I was his bassist in 1978 and ‘79. He is an amazing singer that never resorted to any fake tuning or electronics. He refused to let the sound men use compressor/limiters on his voice. A true natural talent and entertainer as well as just a nice guy. Always treated us like family. He always gave 100% on every performance! I liked your comparison to Otis Redding regarding soul and real.

Tom Jones was my mom's favorite singer. I remember when he came on tv in the 60's my mom would sit with her face 8 inches from the tv. I took her to one of his concerts when she was in her 50's and she screamed like a teenager. LOL

As a birthday present, I took my 12-year-old sister to a Tom Jones concert. We sat way in the back because that's all the ticket price I could afford. All of a sudden, my sister jumped up from her seat, ran all the way to the front, rushed the stage and kissed Tom! What a riot and a favorite memory from my teen years.

Just so you know, before he was on television, everyone thought on the radio that he was black because of such soul in his voice. That’s one of the things I remember so when he came out on television, everybody was shocked.
I saw Tom several times in concert and will never forget the time he literally froze with a look of terror on his face! Reason? A fan threw her bra on the stage and it was HUGE!!! And Tom is a small built man - bra was almost big enough to be a jacket for him!! He is a great performer and always left the stage soaked in sweat. Thanks!!!
