Enough with those narratives, Italy had the best chances in this game but somehow because Austria were better for 20-25 minutes out of 120, the perception is that Italy were close to losing. Embarrassing yes but Ireland aren't even a strong footballing nation as England. It's not our number 1 sport. England have had high expectations on their backs yet they have underperformed most of the time.
You're surely not comparing Ireland to England in terms of football? England has a huge world acclaimed league, invest hundreds of millions in football and a huge catchment population. Ireland has around five million people and rugby is by far the most popular sport. Ireland qualifying for and being competitive in past world cups and European championships was really the pinnacle of expectations for Ireland. It's not Roy Keane who is saying England have all the best players and are going to win the euros with ease
@seanq5223 so Keane can just bitch about England without any comeback? The population thing is so pathetic - you don't hear English people playing the population card when they lose at cricket to India - a country with 26 times as many people as England. Is there no Rugby played in England? If the Irish Love Rugby so much, then how come they've only won four grand slams and lost more games than they've won.

Back then, maybe. But not now. For starters we've had 4 Premier League teams in the Champions League final for 3 of the last 4 years. We've had world class managers tell the public that the Prem is the toughest league to compete in. It's the most funded league in Europe also.
Its 2021 and England against Italy in the final had less possession with 35%, less shots with 6 and shots on target with 2. Interesting way to look at things from another perspective. One would argue there hasn't been any progress.
Some bloke had a whole conspiracy about southgate's pragmatic style and it's frustrating me cos I forgot what he said and I can't find his comment🤣. Something to do with us conceding a goal and falling apart in the big games idk.
Well done to England u21s for winning world cup recently now if they can move on to senior side but I also say more English players in your top 5 clubs is a must to compete in champions league too many foreigners for me
Southgate actually knows what he’s doing. Anyone who thinks that getting to the semifinals in 2018 was a fluke is dead wrong. Roll on Euro 2021. ITS COMING HOME 🏴
@King FuckFace We lost because we got tactically exposed and had no creative midfielder to dictate the play. Nowadays we do, it's just about how solid we can be at the back. We won't win the tournament, but we'll be better equipped to face the bigger teams
@King FuckFace i'm talking about from the 2018 world cup to now. Players such as Maddison, Grealish, Foden etc. are all better and more creative players than the likes of Lingard and Alli
The thing is, he didn't have a very good squad selection available to him for 2018, but still he picked the best he had. I don't think Mclaren, Capello and Hodgson did the same.
So interesting to listen to Southgate in this. This is after the plan he brought out with the FA and the year before he started with the U21s and helped developed the English DNA which is now used at every level of coaching in this country. All of which tackles those issues. It is almost like when he says: "Not in 2 years time", he means: I have a plan which I am working on but I will need about 6 years for you to even start seeing any results.
I reckon he probably knew about unfit, average and overrated players being picked for the national team by the England managers at the time due to not having many good English players to pick from. As well as being much more careful with his squad selection, he has helped develop better English footballers, and you can see how they played much better under him.
Has to bee a foreigner cap on the Premier League, can see a time when there are no English players playing in the Prem. We got one of the best most exciting leagues but only because of the best foreign players at the big clubs. Young English players can hardly get a look in. How many English players are in Seria A or La Liga?
just because you get rid of a foreign player like aguero or pogba doesnt mean an english player is now gonna be as good as them. a foreigner cap will only reduce the quality of the league, wont make your national team any better. the cream will always rise to the top, look at players like rashford or sterling. foreign players didnt stop them from getting into their teams' starting 11 because they're talented.
It might force english teams to develop young players instead?. Look at La liga, the top 2 teams earn 80% of the total league revenue. In turn it forces the 'lesser' teams in the league to develop its own talent ie. athletic Bilboa
@@bare1330 Probably, but then as the quantity of English players in the EPL has been declining over time, there has to be a link. England managed to find quite a lot of good players for their teams in the 1990s and early 2000s and there were more English players in the EPL back then.
Stop being arrogant. Recognise that other players from other countries can kick ball. Relax and in so doing give the young people playing a chance to relax and give their best. I've seen some good players in recent years but they never seem to enjoy playing the game.
Well its easy being a pundit m8 you can literally say what you like but yeah southgate has done a good job with England overall I dont think we will win the euros tho m8? 😁😁
Looking back now it never occurred to me at the time just how poor the group of players were back then, most of the players with quality were way past their prime
And overrated too. Current crop of England players are far more comfortable on the ball and technically superior to supposed “golden generation” - That generation used to play hot potato with the football and looked petrified to be in possession of it and couldn’t wait to get rid of it. The current England side would smoke them, both technically and mentally. The Golden Generation was bullshit. Overhyped big names that used to get their arses handed to them whenever they met a good side. Put it this way, you never saw the likes of Barca or Real clamouring to sign these supposed superstars did you? - They were only (over)rated in England, not anywhere else.
They were piss poor because, the only good players available at the time were Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, John Terry and Ashley Cole and they were past their best, also Rooney was a striker and couldn't score at a world cup until 2014.
Game awareness isn't something that can be tought to 6 or 7 year olds, that isn't the solution at all, game awareness is something that comes with players analyzing their own games and styles.

It’s quite clear that of all the panel here, he is the most rational, considered pundit here and has honestly assessed England’s issues and how to fix them. We are seeing the results of this now
i think Southgate just wants to play Spqnish tiki taka, hmmmm thats how we were at 2018 world cup. Pochetino would be an awesome England manager, he knows how to util8se our best player in Kane. Perhaps he can manage Spurs and England at the same time
He has a point he said the youth has to be developed enough. Clearly youth players we have are showing that just need the right system in place to implement them as well as game time at club level. Give Gareth time, hodgson couldn't even beta Iceland for flip sake.
@@ay613 hahaha hes i agree with you they need time. Perhaps my problem is Southgates style but its football in general these days. @@Creees yh I would like to say we need more variance in our play. But we do need to improve our passing game that's kind of been the reason we've done rubbish take the game in the video or in general. Roy Hodgson just didn't have many options, the only decent players he had available were Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, John Terry and Ashley Cole. They were past their best and still Lampard wasn't in the squad. He was a crap manager but the fact that he didn't have a very good squad didn't help that either. Gareth Southgate sort of knows what he is talking about, he knew that he had fewer top level players available as England manager and likely made sure to pick the right ones for the squad.
Who remembers Wimbledon long ball and hard winning. Why don't England pick a team witch matches their playing style. Pick players that do the job in their position. Lampard and Gerrard were the same and didn't flow. Go back to spirit down to earth personalities. Scrappers and Jack Russel tacklers. Long ball and headers. Theres nothing more scary then a long ball into or near box for international games. Theres that nervousness attached to a defender in these games and more hiccups for a forward to pounce on.

Roy talking about England like he was some captain fantastic player for Ireland. Funny he didn't mention about himself walking out of his nation when we needed him, before a major tournament started.

One game. Remember how close Italy were to losing to Austria. I think the pressure got too much. But look at their games leading up to. It just looks such a different England than ever befoee
@@carlybishop6160 "how close" was that? A Marko Arnautovic "goal" which was miles offside? Enough with those narratives, Italy had the best chances in this game but somehow because Austria were better for 20-25 minutes out of 120, the perception is that Italy were close to losing.
As for England it's too easy to say it was "just one game" when that game happened to be the first time they were coming up against a technically superior opponent. The same would have happened earlier had the drawn not allowed them to avoid France, Spain and Belgium.
@@oldskoolmusicnostalgia England can keep the ball when they want to. I think England were lured into a false sense of control, that despite Italy turning up the heat, they could just keep defending and see out the game. In extra time when England had composed themselves slightly, they found themselves to be a bit more dominant on the ball.
England are a side that can dominate possession; but you need the right players on the pitch and a more attacking mentality. Had the game remained 0-0 for a longer period I think England would've had more of the ball.

What does Keane have to say about Ireland losing to Armenia, Luxembourg and Cyprus?
If the Irish Love Rugby so much, then how come they've only won four grand slams and lost more games than they've won.

keane "going down with cramp after an hour shows where the players are at... MENTALLY".
Is keane aware that cramp isn't a mental condition? It's the opposite You can be well up for it, raring to go, full of energy, but if your muscle involuntarily cramps up then you're done. It's not like you can think positively and the cramp will magically disappear.
I think he was implying that the players faked cramps becoause they were scared to play

Hes right about the media overrating the premier league
Why u saying this now after England have their best squad in years
Back then, maybe. But not now. For starters we've had 4 Premier League teams in the Champions League final for 3 of the last 4 years. We've had world class managers tell the public that the Prem is the toughest league to compete in. It's the most funded league in Europe also.
Someone had to say it, at least Gareth Southgate was completely honest.
I tell you what Southgate seems to know what he’s talking about … bit of a left field pick but maybe give him a go see how he does?

Its 2021 and England against Italy in the final had less possession with 35%, less shots with 6 and shots on target with 2.
Interesting way to look at things from another perspective. One would argue there hasn't been any progress.

@@66kaisersoza *Bilbao. Lol!
@@bare1330 Probably, but then as the quantity of English players in the EPL has been declining over time, there has to be a link. England managed to find quite a lot of good players for their teams in the 1990s and early 2000s and there were more English players in the EPL back then.

This Gareth Southgate guy could be future England manager and Euros finalist
