    Great video which explains my current issue where the drivers headlight went out on my 2018 Crosstrek and the dealer is quoting me $1800 Canadian to replace the entire headlight assembly. First and last Subaru I’ll ever own!

    I own a 2018 Subaru Forester Touring with this kind of headlight. The driver's side seems to have a loose wire, because the headlamp usually doesn't work, but lights up occasionally when I turn to the left or right. You are an extremely patient man, taking this monstrosity apart. This thing is like a Rube Goldberg machine on steroids. Jeepers, it's only a headlight! As someone else mentioned, the whole assembly is about $1,000 from Subaru, then there's the labor to replace it. Yikes.

    well well well...the days of going to Amazon and ordering up a new H11 LED in a very high light output are gone it seems. I am frustrated at Subaru that they did this. I get it though - as they can now sell their 10 candle power LED with the whole housing for $750 dollars instead of letting other profiteer sell JUST THE LED BULB for $50 and do it yourself. It truly is all about the money. I thank *DIY E* for doing this terrific video. It answers all my questions. A Major THANK YOU, to you...!!

    TY for this. Now I know what my headlight guy meant when he said he tried to retro hid projectors (2017 forester XT) and it threw errors. Not an easy swap/plug and play and definitely can't just replace the LED bulb. Thanks for the video, further confirmed that I will indeed need Subaru to replace the whole assembly to fix the responsive head light. It's clear that some connector somewhere is losing connection as the light turns left. I might hold on to the $1,000 until the light just goes out completely.

    Super disappointed as my 18’ WRX has SRH issues all the time. Paid $1400 for the passenger assembly and now my drivers side is intermittent. Constant “headlight disabled” warning yet the light isn’t alway out. I assume connection issue but, damn. This is getting old. Steering responsive headlights. I thought this basic level of tech was pretty cool a few years back. Until I found out what other companies are developing with adaptive headlights that detect other cars and pedestrians to then dim those areas only. Toyota AHS (Adaptive High-Beam System) and others like Mercedes and BMW are bringing auto lighting to the next level. I hope to see more from Subaru than simple high-beam assist and steering responsive headlights, soon.

    • @DIYEVERYTHING
      @DIYEVERYTHING  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are also auto dimming but is't like switching from high beam to low beam and not selective areas. That does sound interesting.

  • @doodskie999

    Imagine 10-15 years ago we only have a reflective housing and a halogen bulb. If the light goes out, just replace it with a $5 bulb.
    Now if the light goes out and you are out of warranty, its an easy $1000+, probably needs a scan tool to reprogram the new headlight housing too, and probably a good 4+ hours of labor.
    Audi and BMW are also using laser headlights now, cant imagine the bill to replace those things.
    Dont get me wrong, I can easily afford these new cars, its just that I don't want to go through the hassle in replacing these over-complicated systems.
    No thanks, I'm keeping my 2014 FXT.

I was gonna get a used 2020 until I saw that the 2021s all have SRH standard and they don't really cost that much more at this point. So, I've been saving up more on my down payment and just get a 2021 brand new. I wonder if the Legacy/Outback headlights are also auto-leveling. • @DIYEVERYTHING
      @DIYEVERYTHING  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From tearing this one apart, I learned there are some very small gears and parts that could get damaged from moisture or small debris or even sand getting into them. I think if the lense was cracked and had an open area for a period of time, you may have gotten dirt in it and may not be repairable.
