It's very true about being a distance from the speaker to properly judge it - you will hear distortion that will disappear at distance because it's designed to be listened to at a distance where the different speaker sound waves combine to create its true presentation.
One thing I've noticed about the Boombox 3 subwoofer. When pushing it to its limits the coil warms up extremely along with the radiators, similarly to how it would heat up if it still had "lfm". On top of that the coil has blackened slightly and smelled a little overtime. If you want a probably longer lasting speaker, get the 2. The woofers on the 2 have better handling on the power the jbl boombox 2 puts out to them, even in lfm, other than potentially damaging the woofers from overexcursion.
Well, I also have boombox three Wi-Fi and what I have found is when I play the speaker while charging for long time at hundred percent volume the bass decreases a lot and and after sometime the bass feels like it’s lesser than my boom two and boom box one, the only thing is that the sound is bright, but the bass compared is low after sometime and till the time of 80% volume, the base is good, but after that, the base doesn’t increase only the mid range increases, so I have come to the conclusion that if they will come out with boombox four or boombox five, they won’t be able to get that much bass out of it because it’s the highest bass, we can get from a Bluetooth jbl speaker.
I had a forest green JBL Boombox 1 which is literally impossible to find in that color now. It was stolen by the dirty tow truckers last summer when I got towed. Now that I’m finally done mourning it’s loss, it’s time I upgrade. Right in time for Prime day. On sale at $249.99, I’d say the Boombox 2 is a no brainer. Thanks for the informative video
Those rubber feet are a Achilles heal on the BB3. And the BB2 can be had for $299 so for now I’m sticking with the BB2. Also if I need more high’s I will pair it with my charge5 or flip5. The weight difference could be that charging block that they put inside the BB3 along with the extra drivers.
It’s a kinda hard to tell which one is better i have both and a lot of times my boombox 2 has louder bass then the bb3 but bb3 does sound a lot better on the rock, hardrock and metal songs but sometimes the boombox 2 takes the win on the heavy bass songs doesn’t really make sense but yeah 😅
I received mine last week from sweetwater. Guys, dont waste your money on the bb3. Jbl dropped the ball on this one. It is not bassy at all in comparison to the bb2. As a matter of fact, I enjoy the bb2 way better.

bluetooth has to much latency when your dealing with realtime audio mixing and beatmatching etc, nice with that audio jack to mitigate that and use theses as portable alternatives to a bigger sound system

I just purchased the boombox 3. I've never listened to the boombox 2. I'll say this; the 3 has it's own powered subwoofer, which means it doesn't lose bass at higher volumes. In comparison to a speaker that's producing mids & bass, you'll lose bass at higher volumes, due to the fact that they're both relying on the same power supply. It's common sense.
That is not true, the boombox 3 also reduces bass at higher volumes. Edit: And what u say about relying on the same powersuply, the boombox 1, 2 and 3 have only one single powersupply (or battery) So that does not make sense.
@dnh3005 The boombox 1 & 2 don't have their own power supply,where bass is concerned. Their drivers have to produce mids/bass. The BOOMBOX 3 comes equipped with it's own powered subwoofer. This allows it to play deep bass at louder volumes, without dropping off. Know what you're talking about before ridiculing someone else.
The Boombox models are always the most expensive models and have better audio quality, for example the boombox 3 many say that now it has too much power in the mids, but it is nothing more than that we got used to the fact that JBL always lacked high mids since its sound is in V, but now with its 3 audio channels it is a beauty of sound and separation of instruments, on my channel I have a video where I show the test of the channels separately from the boombox 3, proof that nobody has done so far.

Great video! I’m very happy with the quality of my Soundcore Motion Boom and Motion Boom Plus speaker. If Soundcore had a boom box larger than the Motion Boom Plus, I would purchase it before I’d buy any JBL boom box.
I feel like even though the BB3 might have more base, the BB2 as a "fuller" sound. The BB3's base is too kicky and sounds separate from the rest of the frequencies. But some people love the separation of sound between bass/mids/treble.

Thanks for watching! That's a really tough question for ME to answer because I REALLY LOVE the BB3. The sound is cleaner& brighter (which I like) the look is better (in my opinion and not having the charging brick is a plus for me. If I were standing in the store right now looking at and listening to both, I would personally choose the BB3 even though it's not on sale. However if you took the BB2 home, and started using it, you would most likely be completely satisfied.
I just sold my boombox 2 for $200, and I got the boombox 3 on a special sale (50%) for $250. Pretty cheap updrage. Pretty stupid that they added a usb-a port and not a usb-c on the boombox 3.

JBL has always been known as "west coast sound". that sound works for me. big bass and big booty. JBL nails it. one bit of trivia for you JBL lovers. JBL are the initials of James Ballough Lansing. He is the man behind JBL which goes way back to the 1940's. Here is the kicker. Mr Lansing ran into business problems with JBL in 1949. He committed suicide and left the insurance money to the company so it could continue on. and it did. And now YOU know the rest of the story. JBL 4 EVER. you are right about the 3 having better mid range and treble than the 2. but its $$$ for that upgrade. I can get a 2 right now for 240 on ebay from Harman Kardon. thats a smokin deal.
hey, did they balance the mids/vocals with the new Update? Returned my speaker like 1 week before the update came xD thought it was way too unbalanced at 70% volume and above, the mids and highs was waaaay to high. Great video, keep it up! :)
The 2 has 2x subs and 2x tweeters the 3 has 1x sub 2x mids and 2x tweeters. The 2 is 160w the 3 is 180w. The 2 has more bass so if you bass the 2 if you want highs 3 is it worth the price difference fuck no
I brought both compared both with latest firmware, boombox 2 is really good, but that boombox 3 hits harder bass wise, voices more foward and clear. sub bass is about the same in both. Boom box 3 is a little clearer better seperation. I kept boombox 3. Its also nicer looking and no big power block to charge just a simple cable.

What’s the music you have playing at 17:40? Great review. I have both sitting in front of me now. My biggest negative for the BB3 is stability factor. This thing really waddles compared to the BB2. I’m returning it for another BB2 for that reason alone. For a $500 speaker it should be planted to the ground better than this.
The bb3 is probably better than the 2 it has to be, it's important to note that a speaker always needs a good 7 hours minimum of wear in time get the rubber surrounds loosened up to a more natural state the bb2 when I first got it was so heavy on certain notes placement was a pain in the ass, after about 15 hours play time below half volume it sounds so much better it's balanced its self out. What I'm trying to say it don't be fooled by just because it's a new model if the older ones got good reviews anyway and it's on a good deal grab it give it time!
It has a higher wattage output. I never look at decibels because you can have a home system doing 93db and a decent BT speaker do the same and both have different wattage ratings. So yeah, BB3 is louder.

Bought the jbl xtreme and it had the popping sound at max volume. Installed the update and it was just an update to be able to connect to newer speakers coming out. So ended up not being able to connect to the jbl charge 3 that I have. Bummer but I got the jbl boombox 2 because the xtreme blew.
So from just what he said about room filling, these are portable speakers which I would assume for outdoors, cookouts, parties. Not sitting in a room playing a boombox. There are better systems out there cheaper than 500 bucks for a room. Like jbl's sound bars. They project out to bounce off walls in a room to give you that full feel. So this makes these pointless if they suck outside. Just get a jbl partybox, I have 1. It sounds amazing outside.
How you turn boost like you do on JBL boombox 2 ... 2 is much louder with the boost .. but on bb3 it doesn't activate the same ? Is there a new command or?

Thanks for watching. In terms of "loudness" in the form of decibels, to me they're the same. However, the BB3 projects the vocals and mids better making "appear" to be slightly louder.
@@NewStuffTV1 gotcha. I love the BB2, but there's some times when I'm playing at the baseball park it can get a little drowned out. To have a little more volume would be ideal. Most of the speakers that people bring, that are louder, sound like a dogs anus. I love that you can still hear words and treble with the BB2. Thanks again for your reply.

The adaptor for the BB2 was a pain when I opened the box Even more when I saw the adaptor was capable of running a full 100 watt meaning the speaker is full in under an hour However it charges around 45wats .....tfck !?
BB2 is at 200$, BB3 is at 460$ here in our place, the price difference is more than double. 😂 while bb3 has better overall volume/clarity/bass/mids..its battery are the same with bb2, bb3 battery should have been around 12k mah.. yes, bb2 bass/mid/clarity drops past 80% volume. but im glad im used to set my speakers (edifier/altec/jbl charge 5) volume to 70% same with my phone volume always at 70%...to extend the life of speakers even by just a little bit...thats why the massive price down of BB2 since the release of BB3 is a win win situation for me.. P.S. BB3's Oval Subwoofer is at risk of early failure due to it's shape..the sound pressure isnt in equilibrium unlike if its circular shape..believe me upcoming BB versions wont be using that Oval Subwoofer anymore.

The BB2 is $299 right now vs $449 for the BB3. Is the extra $150 worth it or should I go with the BB2.
The 2 has 2x subs and 2x tweeters the 3 has 1x sub 2x mids and 2x tweeters. The 2 is 160w the 3 is 180w. The 2 has more bass so if you bass the 2 if you want highs 3 is it worth the price difference fuck no
Bb3 is unbelievable!
I brought both compared both with latest firmware, boombox 2 is really good, but that boombox 3 hits harder bass wise, voices more foward and clear. sub bass is about the same in both. Boom box 3 is a little clearer better seperation. I kept boombox 3. Its also nicer looking and no big power block to charge just a simple cable.

What’s the music you have playing at 17:40? Great review. I have both sitting in front of me now. My biggest negative for the BB3 is stability factor. This thing really waddles compared to the BB2. I’m returning it for another BB2 for that reason alone. For a $500 speaker it should be planted to the ground better than this.

The bb3 is probably better than the 2 it has to be, it's important to note that a speaker always needs a good 7 hours minimum of wear in time get the rubber surrounds loosened up to a more natural state the bb2 when I first got it was so heavy on certain notes placement was a pain in the ass, after about 15 hours play time below half volume it sounds so much better it's balanced its self out. What I'm trying to say it don't be fooled by just because it's a new model if the older ones got good reviews anyway and it's on a good deal grab it give it time!

It has a higher wattage output. I never look at decibels because you can have a home system doing 93db and a decent BT speaker do the same and both have different wattage ratings. So yeah, BB3 is louder.

BB2 and BB3 are good speaker. They can use as dumb bell to train your arm muscle. As BB2 weighs 5.9 kilogram and BB3 weighs 6.9 kilogram😅

Bought the jbl xtreme and it had the popping sound at max volume. Installed the update and it was just an update to be able to connect to newer speakers coming out. So ended up not being able to connect to the jbl charge 3 that I have. Bummer but I got the jbl boombox 2 because the xtreme blew.

So from just what he said about room filling, these are portable speakers which I would assume for outdoors, cookouts, parties. Not sitting in a room playing a boombox. There are better systems out there cheaper than 500 bucks for a room. Like jbl's sound bars. They project out to bounce off walls in a room to give you that full feel. So this makes these pointless if they suck outside. Just get a jbl partybox, I have 1. It sounds amazing outside.

How you turn boost like you do on JBL boombox 2 ... 2 is much louder with the boost .. but on bb3 it doesn't activate the same ? Is there a new command or?

Thanks for watching. In terms of "loudness" in the form of decibels, to me they're the same. However, the BB3 projects the vocals and mids better making "appear" to be slightly louder.
@@NewStuffTV1 gotcha. I love the BB2, but there's some times when I'm playing at the baseball park it can get a little drowned out. To have a little more volume would be ideal. Most of the speakers that people bring, that are louder, sound like a dogs anus. I love that you can still hear words and treble with the BB2. Thanks again for your reply.
If you want loud, but still really clead... Try out the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus. It just won't have as much bass as the BB3 at high volume.
@@NewStuffTV1 I'll check it out but I definitely love the clarity of the JBL's. I use it at home too where is way overpowered. Plus I connect it to my other JBL Xtreme so I can play the same music inside and outside when we have parties.
Bought my BB3 last month and sold it to my cousin...my BB2 smokes the BB3 in the bass department and volume...

BB2 is at 200$, BB3 is at 460$ here in our place, the price difference is more than double. 😂
while bb3 has better overall volume/clarity/bass/mids..its battery are the same with bb2, bb3 battery should have been around 12k mah..
yes, bb2 bass/mid/clarity drops past 80% volume.
but im glad im used to set my speakers (edifier/altec/jbl charge 5) volume to 70% same with my phone volume always at 70%...to extend the life of speakers even by just a little bit...thats why the massive price down of BB2 since the release of BB3 is a win win situation for me..
P.S.
BB3's Oval Subwoofer is at risk of early failure due to it's shape..the sound pressure isnt in equilibrium unlike if its circular shape..believe me upcoming BB versions wont be using that Oval Subwoofer anymore.
