What a dreadful title and a bit of a con.
I thought by the title it might be attacked by other buffalo or a predator, but eventually it stand up and walks away.
Almost clickbait that title in my opinion !

    • @Defender78
      @Defender78 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

the title is 100% spot on, it doesn't imply the calf was attacked. Such a title would read "Newborn calf abandoned and gets mealed by a Hyena".
Maybe YOUR the one who's clickbait!

Baby wasn't abandoned. Even domestic cows will leave their newborns while they go off to graze. The babies are "protected" by remaining very still. The other buffalo were just checking it out. They were actually quite careful in stepping around and over it. Still, held my breath for a while with those young bulls around.

It is a very hard life out there and even the ones who get right up and start moving have a good chance of not surviving. The mother is not stupid enough to waste resources on it when she can get pregnant and have one with good genetics that is worthwhile. That thing would very likely get her killed. It will provide a good meal for lions including their cubs which have a far higher mortality rate than any of the grazing animals. If it were a farm cow it would definitely be worth saving. They have a much easier life.

Ya dont know so much about buffy's . But they may have been just urging him to stand up ,hense her moving away and the bulls coming over to get him up ! He walked off pretty gopd as you say . Often times cows especailly oversized calves cant stretch their legs in the womb and are handicaped or just slow to walk because of being all doubled up inside the mom . Maybe something like this has happened ? Wonder how this played out over time ?

This Cape Buffalo Calf seemed to be getting ignored somewhat by its Dam. The young calf normally is lavished with love by the Mother. Thus when I saw the Bulls approach to sniff the young Calf. The Mother seemed indifferent. Then once up on its feet. Going to the hindquarters to find the teats to suckle. This Mother pulled away rather than remaining still and licking the calf. It may be she senses something amiss with her newborn. Thus not having the bond a Mother should have with her Calf. I hate to say it but this Calve will not survive if the Mother doesn't start to actually let it suckle and look after it. Normally great Mother's but they have instinctual senses about their offspring. Hopefully it will be ok. Such is life on the African Savannah. 💪🏼🙏🏻✨

Nature is beautiful and generous and ruthless, all animals know it, feel it, it is the most intelligent way of regulation.
How many lions have died from buffalo horns, hoof beating, even warthog beating, etc.? How many animals have died to defend their territory, their life, their young?
They all have the intelligence to continue despite everything.
The more I observe animals in nature, the more I learn to respect them.
The strong and intelligent survive, everyone remembers Notch and his sons, everyone knows the clever Lonkito, everyone knows the determined Makulu even Cecil, they survived, their story is wonderful, but life did not spare them.

I have yet to read anything as sinfully cruel as your statement. Do you share that calfs heartbeat, hunger, fear, longing for the nurturing from
its mother. . . .no, you do not. So you have NO right to even suggest that this precious calf is not worth its mothers protection or resources.
Spin in it any way you see fit. Your comment was despicable and inhumane.

@@robyndismon394 I'm not suggesting that this calf isn't worth its mother's protection or resources. I'm just stating the obvious fact that it is not worth it's Mother's protection or resources, which is why she walked away from it, even though the cow knew it would die.

The "ecosystem balance" shit is bullshit. No, the ecosystem will not he majorly disbalanced if lions go extinct. And if it did, we can always check the number of prey animals like we do in yellowstone for wolves and elkes. There is literally no real benefit of keeping big cats and big dogs. But we're spending millions of dollars so these predators don't go extinct. It's actually the lion that needs artifical boost to survive.
