    I think the problem with these tools right now is that you need way too much computer knowledge to get started. I think making installer packages for all the tools would massively simplify the process and make it friendlier.
    When I first started, I didn't really understand Anki, and diving into it at the deep end would have been very off putting. However, working from a printed book (RTK) in combination with a premade RTK deck was simple enough to get me started and keep me motivated.
    I'm all in favour of improving on a 40+ year old method, I just think at this stage of Migaku there's too much complex tech in the way to reach a mass audience. Platforms like Duolingo are popular because they're super easy to pick up. This video is info overload even for me who's been using Anki for well over a year now.
    I do think the Migaku tools have the potential to lead to much better and more efficient learning outcomes than Duolingo, but just now there's too much of a barrier to entry for the average user.

      I, and I guess the rest of the team, feel the same way. Currently there are a lot of settings you have to play with and a lot addons you have to install. But at this stage, due to the use of external software (Anki) there is no other way.
      We are already working on something to simplify it as much as possible with the given framework, but the biggest improvement will happen once we can switch over from Anki to our own SRS.

    Please upload subtitles! And if you can improve the audio in the future, that'd be awesome. Idk if it's mic settings, mic placement, post-processing, or something else, but the audio is pretty low-quality and, with the lack of subtitles, makes it more difficult to follow than it needs to be

    It might be a bit of wasted time adding individual kanjis to me. Most kanji are never used individually but only with it's kanji partner. 蜘蛛 for example, if you only know one of these kanji's it's useless. Another example in N5 you Learn 携帯 as cell phone, and then a few thousand sentences down the line you might learn 帯 means to wear a sword (also meaning sash)... etc. Theres tons of kanji I can pronounce the on yomi and kun for but have no idea what the kanji is without it's partner or verb stem.

    I’m not convinced. The problem of RTK is RTK itself. I could already do nearly all of this with yomichan + RTK. But I don’t believe RTK is an actual effective method to learn kanji, in particular at an advanced level.

  • @imbritish
    @imbritish 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm trying to understand if I'm getting this - The method is basically RTK but integrated alongside vocab+sentence mining from a way earlier stage?

    • @Ben-rf8gr
      @Ben-rf8gr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yes. The problem with memorising RTK or even RRTK from the start is that it takes 1-3 months, has a high burnout rate, and you forget a lot of the kanji after because you aren’t seeing them in your mining or immersion. With this addon, you frontload say 50 kanji cards, and then start going through a beginner sentence deck like the Tango one they provided. Then as you go through the sentence deck, your kanji deck will only get populated with kanji that are going to appear in the words from the sentence deck, which i think is a more efficient way to remember them as you will learn a kanji and then be able to see it used in a vocab/sentence card shortly after. I hope I explained it correctly.

  • @Mizu_ly
    @Mizu_ly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Tango N5 deck that you guys offer doesn't format the text, they still show the stuff like [;a]. but if I create a new card and copy-paste what is in the field of the same deck, without changing anything, it formats everything. I don't know if it's a me thing but I don't know what is going on

    • @Mizu_ly
      @Mizu_ly 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok i found out that happens because those cards, that don't format, have the Card Type Migaku Japanese Sentence-a0c80, and Migaku Japanese Sentence formats it properly, now i don't know how to change all those card types with the normal mikagu add-on

    • @Mizu_ly
      @Mizu_ly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ok, i found the solution. In case anybody has a similar problem:
      1) Go to Browse and select the Tango deck, and Filter the Notes that are Migaku Japanese Sentence-a0c80, the reason you have to filter is that the deck has Migaku Japanese Sentence-a0c80 and Migaku Japanese Vocabulary-7a9c1, and you have to change the note type of both manually.
      2) select a card and then press cntr+a to select all cards then right-click and select change Note type and change it to either Migaku Japanese Sentence or Migaku Japanese Vocabulary, depending on what you want to change.
      3) without changing anything else press the Ok button and it should be solved. Hopefully.

    I think the addon is REALLY great if you want to study for the kanken test, but as for someone just beginning I think it is way behind decks like jp1k. Also, I think the video didn't explain what the actual method was, or maybe I didn't catch it, i'd be really great if you could explain that for me.
    Anyways keep up the work guys, you are great.

    • @stevijs3345
      @stevijs3345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The idea is pretty simple. You start of with around 50 kanji cards in RTK order so you can ease your way into it. Then you just connect the addon with a beginners deck, that optimally is made up of sentences in a 1T order and also introduces grammar. The addon then automatically creates the necessary kanji cards for the first X (you can define this) cards in the queue of that deck. This means that you always learn the necessary kanji a few days before they appear in your deck. So instead of doing nothing but kanji for a few months, you learn them alongside the rest. But still have the benefit of the divide and conquer tactic ala RTL, and all the benefits that come from it.
      You can also just continue using it, as the addon can scan all new cards you add to your deck and adds new kanji cards if they contain any kanjis you haven't yet learned.
      So the method so to speak goes away from the whole frontloading idea and changes to learning kanji alongside your normal progress in the language.

    • @delfost
      @delfost 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stevijs3345 Wow, seeing it that way I can see the benefit for pretty much everyone (Except for maybe advanced learners, unless they want to do the kanken test). Thanks for the response.
