When I worked on main fleet I too had less engine crew in engine room.
Now I work on offshore project vessels and have at least double crew. 2 1st engineer, 2 2nd engineer, 4 motorman and 2 ETO and sometimes more.
Work is more stress full but bigger crew is better.

Chief, you are one of my favorite guys to watch. You seem like a genuinely great guy to work for and your knowledge is impressive. I would imagine that the crew under your supervision becomes much better at their jobs during their contracts. If you are as even tempered and patient as your videos depict, you are a true asset to all that serve with you. Having worked as a welder and pipe fitter for over 20 now, I see many people come and go in the trades. Those who really want to learn, absorb it all and have the sense to ask questions to fully understand the tasks presented to them and are definitely worth the patience and effort to teach. The area of the USA that I live in is not a Union area and the opportunity for training is usually cast upon the “old guys” like myself. I’ve learned over the years that patience is key to training young folks to excel in whatever trade that they are learning. Also , being able to convey the information to an understandable level is an ability that one must have as well. You seem to have been gifted with both. Much love to you and the crew and prayers for you all a safe voyage. Looking forward to the next video.

Hello shipmate. Watching your videos not only made me aware of what my youngest brother is going through but also give me tips on how I can help him. He is one of the 200,000 seafarers who is stuck on board his ship right now with no light on when he’s going home. All I can do is support him via emails and just encourage him to keep on charging. I thank you for what you do and are doing to help our shipmates. God bless 👍🙏

I really enjoy watching your videos Chief MAKOi. My uncle is a captain in a cargo vessel that does Singapore-Perth, Australia runs and we used pick him up from the port to show him around. Unfortunately due to very strict Covid restrictions in Australia, they are no longer allowed to get off the vessel. I hope restrictions will ease a bit before he finishes his contract. Keep up the good work and continue inspire future seafarers not only from our country but all over the world!

All these contribute towards an interesting, informative and entertaining video. Thank you for your efforts and time invested in this enterprise.

Hello there my friend ! Another awesome video ! While i was watching the people working in the engine room brought back memories from my days at the Navy ...our Ship was made in 1935 in U.S.A , took place in the Philadelphia experiment and after it was decommissioned for them ...my country took it ...LOL . It's purpose was very specific , the rear part had a huge door , we opened that door , it would fill up tanks with water so it would partially submerge and then take in from small submarines , Landing crafts , and at the level above we could have battle tanks and troops , even a helicopter .
Now to the juicy stuff ...LOL , from what i heard it needed very little amount of crued oil to operate because ...it was using STEAM engines ...LOL :) how cool is that ? Maximum speed ( downhill perhaps ) 12 knots but as long as i was on it it went like 9 knots .
Normally i was a deck specified cadet but occasionally i went down to the engine to hang out with friends , chat , stuff like that , so i had to go through double secure doors , i had to open and close the first door , before i could open the second door , otherwise the pressure difference would cause explosion ...so yeah i had to be extra careful with that !

Great to see a "hands on" Chief, when I was engineer on a P&O liner the second Engineer was the working boss, he would come down the engine room at 7 am and start shouting at us all, the Chief was usually up in the first class entertaining the Ladies, never saw him in the engine room.

Very good video! Thank you for posting it! I understand it is just a figure of speech when you say at 12:04 that the ship's main purpose is to deliver the cargo to its destination. Actually the cargo must be delivered to the authorised consignee/revceiver. And the ship/carrier will incur very serious and unlimited liability for delivery of the cargo to someone who is not authorised to take delivery by the contract of carriage. In most such cases the ship's liability insurer will also be entitled to deny insurance cover. and protection.
