This series of videos is the most complete set of instructions on tying deer hair poppers that I have ever watched (and I've watched lots of them). Great work.
im tying one of these poppers right now. iv tied hundreds of sex dungeons and love spinning hair but somehow never seen a hair packer before. learn something new about fly fishing every day
thanks so much man. its so great how the world of fly fishing brings together so many cool people. i currently dont have a smartphone but i can probably post a picture or send you one tomorrow when my mom wakes up lol. i got robbed a while ago so i dont have a phone or good computer. I actually cranked out 2 of these poppers soon as i was done with your videos. i havnt tested if they float or anything but i used very little glue, as well as made a couple alterations. to solve the problem of the popper head curling forward with less glue i hand cut a tiny hard plastic ring to squeeze over the eye of the hook and then super glue into place. its almost invisible. mine arent stacked as tight as yours or with as even color patterns, but once my packer comes in they will be. i also havnt used grass guards, but they arent necessary where i personally use this type of pattern. my next plan is to turn your idea into a super tight mouse pattern. my favorite thing to do is night fish for brown trout from a boat with mouse/rat patterns, the profile of this popper is perfect for that.
Let me know if I can assist with any issues you encounter while working with deer hair. I am always willing to help. Sorry for your string of bad luck. I hate theives!!!

The packer I use is a Fugly Packer by Pat Cohen. I call it the "industrial packer". I would like to see your fly when it is complete.
