  • Grand Seiko is known for its textured dials. Problems arise when 1: the dial looks good in only certain angles and 2: the brand itself is not very well known.
    Thanks to @paradisetimepieces (IG) for the quick and easy transaction.

    “I don’t care what other people think about my watch” But also “I bought the Rolex so people would recognize my watch” 🤷🏻‍♂️🤭

    Im gonna very respectfully disagree and say it was a very very bad trade .
    Possibly one of the worst downgrades I’ve ever seen . You lost your spring drive , waterproofing, the hand finishing , the zaratsu polishing, the uniqueness of the green accent but overall the beauty of an understatement piece .
    I’ve had both models you mention on this video which is surprising because both are odd .the werid airking with index and Romans and ofc that gorgeous GS. In a nutshell the GS is leagues ahead in terms of finishing, functionality and beauty . But oh well what we float your boat 🤷🏻‍♂️ you know no judgement . Maybe you want to tell people hey look this is an expensive ROLEX

      I dont understand how the "issue" of the gs being that the dial only looks extravagant in good lighting Conditions was solved by swapping for one with a dial that never looks too stunning🤔. Air king is still cool tho and that gs looked a little too big on the wrist to be fair.

    That Rolex looks like an absolute turd compared to the GS.

    Damn dude.. are you buying watches for yourself? or for other people? You are wearing the watch, you have to appreciate it, not some random person on the street. Besides that, any "watch enthusiast" will absolutely appreciate a Grand Seiko.

      I think its Sad when someone chooses Watches based on brand recognition. It tells me the person cares so much what others think, it screams attention and to me seems very weak minded. Yes Rolex is a beautiful watch but your cant be GS with the quality and price point.. unless you A. Prefer completely Automatic, or B. Brand name because you suck up to peoples opinons.
      I might be rude but its also true.

    Basically you want people to notice your expensive purchase more?..... More power to you I guess... Where I live it's actually better to have an expensive watch people don't think is expensive cause people see Rolex and want to rob you 😭

    Did the Grand Seiko get any time on the bracelet? All of your videos had it on the strap. Because one thing I'm sure you'll notice is that most GS are sold on bracelets, as are Rolex. And the Grand Seiko stainless steel bracelet is one of the more comfortable ones and needs to be experienced. I learned this difference by swapping out the bracelet for some straps for awhile. The straps made interesting choices for me, but they were never superior to the bracelet. And then I put them back on their original bracelets and they felt really good!
    Another important point, I think, is that Grand Seiko stainless steel bracelets are just as comfortable as Rolex Oystersteel bracelets; They both have the nice polished inside of clasp and the rounded edges on the bracelet links. Unfortunately the people making a lot of noise about Grand Seiko bracelets are probably emphasizing lesser important things and not appreciating how good it really is.

    I am in Alberta and am wondering where you purchased the Grand Seiko and Rolex? I know there are shops in Calgary and Edmonton, and some shops that sell pre owned.
    Thanks from someone interested in both. The Grand seikos are beautiful.

      I purchase most of my watches online. I haven't purchased a watch from a store since 2019.

    What did I just watch? I have an extensive collection that includes a Kermit sub and Pepsi gmt, and I also have the same GS SBGA427 you got rid of. Guess which watch I enjoying wearing the most? Yup...

  • @gmshadowtraders
    @gmshadowtraders ปีที่แล้ว +11

    With all due respect, that's hardly a textured dial. It's really a subtle linen effect. The snowflake and it's offshoots are the textured ones. Please do more research next time.

    • @AChannelAboutWatches
      @AChannelAboutWatches  ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps a better example of a textured dial that doesn't look good in most lighting conditions would be the SRPC97J1 that I reviewed in November 2020. That was another watch that took a long time to film because I has to get it at just the right angle to see the "snowflake" pattern on the dial. I ultimately sold that watch for the same reason I sold this Grand Seiko.

      When I first tried it on at an AD the associate called it a great model to get both a strap and bracelet with a textured dial. Subtle tho.

    I own two Rolexes and zero GS, but having seen and worn several GS, I have to say GS looks way more appealing than most Rolexes. At the moment I’m just waiting for the right GS to purchase.
    And I’m sorry to tell ya that air king looks awful, but I understand your mentality. After all, recognition is more important than taste, right?

    • @uclapu
      @uclapu ปีที่แล้ว +4

      On top of that the air king isnt really a huge flex wrt Rolex. The whole point of GS flex is that only other collectors notice. True my Rolexs get noticed by more, but it feels basic compared to when someone recognizes GS.

    You do you but a spring drive for a rolex that needs to be serviced is kind of a bad deal from my point of view. Hope you get it sorted out. I love vintage air kings but I will probably never buy one.

    If you own a bunch of luxury Swiss then add a GS. It’s a nice office watch and I like it more than Tudor and Breitling

    Is this clickbait? I can't tell anymore. If you did go through with it, good on you, but I can't make sense of this trade 😅

  • @viceroygunrey4037
    @viceroygunrey4037 ปีที่แล้ว

    Makes sense! Those Air-Kings are really underrated when it comes to somewhat-older Rolex watches. I'd have a hard time between the dial layout on yours and a Buckley dial. Don't think I've seen something take off one of those old stickers and that's probably why lol.

  • @Anthony-pr1cy
    @Anthony-pr1cy ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Im gonna be honest. The people that recognize a GS are the people you want to talk to. Your two examples are kinda poor. Your sister and then a coworker who didn't say she was into watched but her dad was. Who video just seemed like you were really just upset that no one cared about you $5k watch.
    Every time I see a Rolex I assume it's fake unless my Neuro or surgeon is the one wearing it. I'll notice my friends watches but hardly ever strangers on the street walking by. A Daytona is easy to spot but other then that a Rolex is just a watch.
    Maybe you just aren't sharing your thoughts correctly but if you really just traded a GS for a air king because no one noticed your watch, it wasn't worth it. From afar this watch could be a Casio MTP. If you want flashy get flashy.
    dude... and its damaged with issues.....

  • @WatchWeeb
    @WatchWeeb ปีที่แล้ว

    Eh my motto is you buy what you like. The air king 14000 is still very underrated and on top of that you can get different dial configs to change up the look any time! I love my GS too but most the time their sunburst dials are more appealing to me

    Dude…you’re going to regret that one day and come to see that impressing people with a brand is an empty journey. I realize you didn’t like it in the end, but how much of that was because you weren’t getting the recognition of wearing a luxury watch? I think you fell into a self-imposed mental trap and made a bad trade in the process (I mean that in the most respectful way).

    • @AChannelAboutWatches
      @AChannelAboutWatches  วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's almost been 2 years and I still don't regret selling the Grand Seiko. I sold the Rolex as well; my watch collection and tastes is ever-changing and I enjoy trying new watches to see what I like.

    i know this is an old video but you ppl in the comments are being way to hard on him. he says he doesn’t like the way the GS looks so he isn’t just switching to Rolex for the approval of others. he’s clearly not seeking the approval of watch enthusiasts who thinks rolex is too mainstream. he also states that it’s not about brand recognition but when you paid a luxury watch price but it doesn’t include the value of brand recognition it feels a bit disheartening, he clearly buys other watches just for his own enjoyment, but at much lower price points. stop being so mean lmao

    I would love to own a GS, but man I can't stand all these GS fans always bashing on Rolex. You will aways find one in a comment section of any video on GS. It pretty much turned me away from the brand. I wish people will just allow someone to enjoy their watches without condemnation. Everyone has different reason why they buy a watch over others.

      I understand what ur saying but I think the GS community is also tired being shit on by Rolex fans..
      No one with a brain would deny that for the price point GS is a deal. Its quality is top notch and even surpasses some Rolexs. Yet you have snobs crying that its not a luxury watch. Or they complain about spring movment not being fully Mechanical which I understand but some dont even give credit where credit is do. So I understand what ur saying but also understand sekio fans have been pushed aside into a corner and the Watches have had less recognition then what they deserve. Snobs turn a blind eye to quality and craftmanship and sekio fans rage
