Is a 3-Band EQ necessary? Mastersounds Radius 4 Rotary DJ Mixer | Soulful, Lounge, House Session

  • This mixer is smooth as butter. The blends and transitions are in a way that you don't see them coming if the right track and key are selected. The producers takes a lot of time mastering their tracks and this mixer is the right one to let the music flows, no effects, no crazy and unnecessary filters, just the music and good ears. It is possible to use just the volume knobs to blend the tracks and due to the analog, the tracks hug each other, no overwhelming. Indescribable sensation.
    The headphone output is cristal clear and warm that sometimes I turn off the speakers and use my hifi headphones to mix or just to enjoy good music.
    Anyway, no more talking and enjoy this session the same I did.

    Radius 2 owner here. Very nicely done Opa Music! You are absolutely nailing the use of the HPFs -- Radius inspires us to focus on track curation // mix points. Energy & vibe carry naturally between between blends. You are a talented DJ my friend. Keep up all the content, dig every video.

    I see what your trying to show here, and it’s a great demo (and wonderful selection), but I think you might be missing a trick here? Often, the beauty of these analogue mixers is in the summing - especially of the low end. What your demoing is a style of mixing (bass swapping) that IMHO doesn’t show the best characteristics of the mixer - the summing. On a UREI1620 (or similar) for example, you’re forced to blend tracks with the full frequency range, and for me, when both channels are open and 2 beautiful tracks are synched, this is where the magic really happens.

    • @pleasethink4789

      One can definitely respect the magic of summing and the excitement it brings on.

    • @alanmodimages
      @alanmodimages ปีที่แล้ว

      Great point. In the old days, we didn't have eq. Everyone didn't have a Urei or a Bozak either, so you had to mix the full spectrum. Those mixers (and some current ones like the new Bozaks and the Alpha mixers...) are so well regarded because they can knit tunes together with no eq's. The whole song magically appears at once with no bass swapping needed.

    Wonderful mix! When I hear some folks say they prefer the Radius 2/4 over the 2V/4V because of that high pass filter, I never quite understood why, until this video. Soooo smooth! With that master EQ, I now see there really is no need for those channels EQs. Your blends are butter. The sound, especially the summing is awesome. Thanks for posting and looking forward to the next one. 😊 Also, great camera angle.

      Lol....utter nonsense.....if you play records,they vary a lot, especially if you mix a lot of oldskool and different genres.
      The difference between the radius and radius V is un- audiable! For mixing you deffinatly need Eqs and to say you don't is utter crap! Been mixing well over 2 decade and it's pompous house DJs that push this fact..
      For a start having a £1300 mixer and using thin Cheap cables is a sin and it strangles this mixers sound big time...
      It's also a low grade TH-cam video so how can you tell the sound of the mixer???? You just can't lol....

    Great mixer. I learned to mix with no eq or filter. But the flexibility of 4 band eq and diff types of filters makes it boring mixing without it but it def is not needed

    • @alanmodimages
      @alanmodimages ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would agree. I learned to spin in 1987. We didn't have EQ's on mixers back then. At the height of House. In a party, the way House was made, you simply didn't have time for EQ's and long blends. This "Trance" style came later. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the tune selection, but House had more energy back then. A mixer, two tables, a crossfader and no eq's. DJ's are a bit spoiled these days with their debates over 3 or 4 band eq or two filters. Watch Louie Vega or Bad Boy Bill spin. They will take them to school :)

    Great mixer! However, for it to only have HFP per channel it is to assume that DJ mixes the same way. So it limits performance creativity to a certain extent. It could have had both HFP & LFP instead of just HFP.

Try bringing in the track adjusting the gain to balance the master output levels.

In reality, the work on the frequencies not only serves to enhance or compensate for them but also, especially for the low frequencies, to avoid their peak during the opening of the incoming channel.
