    People who've never run competitively (or just for exercise) can't appreciate how difficult it is to run a five minute mile. These women are cutting 30 seconds off that pace. Impressive. Then consider that elite marathon runners complete 26 consecutive five minute miles. It's almost impossible to believe.

      @RMDY_RyNite Agreed, depending upon one's age and other factors. I became a runner at the tender age of 33, after being told that I'd die if I didn't give up cigarettes and lose weight. After about two months, I was consistently running seven minute miles. Typically, I'd run about five miles/day except on Sunday, when I'd run forever. Have never tried to run much faster because my knees tell me that it'd be suicide. Now, at 70, I continue to run obsessively, but my mile time is 9 minutes. One lesson that all this has taught me -- we all know it -- is that you can't outrun Father Time. Best regards.

      It is true that guys times are comparatively faster than girls, but that is only because of physiological makeup. Women will inherently be a bit slower due to a lack of testosterone, but that does not mean a man can do anything a woman can do. Also, a 4:30 is really impressive for a woman and not as much for a guy

    Tactical race that came down to the last quarter push. Nelson did everything right on that last lap, waited on the leader's shoulder until just before the last turn, took the lead and the inside lane just as the turn began to force Rizk to have to pass on the outside. She just didn't count on that final kick by Rizk as she blew right by her. Nelson did stumble slightly but I was glad she was able to hold on for second.

    • @Sailor376also
      @Sailor376also 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Graeme Glebe There is both a possible plus and a possible minus to the indoor/outdoor track Indoor is a controlled environment, zero wind, flawless surface,, but it does normally have more and tight corners. (Usually a short track.) Outdoors the elements, wind, rain, track surface can be anything, but it is longer and fewer corners. Personally, and it has been decades since I ran, I never saw a difference in times or effort. (Both were brutal.) I am a larger person, so wind, even tiny bits, the upwind effort was in no way balanced when facing downwind. I have seen a number of responses to my initial statement,, and I think the really important fact is,,
      We may be awaiting the college and Olympic stage for Touhy and Ping,,, more important,,, much more important,,, these two very fine, exciting runners are likely the tip of the iceberg,, the bellwether sheep leading the new flock of runners. These two young women may be the faces we see,,, but I cannot but think that there are another 50 we have yet to see that are saying, "If she can do it, so can I." It may not be two we are going to cheer on,,, it may be 52 young men and women. It could be great fun to watch.
      In just my lifetime the marathon record has gone fro 2:20 down to sub 2:00 I can't wait to see what Touhy and Ping may do.

You run YOUR own race, that suits you to get the maximum from your ability, that is what will get you a better result more often than adapting to what other runners are doing as they are running their own tactics to suit them.
    Too often you see those without a kick sitting in and doing nothing then get absolutely smoked. Also losing the race because you ran 6 laps in lane two on a 200m track, jesus wept!

This means they compete with and beat men in multi day event where strength matters less and your ability to suffer takes over b

    • @sk1ppercat912
      @sk1ppercat912 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jesus is Fake you’re probably right. That doesn’t change the fact. Also you have to consider the fact that in this context where power is relevant you’re comparing apples to oranges. These women are equally as impressive as there male counterparts just different. Just like para-athletes. You can’t fairly compare them(with a few exceptions like blade runners with blades under a certain length) to able body athletes. That doesn’t mean either group is less impressive than the other. If you’re in the top fraction of a percent at what ever you do that’s impressive.

    No wonder they call it "game theory" as promoted by Princeton economist Nobel Prize winner John Nash PHD ("A Beautiful Mind " played by Russell Crowe )which is based on an adversarial situation, and basically states that one party is not going to alter his behavior as long as he/she perceives the others aren't going to change theirs. Here, there really is no way for anyone to plan and make any predictions of behavior, ("Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth" - Michael Tyson) and so game theory/planning is thrown out the window.
