      That's not as far fetched as you think, like he said they made it so you 3rd parties can run their own programs, as for the google assistant part, its not that complicated to add google assistant to a raspberry pie via their sdk and program it the robot to perform certain actions via voice.

    • @screes620
      @screes620 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Lets see, just off the top of my head. Could put a small Air tank on the back of Spot in case it finds someone so they have clean air to breath then lead them out of the building, or provide a map for figherfighters to get to that person. Create a map on the way to the person to show firefighters real time obstacles they will need to navigate to get to that person so they are prepared before they go into the building. Clear an unoccupied building without a person having to go through the building putting himself at risk when there ends up being no one in the building.

    • @zam023
      @zam023 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Sean Crees - Bravo! Good on you for being a visionary. People like YODZY are too narrow minded to see its potential. 1st response is a good idea for using Spotmini. Like you said about bringing oxygen to people who need it. In addition to that, it could bring first aid kit, AED etc.

    • @PyroNinja713
      @PyroNinja713 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      YODZY Spot has an arm in this very video. Admittedly, it probably can't drag anyone bigger than a toddler at this point, but it's not like they're anywhere near finished designing it. Also, the firefighters could still drag them out. Spot would at the very least save them time by searching the houses.

    • @tsmspace

      I thought some applications. (Well, if humans can do it, then we dont need robots, i like my job). If mail delivery moves to automation, some package drops will be better with legs. Farming is traditionally a big flat field, but only because of tractors and combines. Lots of agriculture would go better with plants in little uneven surfaced areas like landscaped gardens, but the scale and work required to maintain, plant, and harvest such scapes means that agriculture remains on a big flat plain. Moving to urban agriculture might not happen WITHOUT plenty of robots, because the amount of work per food. ..

    • @tsmspace
      @tsmspace 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surveying some roads is very dangerous. The workers, even when they are on the side of the road, generate extra traffic , which must slow down when people are nearby. Spot could run around witha survey crew and work like the most capable "tripod"

    • @tsmspace
      @tsmspace 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The real world truth is, robotic hands wont be very good for a very lomg time. They will get better, but continue to be a dissappointment for almost every imaginable task. In the warehouse, what works to move things is a fork and pallets. A pallet the size of a saucer could hold my drink. The drink could be on a pallet in the fridge. An arm at the fridge, with a fork-hand, could put the pallet on the floor. A wheeled robot the size of a roomba with a fork could transport the pallet to me, and a spot-mini woth a fork could the loft the saucer/pallet to the table where I sit. Small pallets of various sizes could break the at-home 3d printing industry onto the market, and shelves could be filled with items that live out their days on little pallets.

      @@WhyDidIJustEatThat It's not the legs that freak out people.
      It's the fact that this thing can walk into building and potentially kill you if it has guns attached to it.
      Remember, boston dynamics are funded by military, so I can see them mass producing these cute robot dogs and attaching some guns to them as they could easily infiltrate enemy territory, no worries about loses(at least if they can mass produce them cheap enough, and they could just be enough for skouting and gathering some info.
      You people simply do not see the potential, there's a good reason why MILITARY funding those robots.

    You wanna know why google gave up robotics? Because AI is ultimate shit. You need AI to run robots, whitout it its useless... So, they focusing on AI because once AI will be up and running so to speak, it can design robots way better than these guys can. AI robot designs would catch up and leave these guys in a dust in a year, two at most...

      Nuclear physics was used against people as well, yet the same science has lead to major advances in medicine. Even dams and wells; technologies / concepts that likely give you life-providing water have been sometimes used to devastate environments and force people to relocate from downstream.

      Every technology has a good and a bad side. Take for example a spear. It was invented by our ancestors for long distance hunting. Of course, it was also used to kill people. But if it wasn't invented, humanity wouldn't have progressed. The average age of these hunter-gatherers is 30 because adults usually die from tackling a predator by hand or by a club. Knowledge isn't passed because 'elders' die early.
      Technology gives us more options and based from history, the positive side is always greater than the negative.
