next 5 years and are both positively received. WB and NRS support a game for 1-1.5 years with DLC then they abandon it for the next game they're making, and since casual and competitive interest in the game is rapidly declining, sales slow to a halt because no continued interest is being generated in the game, word of mouth is not good and WB/NRS are increasingly more likely to cut off support for the game quicker than MK11.@@KnucklesWTD
Whats concerns me is NRS practiced all these things TEKKEN 8 has *Legacy *Customization *Netcode *Offline content All this was achived with injustice 2 in 2017. Then at the end of 2018 mk11 was announced and released in 2019 thus killing injustice 2. NRS killed what TEKKEN is benefiting from.... with that being said they're no strangers to this development process yet threw it away... Why?
Why is Franco or whatever his name is on here? He hardly talks and every time his name is said to join the conversation he's confused as shit not paying attention
Tom Brady doing the correct work and calling out the company because if you don’t do that as fans then your favorite game will never change and I’ll just be part of the list of millions of games that never got the proper love. I do hope you guys keep the pressure on NRS, because most likely it will one day be fixed even if it’s the next installment of the game during that time TEKKEN 8 is a great place to hang out until the next Mortal Kombat comes out. And that you’ve gave your list of things that need to change, MRS listens, then it will be great times again. GG
Tekken 8 is my first Tekken and i have 38h and didnt went online yet i having a blast learning of get use of Online mode on Arcade Quest and figthing Ghost at point im not even interest in trying the rank mode because you can unlocke any trphy or customization playing offiline too and is amazing and when i go agaisnt NPC i can go a she what should i punished and learn
When you eventually go online, remember to watch your matches in the “replay” Feature. You can make a different choice and see if that would’ve worked. It’s a phenomenal feature and teaches even the most noob had to get around stuff.
I am surprised that a 3D fighter would directly compete so hard against MK. But it all makes sense. I always thought MK was a simplified 2D version of Tekken. Only MK1 completely removed neutral and footsies, everything deals tons of damage off the quickest moves and it became the most dishonest fighter out there. It just is absurd. In Tekken you only deal big damage when you take risks and/or you make a very educated guess. But even then you do not just die. You have to win 3 rounds and many matches are decided by slowly chipping away the opponents health with pokes and white damage. MK1 was 300 hours of torture to me. I came to the conclusion that no amount of cope, whitewashing and downplaying is capable of compensating for the ridiculous amount of frustration I have with this game. The game only makes me sick. And I'd rather deal with literally 5000 knowledge checks in Tekken. I may not reach a high rank but it makes infinitely more fun and I am not bitter after every loss.
Tekken is not broken. You can become god-like with almost any character thru skill but, the nastiest characters tend to require the most skill to use (Tekken is the heir to Virtua Fighter).
Nope. VF is completely different you not round housing someone 5 feet in the air while they do 3 backflips simultaneously with lightning and sparks. No ring outs, side stepping game, making reads as much or neutral and ring outs. Problem is sega sucks with making a new one. I still prefer vf, Tekken 8 is fun but they are different bro
@@SuperBabyMario0C You missed my point. Harada himself said that VF was his inspiration and you can still see it in how he balances his games (the most powerful characters requiring tons of practice and knowledge).
That’s not what you sad bro. No shit you said Tekken is the “heir” to vf as in, it inherited it, implying vf is dead for good, it’s an indefinite hiatus. But if that’s what you meant to say , your second comment is worded more accurate, and conveys your message in a clear manner Vs the other. No wonder I missed the point. Which is odd way to say that, considering you know Hirada respects VF and that did inspire him. He’d never word it like you did lol like taking the inheritance and being the successor to it, when they both exits together and Hirada helping VF in dlc n tbh I’m sure a vf character will pop up in Tekken 8. That’s it tho
@@SuperBabyMario0C The days of VF being the most prestigious 3d fighting game are over. That's what I meant by Tekken being its heir. No Virtua Fighter game has ever gone mainstream. Meanwhile, Tekken is casually bullying MK now.
I have seen the launch of T4 and SF3 back in the day, and after the success of TTT1, the first two Alpha games, and a bunch of iterations of SF2, my own reaction was 'that's it?' Both from a gameplay and aesthetic standpoint such as roster, those games truly stripped off what we loved from the previous games. We may look at something like SF3:3S as a treasure now, but those games drove away the fans back then. Fully agree with Brady here. Trying something new is great, but cutting legacy outright expecting the new thing to fill what was taken away is asking for trouble.
Honestly haven’t “loved” an MK game since MKX. There truly is quality competition for them nowadays because said competition is what I’ve been playing more than MK. Guilty gear and tekken being some of my favorites.
Is there also a way for Nrs to let their games live for much longer? I mean about 7 to 9 years and then you release another game, let it develop and take care of it with patches and add characters jeez
Won't ever happen because that's their profit cycle. WB steers the wheel and they just try to make sure the car has gas ....and it's starting to running low.
Worst part was how we got stuck at mk 11 💀 what a horrible experience lmao shouldven been MK X, hell even Ij2 while I didn’t enjoy playing competitive, was more fun casually than mk 11 trash
I've mained MK all my life. After MK1, I have switched to Tekken. Mk never feels like I am improving with a character. Tekken feels like the sky is the limit for how good I can make a character be with time
NRS is sinking slowly it would have succeeded if the game was complete right now as much as I’m a fan I switched to Tekken 8 cause I can’t find anyone in the Kombat league you wait longer to find a match 😢
1:05:20 most hardest facts Tom has ever said. I remember week one dropping in sonics streams or vids and commenting some of the problems and nothing but people defending the game just regurgitating what sonic or anyone who literally was getting paid to play mk 1 was saying. Now they turned their backs against it but for what did their contract end ? They saw more money oppurtunities somewhere else? The minute I saw netherealm put out all those ads on mk attempting to draw casuals in the I knew ir was cooked lol
Never been interested in any NRS fighting game. I played the last MK with friends once & it wasn’t much fun. Big ups guys this vid was interesting and tells me MK is spiraling bad. big ooph🤦🏻♂️
As someone who played NRS titles exclusively since Injustice 1 demo I hated 11 and fell off MK1 so fast because of the lack of polish. You can definitely tell the difference in love between the games. I probably have over 5k hours between Injustice 1,2, and Mkx, possibly even more. Injustice 1 is what got me hooked a real masterpeice on the superhero 2D fighting game style. Constantly was fighting for rank 1 on the leadeerboards for Injustice 1 where it felt rewarding to discover something new everyday. Now its a drag to boot up this newer title and feel that same exciment. Now im hooked on T8 with a great community behind me to learn this beast. It was fun MK1 but time to throw you in the digital trash for good.
I play both mk n tekken n to be honest I dnt thnk it "buries" mk tekken n mk are two different type of fighting games in the first place one being 2d n one being 3d...also auto combos and supers every round is the most annoying thing..now everyone talks about so much stuff to do in tekken but imma old skool fighting game player I jus need a story mode n online versus all that extra stuff really isn't important to me
The 2-3 year lifespan is the reason they don't build on anything imo. Why would you spend 60-70 dollars for basically an expansion. It works for other fgs because there's actually time to let the games breathe and people don't get fatigue from constant new iterations.
i was at least still looking forward to some of the other dlcs for mk but now peacemaker is delayed to the end of the month which sucks. Tekken 8 has been incredibly fun though which is really nice
1st time ive heard about previous Tekken being "boring", Tekken 4 (the atmosphere of that game is awesome, and many wish the Character episodes in T8 were like that) and TT2 are classics. Superb discussion guys
Same thing. I get that the later games were essentially updates to T5 before T8 finally changed the formula, but even then I never heard of Tekken being boring.
Tekken 8 is so good I’ve played tekken 3 before but never knew combos and only played mk seriously but damn tekken 8 I’ve only been at for like 3 days and learned sick combos fairly quickly. So dope I recommend arcade quest at first for the tutorials and turn on easy combos first to understand how gameplay works… very intuitive. Mk just disappointing at this point
To daves point about misinformation, I think the craziest thing in the community is people who actually think NRS knows what they are doing. When it comes to goals there is clearly some kind of divide between the ones designing the characters and the ones deciding how the combat will work. They will put a character in the game and do the combat cast and say, this character has a powerup where he deals more chip damage and he has all these multihit moves, so his goal is to get in and do a lot of chip. And then the character comes out and he has no mids and you can crouch the rest of the string after blocking the first hit because it doesn’t jail. Like hold on now how is this supposed to work? Did they just change it because they got scared? Then people will argue, “Well can you imagine how annoying he would be if he actually did work tho?” Then why put him in the game? They designed it lol like what are we talking about? Character isn’t allowed to play the game because they designed him bad? Then take him back to the drawing board don’t release him! You understand how stupid that sounds? Who designs a new character with the intention they are gonna be bad? Were gonna add in this guy and we’re gonna make sure he sucks! Don’t even dream about playing this stupid ass design we came up with.
I really can't stress the importance of iterating on previously built mechanics and systems. It's such a simple workaround for effective game-design. Tekken is the most obvious example, but even SF6, which rebuilt everything from the ground up, reuse ideas from older games and refine them.
Didn't Injustice 2 keep legacy? Cuz the characters from Injustice 1 had the same strings. Like batman B2,3 and superman's F2,3. To bad they made Injustice a zoning game
I have Tekken 8, but I STILL PLAY MK1. When MK1 pisses me off I go to practice mode in Tekken 8. However, the notion that MK1 is trash isn't true. This is the greatest period in fighting game history and MK1 is a part of it. I still play it, because I love Mortal Kombat. Thats my game. Can it be better? Yes. Tekken is not 1000x better though. MK1 is an 8, Tekken 8 is a 9. Better luck next time. If you love MK, Tekken 8 WILL NOT persuade you any more than the other Tekken games. Its just a nice treat for Tekken fans. It wasn't rushed. They took their time. MK1 was rushed. We KNOW! And... we don't care. MK1 rocks.
Dude you can customize everything about your characters for free. The online experience is night and day. And also you can find a top players playing on the game and watch the replays and fight against their online AI replicas. And the game is amazing to play offline as well. Tekken is a way better game.
@CrossfitWarrior Yes, agreed. Tekken 8 is more complete. That doesn't mean MK1 is a terrible unplayable game. This isn't WWE 2K20 all over again. It has many qualities. The Real Tom Brady has been going on and on about MK1's short comings for over a month. If you listened to him, you'd think this is a terrible game. That sentiment is only reflected by the FGC. General reception has been positive outside of the FGC. The FGC has been doing this to MK since the dawn of time. MK1 being the worst fighting game game of the year, isn't true. It's 3rd place. Not exactly the end of the world.
@CrossfitWarrior WWE 2K20 review on IGN: 4.3. MK1 review on IGN: 8.0. If you listened to the real mk Tom Brady, you'd THINK MK1 is THAT bad and it isn't. He's just brainwashed by his constituency at the FGC.
Agreed, not to mention they made the iconic characters better with more new moves while in mk we got watered down version of sub0(ppl r poking through iceclone) & scorpion(the worst incomplete boring version ever) then the netcode, if u r from asian region every match is lagging avg 150ping

I'm glad Tom Brady is speaking out about this.. nobody would ever listen to me they just run me out of the community.. thank you tom
Exactly eventually certain things can be perfected and carried over

I dont know why my fellow americans are just now appreciating what tekken has always been.
Just the Jukebox mode alone makes T8 a great product. Fighting games have decades of awesome music and having access to them all in T8 is amazing.

This was the era that tekken was pretty dead at the time (honestly all other games were at the time)
SF5 dying horribly after launch helped other games finally get a bigger piece of the pie.

Can we talk about the tekken 8 replay system? That feature alone destroys mk1
that feature is like a wet dream for FG players, maybe the best innovation in FGs in the past decade, no bullshit. Other games already had a replay system like that where you can control your character in the replay, but not with literal fucking coaching. It is goddamn genius.
T8 is amazing. I don’t have anything negative to say about it which says a lot about a fighting game.
In Tekken you can change eye color in mk1 we are stuck with color palettes that don't even fit the characters.
You’re one of the gods Tom I’ve learned so much from your videos . I’d love to come on the podcast as a hardcore casual to speak for some of us .

Congrats nrs, you came out with such a steaming pile that people will no longer pay full price for your games. Pisses me off to no end that in this day when games cost the most they've ever been and we have companies putting out bad incomplete games. Then to try to shove micro transactions down our throat really tops it off.

Whats concerns me is NRS practiced all these things TEKKEN 8 has
*Legacy
*Customization
*Netcode
*Offline content
All this was achived with injustice 2 in 2017. Then at the end of 2018 mk11 was announced and released in 2019 thus killing injustice 2. NRS killed what TEKKEN is benefiting from.... with that being said they're no strangers to this development process yet threw it away... Why?
They're just not that smart and might be confusing correlation with causation.
That one video of that person getting Shiva Stomp looped is the perfect encapsulation of how NRS treats its own community
33:36 is where the sub-zero parallels start for anyone looking. I didn't know advanced MK could be so strategic
GG
Not all game studios are created equal. Maybe NRS cannot implement certain features because the staff doesn't know how.
@@jasonmontoya4749 That replay feature from tekken 8 is fire ngl!!
The other day, when my friend showed me that you can EVEN CUSTOMIZE your hit effect on Tekken 8, that was the day I wept for MK1.
Thats always been in the tekken series
Damn that's really cool 🤯
The kombat cast talk to us like we all 10 years old ,am like why are they talking to us like we in 4th grade 😢😂
Tom Brady is the fucking man so professional and he makes clear points I love mk but tekken is just way more deep
Lying about needing money to attend a major then taking said money from his fans and running off with it is professional?
That’s it tho
lol tbh bro your second comment is way different sounds much better.
@@SuperBabyMario0C The days of VF being the most prestigious 3d fighting game are over. That's what I meant by Tekken being its heir.
No Virtua Fighter game has ever gone mainstream. Meanwhile, Tekken is casually bullying MK now.
Mk making a feature rich deception in today's Era would save Mk
I have seen the launch of T4 and SF3 back in the day, and after the success of TTT1, the first two Alpha games, and a bunch of iterations of SF2, my own reaction was 'that's it?' Both from a gameplay and aesthetic standpoint such as roster, those games truly stripped off what we loved from the previous games. We may look at something like SF3:3S as a treasure now, but those games drove away the fans back then. Fully agree with Brady here. Trying something new is great, but cutting legacy outright expecting the new thing to fill what was taken away is asking for trouble.
That would be awesome if we had all the characters from MK10 11 and 1 All in one game with new s*** refined like a souped up MK trilogy
Honestly haven’t “loved” an MK game since MKX. There truly is quality competition for them nowadays because said competition is what I’ve been playing more than MK. Guilty gear and tekken being some of my favorites.
#GoChiefs 🤣
Brady = the GOAT
Tekken feels like the sky is the limit for how good I can make a character be with time
MKX was the perfect formula, they made the perfect game with that and didn't have to veer too far off like they did with that boring ass game MK11
Wait crimnson not here ??? I dont blame him if so . Tekken is killing it and i would hate to be the mk guy to come after that . 😂
I was wondering if they were gonna address that fact 😂😂😂
I think Tom addressed it when he said if your still defending MK in the face of all the criticism it’s facing then you’re part of the problem. 😂
Shill needs shill friends
100% if Reo was still on the podcast he defend MK1 till this day!
No Crimson today? Maybe he's sick from too much humble pie? Lol 😅
It works for other fgs because there's actually time to let the games breathe and people don't get fatigue from constant new iterations.
mk1 burried mk1
Meanwhile, NRS extends KL season by one month.
I like how the third guy is like, "i don't really play Tekken but like, its cool... y'all smoke weed?" 😂😊
Wheres this after hour podcast you carry on with, first time ive heard about it, feel left out
Mk should be sold to another dev
Kung Lao is shittier in every game since MK9. In MK1, you don't even recognise the playable Lao.
9 lao or no lao...tired of the bullshit
Hahaha 😂 Mortal Kombat 1 is 🪦⚰️ 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤣🤣 Maybe next time NRS will listen to the Fans! Don’t change or fix something that isn’t broken!
If it ain't a mk9 remaster I'm not buying the next mk
i was at least still looking forward to some of the other dlcs for mk but now peacemaker is delayed to the end of the month which sucks.
So far this is good without crimson 😂
Crimson still holding onto hope for MK11 😂
Crimson is garbage. Brady and M2Dave can do a two man tbh
Sad that there's no Reo
Didn't Injustice 2 keep legacy? Cuz the characters from Injustice 1 had the same strings. Like batman B2,3 and superman's F2,3. To bad they made Injustice a zoning game
Kinda…. I mean Wonder Woman is not the same lol
Hey Tom, What do you like better, Mortal Kombat or Fighting Games?
Mk is not a fighting game, you hear it here folks
huh ? Bro mortal kombat is a fighting game just like SF6 or tekken8
Omg tekken is AMAZING well said
Here for "Chim-Pran-Zees" 😂
Def real takes though💪🏾
A meterless mid command grab character would probably have 850 health base if that 😂
I have Tekken 8, but I STILL PLAY MK1.
It has many
qualities. The Real Tom Brady has been going on and on about MK1's short comings for over a month. If you listened to him, you'd think this is a terrible game. That sentiment is only reflected by the FGC. General reception has been positive outside of the FGC. The FGC has been doing this to MK since the dawn of time. MK1 being the worst fighting game
game of the year, isn't true.
No way you just used IGN reviews as a way to prove A point about how good a game is. You are an outstanding idiot for that one my guy.
Bro speak for yourself!😂😂😂😂
Agreed, not to mention they made the iconic characters better with more new moves while in mk we got watered down version of sub0(ppl r poking through iceclone) & scorpion(the worst incomplete boring version ever) then the netcode, if u r from asian region every match is lagging avg 150ping
