Great work! You should continue playing around with hamons. I think it really brings some life into mono steel knives. Also, It‘s funny one can tell your woodworking background with your flush and roundover router use, I‘m surprised I never see anyone else do that🤔
Thank you Njord! Im definitely looking forward to doing some hamon knives and the funny thing about the router bit is i didnt think of it myself. I saw Diesineveryfilm do it and i was like duh...why didnt i think of that. lol
Cool knife great job. Love the router hack and the pin hack is really slick. Did you have any issues not mentioned with the nail ridges towards the head?
Thank you Phillip! The ridges dont seem to be a problem and actually they seem to be just wide enough to allow the nail to be snug without making it too hard to push them through. I was so confused by you question for a second lol. but i just woke up.
Excellent tips. I’ve been a woodworker for 40+ years and the use of the profile bit never occurred to me. And the cocobolo looks great. I believe that is one of the woods that doesn’t need to be stabilized. Did you apply a finish before the buffing?
Thank you Bruce! You have to be super careful when taking the router to it. i have somewhat moved away from that because your hands are so close. and yes i forgot to mention using boiled linseed oil prior to buffing.
Wont the hamon line be more visible or aesthetic? if, during quenching you dip the blade like an inch or quarter of an inch only, like where the hamon line in samurai swords are. Or are there more important purpose to how you do it the way you do it
Yes there are way better ways to bring the hamon out. I didnt have a great angle on the knife to make it go all the way down the blade. but i was really just experimenting more than intentionally creating a hamon. Thanks for watching!
Great learning vid and beautiful craftsmanship. Thank you much...
Thank you Robert!
What would you like to see me make next? I have a tanto and a bowie build in the works!
Thank you for the tip with the nails and the right angle at the handle

Great build! I'm loving that router table usage on the handles! That's pretty cool, wish I had room for that in the shop!
