Most people don't have a solid foundation in vocabulary or grammar to immerse. I think you should study till N4 and accquire a healthy vocabulary before reading, otherwise it can be just as fustrating immersing when your fundementals are weak.

Very true, I do feel like going through an N2 grammar book comparing grammar points after a point (ie when already pretty comfortably reading native stuff and already having seen the grammar in some form already) was a good decision though personally, even if only to make you aware of some points which you can then start noticing more acutely during reading. Using a J-J grammar book counts as immersion anyway in my book lol so why not

The sentence 先生に聞いたらすぐ分かった。 sounds much more naturally than the equivalent with と, as the latter makes it look like a naturalness, like everytime one would ask the teacher they'll always grasp things instantly, which I don't really believe was the intended message of the sentence.
So while both are grammatically correct, they serve a quite different nuance, so for the sake of completion it might have been a bit more correct to mark the と-sentence as something like 'semi-wrong' coherently, but yea, in your favor on the other hand, you're just mentioning there that learners are "feeling that something is different" - so just here to make that 'something' more explicitly.
