    Hey! Mr. Eric, I want you to know I appreciate your videos. I would like you to do a video on surface roughness & what that means. Is roughness corrosion or is roughness the metal finish? E.G. carbon steel vs stainless steel!

      Great suggestion! I'll add it to the list of upcoming videos. Mr.Eric

    Hello Mr. Eric your videos have been very helpful and I really appreciate your videos. Just wondering if you could show a draft report for this pipe/flange face? I find that one thing is doing the inspection and another is putting it into a report. Thank you!

    How do you assess corrosion to the bolt circle/outer flange ring? Min thickness as per B16.5?

    GSS isn’t entire width. Spiral wound is about 1/8” from outside and then going inwards 3/4-1” wide depending on width of gasket. Most of that corrosion is in stagnant zone. No need to worry that but I did notice considerable corrosion in the GSS. But yes, preferential corrosion in weld. Probably better off replacing the flange.

      @MrEric_API  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are correct, the GSS is not the entire surface of the machined gasket face. This flange set does use a wide ring, spiral wound gasket , I could be more clear on my explanation introducing the flange and piping.
      If you go back and watch the video, notice the area from 4 to 6 o clock. The corrosion was not just confined to the static zone, it was completely under gasket in the actual GSS, and deep. This piping was only 10 years old, oil service, and it was the first time it had been removed and inspected. Client had planned on another 10 year interval. Replacing this entire spool was the recommendation. The recommendation is not conservative, as the corrosion rate would likely have increased and would most likely had failed before the end of the next OOS interval.
      The exchanger channel it connected to was made into a video, it was found in worse condition.

    Yes! Thank you for the new video Mr.Eric. Love the videos! I keep getting asked on how to witness S/S and T/S exchangers. Where to look and how to look lol. If we had a video on this topic this would help a lot. I would just say watch this video from Mr.Eric haha. If you get time to make a video that would be great. Have a great 4th and stay safe!

      S/T and T/S exchangers?
      Explain more, and perhaps I will be able to make a video.....

      @willyscreation 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically a video of your normal visual inspection of a S/S and T/S hydro test. Explain what your looking for and where during each test.

    • @MrEric_API
      @MrEric_API  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Willy, I normally don't get involved with the hydrotests of an exchanger. Most of the places I have been working lately have either the QA guys buy it off, or the place does service test with process liquid and its simply a test for tightness without visible leaks and loss of pressures.
      I'll keep it in mind, if I get need an exchanger that is having a test, and make a video.

      I totally understand, no worries keep up the great work, again I love seeing inspections in our industry specially when the inspector is skilled and talented lol. Thanks for the videos.🤘

    What type of gasket is used for that flange and what product was transported through it?

    • @MrEric_API
      @MrEric_API  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A spiral wound graphite filled gasket, and Oil

    was this flange welded onto a pipe? it almost looks like the heat from the welding effected the hardness of the steel

    • @MrEric_API
      @MrEric_API  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris, Yes. It is a flange welded to a pipe spool. Flanges on both ends.
