I honestly appreciate it when youtube vloggers are more forthright with having negative feelings. It just means everyone goes through the same thing and it's not always rainbows. Being overly negative can be bad, but so can being overly positive. Toxic positivity is a thing, so I always appreciate it when you admit that life isn't always perfect.

Honestly, a Masters is mainly to do 3 things:
    1. Buy more time to decide what you wanna do after undergrad
    2. Break into Management Consulting or fast track to management (this option is ideal if you actually have 3-5 years experience in the field first)
    3. Switch industries
If you are in the right field, and you already have your career planned out in the industry, I honestly don't think a Masters is necessary.

One other thing: It’s also a good idea if you want to take a huge pay cut and teach at the HS or community college level.

I agree, but grad school is a great option if you do not have a choice in the field you are looking for a position for because it buys you time. For instance, you get internships when you go to school, which means being able to make connections and build your resume further.

Breaking into Management Consulting would be better if you know someone rather than spend the money on grad school because you still may start off lower in the organization. I know too many MBAs who start off as associates and are passed for people who instead have applicable experience which she does already. Save the money and instead get the job experience. Do grad school to buy time or do it solely for learning, not to get ahead in your career.

I wouldn't even suggest paying for a masters to "buy time." From experience I know how quickly you can blow through your savings while unemployed, and by adding school debt to that you could easily cripple urself financially for a credential u may not have even needed to land ur next job.

Not only do you "deserve" a little purchase if that is what you want, you also deserve TIME- in fact, everyone deserves time to have life unfold. Please, care for your health, love family and friends, and take the time you need to work out the details on the next step. (This message is also for anyone who needs to hear this...life is messy and unpredictable.)

Got so sad when you said "I don't deserve this" ... because you did your best, you gave it your all and the rest is not up to you, it is completely out of your hands if it turns into a 'yes' or a 'no' in the end. So in my opinion, the way I view the world, you absolutely deserve it!

I’ve definitely thought about going back to school in my own struggles looking for a tech job post grad. But honestly it’s important to ask yourself if it’s still something you’d want to pursue right now even if the job market was easy. A grad degree definitely isn’t an escape or a way out from the current market but it can help you get somewhere new. I hope it gets easier for all of us❤

My question is - are you okay financially? If yes, I wouldn't stress about it and look for a good fit. If you're in need of income, then I might compromise a little and try a job you may not - initially - feel is a perfect fit. Jo Malone? I love Jo Malone - but would only buy if I have extra funds (e.g. no debt, lots of retirement saved, etc.). Lots of people seem to think we "deserve" a treat - I'm in the camp that purchases are never about deserving them - it's about affording them.

I started seeing videos about job search suggested to me not that long ago. I'm starting to search for a new job myself and definitely feeling your pain. It takes a lot of work and it is very frustrating to fill a bunch of forms, do the tests, answer some crazy questions and then just being dropped. It feels like a second job, which I have to do in the evenings after my current job. It's excausting and demotivating, but I feel like I hit the ceiling at my current job and it become toxic. So I appreciate seeing and hearing the same sentiments and stories to which I could relate. It helps feeling less of a failure.

    Hi Julia...
I found similarities in the way we think.. we crave stability therefore we always try to find a safety net or preparing for worst case scenarios... But... That also means that we are telling ourselves that we are not good enough for the things are supposed to be for us...
I know you are not asking for advice, but if I may.. this advice can be applied to many different scenarios in life... Take the time to just be still and observe your thoughts and emotions, acknowledge them and give yourself grace. By observing them as a separate entity, it will help you to not spiral or not get consume by them... Once the spiralling goes down, clarity will come to you... Clarity will only come when we are relax..
    Hope this helps... ❤

Julia, you deserve to take some time for yourself, honestly. I was also looking for a job since when I finished university, but unfortunately, I had to take care of my mom after I present my final paper and it took me 6 months until she died. At that time, I couldn't even look after a job and I felt so useless for not trying hard to make some money to help my family, but I stopped and with therapy, I understood my time with my mom was more important than a job. Then since August, I was at the same position as you: trying to looking after a job and questioning a lot how much time it'll take for me to actually get a job.
Then, in march, I lost my grandma, but at the time, I was being interviewed and then in April, I was accepted and I'm starting the whole hiring process and I was so shocked because I thought: I can't believe it that I got a job after what I had to witness in my life... You mentioned about going back to school, but I guess you really need to think if you want to pursue an academic field for now on your life. When you're unemployed, you ask yourself when your time is gonna reach out, but time will give you what you've been looking for and you also have opportunity to have interviews (which a lot of us even can't have this opportunity) so you're going into the right direction :)
Just be patient with yourself. You'll find what you want and also I wish best luck for you, fellas! I know you are capable of finding a good job or pursuing what you dreamt about it

I think you are better positioned to land one of these roles with your existing prior experience than someone with a higher degree in the field. (Yes I have done internships etc)

That is one cute bottle of emotional support perfume for sure 😊 My sis recently did a professional mba program and absolutely loved it. Too many group projects for my taste ha but def a consideration.

If you want to do an MS I highly recommend doing a computer science related one. The management aspect can be learned via corporate courses and such. Many companies offer these. However, an MS or Msc shows your expertise in a certain field, what also helps if you want to become self-employed one day. I did an MBA out of a crisis, but it was a very scientific focused MBA. Otherwise I would have chosen a MS or Msc. Good luck to you

This isn’t just how job searching feels in tech, this is how job searching is in general. I’m currently looking for a new job since I will soon be quitting my current one in the coming month, and I have applied to dozens (I have literally lost count) across multiple job boards and have heard nothing back from a single one. It’s extremely upsetting.

I really appreciate these videos. It definitely is super hard finding a job right now. I would advice maybe not going into grad school unless you do have a plan for it! I'm completing my PhD in August and wish I got more industry experience. I feel that the skills I currently have are nice, but would have more success if I was already working in industry. I had a couple of interviews with companies I would like to work for, but I really bombed those behavioral interviews. But gotta stay positive (hard to do) and maybe something will come along.

You will get one job Julia, I'm not even questioning that. But this life experience of unemployment is probably one of a kind in your life where you would probably never experience again. So enjoy every moment. - From a subscriber who is also going through tech job searching as a new grad right now

Going back to grad school could be very exhausting. I have a full-time job as a team lead, and I am currently doing a further education on Saturdays. My exams are due in November and December, and I cannot wait to leave them behind and have my full weekend back.
