    What I'm loving most about the 13th gen Intel is how so many in the community are suggesting pairing the 13600K with a B660 board. Even with 12 gen people were still stressed about pairing a "K" series chip with a "B" series board - losing out on overclocking. It's like people have finally noticed that the overclocking 'feature' has been largely replaced by the 'boost' features for most practical purposes.

    • @POLARTTYRTM
      @POLARTTYRTM ปีที่แล้ว +6

      For sure it has been replaced. It is strange to live in the times of "boosts" making OC a thing of the past when you lived all through it.

      Z790 board has released and many computer stores have huge discount on Z690 board. After discount many Z690 boards are selling at the same price as B660 board but with far far better VRM.
      Also if you don't have a 12th gen CPU, you need board with flash bios button for bios update without CPU. AFAIK, none of the MSI B660 board have flash bios button.

    • @RayanMADAO
      @RayanMADAO ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Also people have been recommending it now because the 12600k literally has a different core count than its non k equivalent. Not sure about the 13k yet but it was like that for 12th gen

    • @b0ne91
      @b0ne91 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If you buy a K sku, you're just wasting money by going B series chipset. Gaming doesn't really utilize E cores and by your own logic, you're not gaining much from a little extra frequency. With the 13400 not being out yet, there's a weird limbo where a 13600k is much better than a 12400 - but wasting money on a K sku you can't fully use is still dumb unless you absolutely need extra cores - in which case a 12700F over a 12600k would've still been the better investment. This is going to be true again the very second the entire 13th gen lineup is out.

      It's false economy. I recycled a Cooler Master Hyper T4 (abt. $35) to cool an R9 5900x on a new build mainly because I had it spare. Did it cope? While it did mostly keep the CPU under 95 most of the time but it was constantly cycling between high and max fan speeds to keep the temps reasonable under any sort of CPU load, making it not only noisy and uncomfortable to listen to (fan whine) but possibly reducing the CPU life in the long run. So I went to maybe the other extreme and purchased a Noctua NH-D12L on special from Newegg for $120. I would have paid the extra for the silence alone but the monumental reduction in CPU temp is a happy bonus. There are probably a dozen or so coolers that cool as well as the D12L for around $80 like the be quiet! shadow rock 4 etc. but I have yet to find a real budget solution that is good enough for 150w + loads. Spend just a little more it's worth the difference.

    This was fantastic to see! I'm going pretty much "budget-all-in" due to the fact that I'm right now on my way to upgrade to a 13700k & going overkill on cooler & z790 board, but I'm sticking to the ddr4 memory I've already got. It'll take me around 4 more months (6 months in total) to get everything, but right now I'm on a non-k i7-7700 with a 3080Ti gpu on a h110 motherboard so I've got big hopes on this upgrade.

Good to see the 13600k with ddr4 is fine for gaming and doesn't need a d5 platform really. Hi I would love if you couls do an intensive undervolting guide for 13700K and 13600k in a Cheap Z690 and cheap cooler like this to see if a cheap cooler or Low profile cooler and cheap mother board like Z690m-itx/ax currently selling for 149usd on newegg would make it?

    Can you compare a 12600k with avx512, a 7600x with avx512 and a 13600k in a couple rpcs3 games? I feel like any modern CPU can do regular gaming properly, but every fps counts when you're dipping under 30fps when playing emulated games

    That cooler looks oddly familiar to the COOLERMASTER Hyper 212X I used for my FX-8350 and I have it in my R5 3600. It's a great and cheap cooler I have to say.

    Wow, Brian, this was very helpful. I would have never guessed you could use a $25 air cooler with a 13600K. About that motherboard, though: Can you update the BIOS if you don't already have a 12th Gen CPU? I've never done a BIOS update and I"m scared I'm going to mess this up.

    • @nonexistentpc8880
      @nonexistentpc8880 ปีที่แล้ว

      With that specific motherboard you can do a BIOS update as long as you have a power supply connected to the 24pin connector. The motherboard used supports BIOS flashback which allows you to do a BIOS update without turning on the PC.

    Can you also test some tdps? Like stock it's going to 200 watts, with the 181 Watt cap, it literally performs the same, then cap it to 150 and then to 125 watts just to see how big the difference really is.

    A very good take. I currently have msi B660-a pro, 12400 and arctic freezer esport duo cooler (overkill probably). Cpu never goes over 66 degrees without power limits in gaming. I plan on upgrading to 13600k or 13700k in the future but only if i get a better gpu (6600xt currently).

    • @ausfoodgarden
      @ausfoodgarden ปีที่แล้ว

      The esport duo cooler supports lga1700? Dam! I didn't buy one because it wasn't listed. Ended up with the Deepcool AK620 which is a bit more costly.

      @@ausfoodgarden Yea, installing was a bit hard, since i already built it with a stock cooler which i started hating day one. I bet this new cooler can handle 13600k unlocked on my board.

    As there wasn't any gaming thermal throting it turned out to be a DDR4 vs DDR5 comparison. Great to see the $25 cooler do so well, absolutely fine outside productivity. Would have been nice to see the max temp after a long looped cinebench run to check temps still stayed fine.

  • @greenbow7888
    @greenbow7888 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could undervolt a bit and the temps under control.
    Have you ever tried putting a power limit on the CPU, like Derbauer did recently?

    Hi.Brian.
    Thanks a lot for your video.
    I am the holder of this WOVIBO brand. we are a new brand. But we have always been committed to producing cost-effective products. I am very happy to see your video. Every year we put out a better product than last year. Actually the product you tested was produced by us in 2021. We will stop producing it this year. But we will come out with better products. It's the latest 2 coolers in the same link. (We optimized the mounting bracket to make it easier to install the CPU cooler. And used better copper tubes and aluminum sheets to improve performance. And the surface was painted to prevent the copper tubes from oxidizing and turning black).and We will deliver the products to the local warehouse by rail and ship.
    In this way, its price will be lower. I am so excited to see your video. We are a manufacturer from China. Mainly in the production of computer cooling accessories. We also have many better products that are not released on Aliexpress.
    We hope to send them to you for testing. We hope to receive a lot of feedback so that we can better optimize the product.
    thank you again .
    best regards from Wovibo!

    With everyone saying how well overclocking is these high-end CPUs with Ln2 ….. yet many over the past couple years have gone the other way and undervolt &/or underclock their cpu and GPU for massive energy and temperature savings resulting in cheaper cooling solutions being purchased, 95-98% of gaming fps still being obtained, less fan noise to name a few bonuses. Even the rtx4090 touted with its 600w GPU power is in many gaming scenarios pulling many extra frames with less wattage compared to many last generation RTX30-series high end ….. such as 3080-12GB/80Ti/90/90Ti gaming GPU power usage results

    Hey Mr TechYes Man! Was wondering if you could assist me. Whenever I watch your videos in full screen, I get this distracting black screen. It's almost like the black screen that occurs during graphics driver installation. It happens during transitions ie 10:50 to 10:52. I've tested Brave Browser and Edge, so it doesn't seem to be a browser issue. I'm using IGPU on my Intel Pentium Gold G7400. Using latest graphics driver and windows 11 is up to date too. Thanks

    This is *the* video I needed. I want a 13600K, and I have an Asus Strix B660i currently with a 12400. I asked about B660 + 13600K on Reddit, TH-cam and on Discord, and most of the replies were just "Why not get a Z690 board?". The reason being is I don't care about OCing, but I still want the performance of Raptor-Lake. Yes, I could wait for locked 13th gen CPUs, but the 13400 probably won't have E cores, just P, and the 13700 non-K will cost more than a 13600K.

  • @ABaumstumpf
    @ABaumstumpf ปีที่แล้ว

    I used an i5 12600K on a B660 motherboard. Tested it also on an identical setup just on Z690 and not much difference.
    But before undervolting you need to disable ALL "enhancement" features like "extra turbo voltage" or "multicore stability" and what they call that. From the video it looks like you still have the turbo-voltage enabled - in my case those things were an extra 20W in turbo without providing any performance.
    With undervolting i got the 12600k to run at sub 90W in Cinebench with full turbo, but decided to run it according to specs so it reaches ~95W. But as it is now used as an office-PC (that is why the K-series - the e-cores) i limited the turbo to 'only' 20 seconds - like that the fans never spin up and stay at their near silent low RPM all the time.
