Only 1,500 injuries reported while Lime alone just recorded its 100 millionth ride 2 weeks ago. With Byrd and Spin that means there have been at LEAST 150 million total rides so far. That's one injury in every 100,000 rides. This story is a perfect example of scare tactic reporting without divulging the full data spread.
It's not because people are lazy. If someone rides it home then what are they suppose to do with it? It gets left on the sidewalk. They should only be allowed in parks or places like that not all over the neighborhoods blocking the sidewalks so nobody can ride their own bikes & scooters.
The amount of injuries versus how many people ride these scooters is so insignificant compared to how many people drive an automobile and get in an accident or die these companies aren’t doing anything wrong it’s the riders who need to be responsible
This is dvmb... Even if a scooter only last for a year, manufacturing ten or even twenty scooters still uses less raw materials than a car. Plus it's more efficient since you don't need to burn lots of fuel to carry a huge metal just to transport one person.
Safety bugs/throttle: of several timeshare scooter brands I recently tried in Boulder, throttles all accelerated while walking alongside; throttle should be limited, if not disabled, when no rider on board. Also, with handlebars turned, they all accelerated strongly from stop. I'd limit acceleration rate when handlebars turned. Without federal regulation, we at least need an industry association to set minimum safety standards/design gudelines/best practices. Current equipment seems not ready for public consumption. AFAIK, only one company designs their own scooters; the others buy off-the-shelf scooters like Segway, Xiaomi, Razor.
I rode an electric scooter for 2 months 6 days a week for more than 10 miles a day with a helmet and never even fell off... When it was banned here in London it made my travel way more expensive.
Usually you travel same routes, so you learn of any potholes, areas with worse terrain and you get better at avoiding such obstacles. They are very practical, require less effort and you feel less exhausted at the end of the day. You can save your energy for other tasks. If you are forced to walk twice a day or more on same routes, it becomes tedious. Also carrying weight while walking, for like 20min, takes energy. On a scooter with a backpack, you cut that time in half or more, so u don't carry that weight that long.
Sure there are some negativities, but where i’m from where we have a university in the city, they’re a huge help. To and from class without carbon emissions is amazing (plus not parking everytime) not to mention...they’re electric! sure walking works well as well but going to and from class in a short period of time without a scooter leaves no room for a bite or time. These flaws need to be sorted out with the city and all, but they do more good than bad. it’s good to see electric transportation that’s not killing our planet and will push for a less ‘carbon footprint’ form of transportation
I own a scooter 🛴 I haven’t have an accident (thank god) in the two years I have own it, why? bc I ride responsibility and respectful, people the had die or had accidents is for a reason not bc they were riding responsibility, I’m sorry I know it sounds terrible but is the reality.
That's the thing. If you own it, you're going to take care of it. When people rent, I assume they'll be bar hopping and drunk and careless. Even if they're in sober situations, it's not their scooter, they're going to be reckless.
@@nocause5395 Fatal accidents happen more often to people who wear helmets, so it's clearly not helping 🤷♀️ a study in Australia I think found drivers were more careless if bicycle drivers wore helmets, and drivers are a way bigger danger than flying off the bicycle.

pedestrians on scooters are still pedestrians just on small mobile platforms , and don't people in cars become more dangerous as soon as they start to move, and they also take up loads more space and pollute the air, and how many people get killed in car accidents when traveling on E scooters?, and they say the scooters are dangerous , well yes if you get hit by a car or truck they are, so it stands to reason that the car is still more dangerous than a scooter , so using that logic should we not ban cars and give the towns and city's up to cleaner E vehicles and micro transport . just saying .
When I was driving in SF I saw a girl fall from the scooter while going througg an intersection. No helmet, no shoulder or knee pads. You're going how fast on these and no protection is required? How is that Ok
Yes, you need at least a helmet. Need to be way more careful, scan road ahead for potholes, stay away from cars, learn to brake (soft brake when no emergency to avoid slipping), use low speeds in intersections, when around people or next to cars that may open doors etc.
Lol....i used 1x Lime in Lyon and never again. Payed almost 20eu for 1.5h of driving. Well it was a nice experience, but nothing special. Rather walk and use public transportation. But was surprised that they promoted 5eu start up fee and as soon as i signed in my swiss credit card, the price went to 10eu.

E Scooter should be for Private use only not the General Public. Meaning u should buy your own E Scooter. Private Owners of E Scooters train and read the Motorcycle Handbook. Not just get on and ride👀
@@LilacMonarch lol good question but im pretty sure there is a way since you can easily say that for the scooter itself. Like you can just pull up with a car and take it, but it has gps stuff etc and i think the helmits can have aswell
These stupid scooters are laying around everywhere in Columbus Ohio littering & cluttering up the sidewalks. It's impossible to ride a bike or anything on the sidewalks. I've never seen one person using them.
This is just a black propaganda by car manufacturers and taxi operators because their profit declines because e-scooters is faster and cheaper than them.
I hate them. First we gave up our space to the cars. Now we are giving up our little space that we have to stupid scooters. I live in Madrid and sidewalk is full of scooters because tourist park them as they want.
This is kind of car industry propaganda. People are using Uber, Lyft or their cars less often because of scooters - so car industry wants to ban these scooters...
biased reporting. accidents between car and scooter ? so its 100% the scooter's fault ? produce greenhouse gasses during manufacturing so not good for environment ? electric cars are the same just 1000 times bigger, so are they 1000 times worse for environment ?

I have no idea on numbers but I'm pretty sure there are more car related accidents, should we just ban cars too? Lol
I really hate these "news stories" that leave out half the story to fit an agenda. Which is unfortunately also just about all of them
Lie of omission 🤦♂️ aww man
1500 reported injuries. I've fallen off my bike dozens of times in my life with some minor injuries. Reported zero of them.
The complains are just dumb, there are much more injuries involved with bicycles or other vehicles.
In general; people are lazy and inconsiderate. Those scooters will be left all over the place 🤨
In Malaysia, our citizen already do that with the bicycle
Yep

@@traubd they take it home and put it back the next day? And there should be a dock nearby anyway. That's how bikesharing works in my city.
