Hillsboro inlet to South Bimini when I was 15 in the 70s. 17ft Rinker with only a compass. No GPS or radio , just ignorance and youth. What a different world it is today. So many stories i can't even believe them myself yet i lived lt. All turned out well for me. Thank God
Just look over the boat before accepting it from the dealer. It is easier to get anything fixed if u catch it before accepting it. Open every hatch run all pumps during your test drive for at least an hour. Check for leaks. It’s an awesome bay boat
On the way over we burned 30 gals. We were super heavy and going against the Gulf Stream . Average 1.9 to 2 gal per mile. On the way back we average 2.8/2.6 miles per gallon
Very cool. This is my dream as well, to take my own boat to the Bahamas. Any good resources you recommend for planning a trip and knowing where to go??
The week after we were their their it all changed. No more health visa no more out bound checking out. The new information can be found at biggameclubbimini.com/marina/customs-immigration/ also now you can do everything online with the online crusing permit at www.besw.gov.bs/TFBSEW click2clear
Nice trip over. Glad you had good weather. Might of been a bit sloppy in that boat had the wind picked up. We were supposed to go over this summer but had to cancel because of things going on. We were going solo too however I'd rather cross with a buddy boat. Did you just use your GPS to get over there? And you left from Ft Lauderdale. What did they charge to park there while you were gone I just gave a sub to you. Going to follow you on the rest of your trip. Looking foward to your videos and learning enough to hopefully go over next year. Tight lines .......
Sorry to hear that you were not able to cross. It It definitely would be sloppy if the wind pick up, that was my biggest worry. The parking was $20 a day Fort Lauderdale (harbor town marina). we used our gps on the boat and also had a back up hand held gps. Thank you for subscribing
I would definitely buy the 246 again. This boat is like a Swiss Army knife. You can do everything you would everything you would want to do on a bay boat. The 266 is a nice boat to but it’s built more the offshore aspect.
In my experience, "solo" means one person, or "short handed". You had a crew person so it would seem you are not "solo"! I do admire your courage in a smaller open bow boat. Great that you had smooth seas!
Thanks, Solo in this case meant 1 boat, Their are videos on youtube that say solo as you have described it, but they have multiple boats going with them and their are videos with offshore boats with a higher freeboard that go with just 1 boat and 1 person.
@@GULF2BAY Thanks for the quick reply. I pick up my caymen 266 next week and your review video was a great help in me deciding on that boat. I really appreciate the videos.
Looks like y’all had a blast. Nice to see boats other than 40’ make the trip.

Man that’s pretty cool, I bet that was one heck of a adventure.
You are a great advertisement for the 246!!!! I love mine. Has to be the best bayboat in that size and price range out there....
I definitely think so
Definitely has me interested! I live in Tampa Bay so looking for something that drafts shallow but can run to bimini!
As far as I know, there isn't a 24' bayboat out there with a 9' beam. Solid stable and shallow draft.
Great video! Wife and I have that on our bucket list!
Thanks, We had so much fun we are doing it again this summer but we are taking the kids
Great job! I've made that run a few times in a Sea Ray Laguna 18.
Thanks
You one of the only guys that I see making videos about this boat I'm thinking about the 2023 version anything that I should be concerned about

Dude!! My buddy Sean and I were just talking about making this trip out of West Palm Beach over to Freeport to fish for a few days.
We are going again this June. U guys are more then welcome to cross with us
Headed over in 2 weeks with the Robalo group for the annual Bimini bash. Just curious how much gas do you think you burned on the way over.
On the way over we burned 30 gals. We were super heavy and going against the Gulf Stream . Average 1.9 to 2 gal per mile. On the way back we average 2.8/2.6 miles per gallon
awesome video!
Sweet. We are heading over on Friday. Hoping for favorable seas. Anybody know what the gas situation is? Price?
They ended up getting gas in Bimini on Thursday night when we arrived June 16. I think it was around $7.50 a gallon
Cool video!
Thanks, the other episodes show more of Bimini and some cool sand bars in the keys
@@GULF2BAY I have a place in Bimini, trying to convince the wife to let me get a boat 😁

I’m going to do a video after the series that talks about how I planned it
@@GULF2BAY Nice. Can’t wait. I’ve been to the Bahamas a couple times by plane but never by boat. The water over there is unbelievable.
Another great video. How did your mount for the trolling motor handle the trip?
Did awesome
Encouraging to see this on a single 300! I have a single 300 outboard and I’m not that confident
What was the process of checking in at customs Covid passport ?? Passports?? What do we need

90 gal

We are heading to Bahamas from the lower key 2nd week of August.. nice video. How do you like the Robalo?
That’s awesome, I think It has the best layout in my opinion. Especially for the family. It can also get in some shallow water
