My whole team and I are playing on AG pitch while wearing FG boots for 10 years now. Rotation of the knee happend only once... So i am not really sure about this video but still thank you for the info.
AG - artificial grass FG - firm ground (natural grass) SG - soft ground (rainy muddy natural grass) TF - turf ground (similar to AG but different, turf grass is much shorter than AG grass) MG - multi-ground (can wear them to different grass) Advice: don't wear FG to any artificial grass ground, 2017 I suffered level 3 lateral meniscus torn because the FG boots stucked too deep and firm into the ground, my body turned around and my left knee did not. Ouch. Took me 3 years to recover and play properly but will never be at 100% again. Only if I knew...
here to share my story: i am a semi-professional player at a club, and I used to wear FG-boots on AG pitches although I knew that it was a bad idea; I never really thought that I would actually get hurt because of "too much grip". However, 6 weeks back I jumped up to head the ball away, and I landed on one leg, and I tried to accelerate away towards the ball... leg got caught in the turf and caught an ACL tear, and some meniscus inflammation. Threw my old boots out, got new ones and after 6 long weeks came back to the pitch. And, in this 6 weeks, I lost the opportunity to play for the professional squad. Moral of the day: listen to JayMike and don't wear FG-boots on AG-pitches.

1000000% agree with this! I tore my ACL because I was wearing FG vapors on artificial grass. I was sprinting and went up for a header. When I landed on my right leg first I felt my cleat get stuck on the AG. My momentum kept my body moving forward while my right leg remained stuck on the AG and then SNAP! I have played 2-3 times per week on turf for 10+ years using "FG" boots and have yet to be injured... this was after returning from an ACL surgery required due to injury sustained while wearing Copa Mundial turf boots... quite frankly I believe the opposite from what is being claimed is true here. Pros do it al the time - if it really was dangerous they wouldn't be doing it - their teams wouldn't allow it.
Obviously you still can tear an ACL or get any other injury with AG or Turf Boots on AG Fields or Turf Fields. Only wearing them doesn't exclude a injury, it just lower the risk of get these injuries.
It's worth paying some extra money for the service of not being injured, because if it happens, Your out for a while (painfully) and probably at a very inconvenient timing, always prioritize Your health & playability.

Usually I play in Astros on normal grass because you dont ruin the grass and they can be worn on both grass and astro. But sometimes i do wear my studded boots if it is muddy (I'm in the UK)
I tore my ACL from wearing FG boots on AG. Hard accelleration to intercept a pass. When i got to the ball and wanted to change direction, the knee twisted. Im believe it would not have been torn with AG boots.
TF shoes are better for the old artificial turf pitches (also hard pitches or ash pitches) and AG for the newer artificial turf pitches with higher artificial grass
Only problem is inventory. Can't ever find AG boots in stock anywhere. If this is true why are Nike, Adidas, etc selling us the wrtong boots all the time?
I play on both AG and FG pitch randomly so I never know if it’s gonna be 50/50 or 30/70 or whatever. Taking your advice I’m gonna go with AG boots but I have 1 question… what are the downsides of playing with AG boots on FG pitch??
With AG boots/shoes. I feel like i would prefer less grip and risk slipping on my rear end. Is there a selection with lower studs/pattern to allow that moreso than others?
Why I haven’t seen this video 4 weeks earlier … Exactly what you said my shoe stocked in the grass and my knee turned… But thanks :) now when I’m fit again I’ll try the other ones
My friend lost his leg from an injury cause he used FG boots on an AG pitch. I even have multiple friends who tore their ACL cause they wore FGs on AG pitches. The bottom line is that he's right. For the most part you will be fine. But the one instance you get injured, it can be very very bad. It only takes one nasty injury to fuck you up good. Be safe out there and use the right boots for the right surfaces.
I know you said SG are the worst on AG, but why? Most SG boots have conical metal studs. Surely this resists the AG surface less than triangular/ chevron shaped studs from an FG soleplate?
Yes, but at the same time there are typically 6-8 metal studs which are longer than the plastic stud. That means that you’re essentially running on those 6-8 studs only, as they’re the ones in contact with the ground. That’s A) very unstable as you can’t penetrate the ground and thus running on top of it on those metal studs meaning that you can be more prone to rolling over and B) that there’s more force applied on each stud since those fewer studs get all of your weight. That means that they’re likely to get stuck because of the added pressure and that’s bad news for your knees. Oh and they’ll tear the pitch apart but that’s not really a problem for your body per se 😄 /Jay
What about brands saying that their boots are " FG/AG" even that they're using the se aggressive soleplate with chevron studs , are brands lying to us? , or are we making soleplate type issue a bigger concern than it actually is?

I have played 2-3 times per week on turf for 10+ years using "FG" boots and have yet to be injured... this was after returning from an ACL surgery required due to injury sustained while wearing Copa Mundial turf boots... quite frankly I believe the opposite from what is being claimed is true here. Pros do it al the time - if it really was dangerous they wouldn't be doing it - their teams wouldn't allow it.
Which fg boots do you have? It is also to do with the pitch quality aswell. If it is good quality 3g or 4g then it is less risky
@@npc2k puma evo powers 1.3 for the last 7 years... before that nike total 90 lazer iii turf fields generally good with the stupid rubber beads...
Obviously you still can tear an ACL or get any other injury with AG or Turf Boots on AG Fields or Turf Fields. Only wearing them doesn't exclude a injury, it just lower the risk of get these injuries.
@@slaytheminion I do not believe it makes any difference.
Torn my acl for the exact same reason, had to hang boots up at 28, listen to him, he knows what he’s talking about
It's worth paying some extra money for the service of not being injured, because if it happens, Your out for a while (painfully) and probably at a very inconvenient timing, always prioritize Your health & playability.
You can get hard rubber, AG studs for SG boots. They are much lower than SG studs and the grip is just right for the surface and the ball.
Great video Jay, I noticed I was getting really bad back aches training with FG boots on AG surfaces weekly and not once did it cross my mind that it might be the boots I'm wearing. Looking up some nice AG boots right now.
Have you made the switch yet? Noticed I was getting bad back pain the last game I played. Got a set of FG phantom elites
Well 2:15 i have experienced.. it was the cause of me breaking my ankle on AG field wearing FG boots.. my foot was simply planted in the ground while i turned my body
I’m currently alternating between AG pro tiempos and TF tiempos. I only play on AG. No issues with either pair. Don’t really have a preference either
had my first game after 4 month this weekend, cause i injured myself with fg on ag
What boots were you wearing
@@npc2k Nike Mercurial Vapor 11 2016-17
What is the difference between AG boots and TF boots? I thought that TF boots are better for artificial grass due to the foam material they have 🤔
TF shoes are better for the old artificial turf pitches (also hard pitches or ash pitches) and AG for the newer artificial turf pitches with higher artificial grass
Thank you for this video it really answered all my questions. You have got yourself a new subscriber 👍
My ag cleats are getting old and can't seem to find a place to get them in the US. Why can't they be shipped outside Europe?
What’s the experience using mizuno fg boots on ag surfaces? The studs are circular yes but are they too long?
Thanks for the info
Very true...I used FG boots on AG pitch...and got a twisted knee
Hope you have a speedy recovery! /Jay
@@unisport yeah thx
One can only hope the boot manufacturers will hear you and make more AG variants...
With AG boots/shoes. I feel like i would prefer less grip and risk slipping on my rear end.
Is there a selection with lower studs/pattern to allow that moreso than others?
This was SO MUCH FUN to watch. Thank you!
I'm in America right now so we don't really have AG boot where can I get those from
Why I haven’t seen this video 4 weeks earlier …
Exactly what you said my shoe stocked in the grass and my knee turned…
But thanks :) now when I’m fit again I’ll try the other ones
My friend lost his leg from an injury cause he used FG boots on an AG pitch. I even have multiple friends who tore their ACL cause they wore FGs on AG pitches. The bottom line is that he's right. For the most part you will be fine. But the one instance you get injured, it can be very very bad. It only takes one nasty injury to fuck you up good. Be safe out there and use the right boots for the right surfaces.
Which boots were they wearing? E.g was is Nike or Adidas? Thanks
@@npc2k majority wore Nike, some used Adidas. As for my friend who lost his leg, I believe he was using adidas.
@@JNT169 thanks. They say adidas ag stud pattern is the same as the fg version thats why i asked.
@@npc2k yeah adidas AG stud pattern is trash. no cap
@@JNT169 yeah its annoying as i love the speedportal .1 turfs but don't want to get the ag version with the stud pattern.
So I've got Nike ZOOM Vapors 15 academy FG/MG which means i can use them without risk on artifical grass😊
Kindly suggest what type of boots to use on a natural ground without grass. Thanks.
my son plays in college, we've been getting AG boots from Unisport as they don't have them in the US! Excellent investment in his health
Thanks for the explanation. I will try to pick AG boots going forward!
It's basically an FG boot that has the warranty of an AG boot. In other words, you don't lose your warranty by wearing FG/AG boots on artificial grass, but they're just as unsafe to use as normal FG boots are. Go full AG is my best advice. /Jay
I never found AG boots sold in Indonesia, although there are so many AG pitches here.
What's the difference in playability though? From the comments here it seems like the FG boots give more grip so allow for sharper movements, turns, and explosion... Is that the case? Appreciate you consider the safety and monetary aspects, but playability is also important...
In Thailand, they don't sale ag boots in the stores, but almost 90% is artificial pitch. I don't know why?
I did this and I didn’t know it was wrong and I got injured. A partial avulsion fracture
Thanks for the tips
What about Hybrid boots like the Puma fusion ?? They are listed as AG/FG boots and they basically bladed. Now I'm worried.

@@unisport wow you responded . Thanks so much I appreciate the advice. I will get some AG's I should of learned my lesson because I broke my Sesamoid in them. I think it was because they were half a size to big. I will go full AG from now on.
My boots are made for grass and artificial grass as it says FG/AG on the box. But thanks for the insight tho 🙏🏻
I’m sitting here watching this with a knee injury, an injury that happened literally because of this. Should have seen this vid a few months ago …
Sorry to hear that, hope you'll have a speedy recovery! We made this video a while back, but it's still super relevant. th-cam.com/video/Cq7zdNJIm7I/w-d-xo.html
What about the Puma King fg/ag line? The studs are all conical. Would these still be considered more as fg boots?
I am begging to pwg to do 3 skill tutorial

if only i found out this video earlier. i suffered a shin fracture after being tackled while stopping a rebound. i lost my balance and usually i would fall on the ground. instead the pivot foot got stuck firmly and the twisting momentum + me sitting on my pivot leg got me into a bad injury. will defo change to a AG boots in the future
😢 feel u bro
What about HG cleats? (Hard ground) I'm a goalkeeper who uses HG cleats on an Artificial Grass
This is true frl, I’ve just found this out like a month and a half ago. Not only your knees, but your ankles too. My ankles feel loose and real uncomfortable.
What boots are you using
@@npc2k I was using the adidas speed portal (lace less)
is mg(adidas multiground) the best option?
HI. can you make a video where you analyze the difference between ag and fg on the new predators?
I see a fairly similar sole
The big concern is the Injury. I wore a new pair for adidas predator FG in AG. After 2 games just one quick turn and my knees gone. Suspecting a ACL tear. 🥲
Now i ordered a new pair of AG boots.
Nice video, bro 👍👍thank you
any body have any experience with any tiempo model with AG sole plate on AG? in terms of durability, i know if you use FG on turf the leather separates from the sole fairly quickly due to the abrasive turf. how is the durability of a leather tiempo with the AG plate on turf?
yes I've got the new tiempos in ag. played about 5 training sessions and 5 matches, and absolutely no problems so far.
Very important video. I tore my acl this way and it’s been a long road ever since
Which boots?
@@npc2k they were in a pair of umbro medusae lace less leather. They have a mixed stud configuration

What's an all-round good boot for turf, and also Sunday football on a wet playing field??
I use metal studs on artificial gras and it has not warn down so wear them on anything
👌
👍
I clicked faster than ever
What about Nike's Mg(multi-ground) boots !?.
which is the lower risk in use between FG and MG in all type of surface..in my area AG boots are a bit hard to find
Sprained my MCL today whilst waiting for AG boots to arrive. Find yourself some AG ones
What happen if I cut in a half FG studs in order to play on turf floor?
Dumb question but can i just wear old fg boots that are worn down and have conical studs? Same principle right?
I play rugby and some mini soccer being a 100kg guy I play mini soccer with a bladed fg studs and boy I try to dona cross pass the studs got caught sprained my ankle boy that was the worst ankle sprain I ever had so wear AG on AG pitches
Which fg boots did you wear?
@@npc2k I wear Adidas Predator Edge
question does mizuno have ag boots? Because I really want them but i play on both.
Firm ground is grass right? I play on grass and use FG but sometimes train on sg and use FG? Any good recommendations?

I broke my sesamoid bone doing this. Had to have 2 operations and was out for 9 months good watch
Same I broke my Sesamoid 16 weeks ago wearing Neymar Fusion boots. I'm still on the mend.
Umm astron with lots of black rubber mini studs okay on natural grass? Curious because I'm more comfortable with astros.
Had a tibial plateau fracture in FG boots on an AG pitch. Went to make a sharp pivot and while the rest of my body moved, my right leg was planted and well, snap! Never again.
Which boots were you wearing?
@@npc2k Nike Tiempo Legend V. Not even the craziest stud pattern, but that just shows how much grip FG boots have on AG. The rear studs were long and dug in super deep.
Pwolli video, man!🔥 helful
I have a question about FG/AG boots. Can i use them on AG fields?
I think this is why I have been having ankle problems because I make so many sharp turns it hurts my ankle and been causing be injuries so purchased some ag should be coming soon
what would you prefer Mercurial Superflys 9 to ag or fg
Can anyone tell me if ag soles are better for sole rolls and gripping the ball Vs terf boots? I don't have a slipping problem but when it's when my sole slips off the ball.
turf is quite better but you shouldn't buy based on this, see the surface you most play on
