The biggest difference is there's 183 stippling dots on the Gen 4 and 184 on the Gen 5, this makes a huge difference to your grip.

Years ago my agency tested (Aberdeen Proving Ground) all available .40 S&W handguns for adoption as our Service Pistol. The Glock pistols all experienced catastrophic malfunctions between 6,000 and 8,000 rounds of our 10,350 round durability tests. Glock added a locking block pin which cured the problem. Those pins are absent on the Gen 5. Perhaps Glock has found another way to reinforce the locking block.(?)

yes they did, gen 5 40sw pistols are thicker than 9mm pistols. so glock 23 gen 5 is thicken then glock 19 gen 5. Not quite as thick as g21 or g20...but in between

Great comparisons. There were a few mistakes though. My Gen3, for example, didn't have a cutout on the front of the grip. I think he meant Gen2, and the one on that Gen3 pistol either got scuffed or it was modified because it doesn't look perfectly round. My guess is that it wasn't originally there. My Gen4 also had the bump on the beavertail portion of the frame. I think this was introduced a little later when they started using beavertail back straps in addition to the non-beavertail ones.

Sootch/Robbie - Great review! Thanks for putting the time and effort to show the differences between various generations. Regarding the rails, just an FYI. Glock rails were never Picatinny. They are proprietary "Glock Rail", so it seems that perhaps the Gen 5 finally does have a standard 1913 Picatinny, hence the larger groove.

A very good overview of these GENs. One (?), there seems to be a diff with the sights on GEN 5 vs GEN 4. One manufacturer points to a height difference? Is there any mounting changes especially on the front post slide cut and is the rear cut differently? Thanks for this good video. You hinted a higher rear on GEN 5, but is that just the sight (?) and does it carry through the entire GEN 5 line.
