Shoutout to the 2 Bocchi fans who still kept believing in her. Didnt stay stuck on their phones even at the start of the event, went through a hell of a storm to get there and they were the only ones dancing. Bless them.
The fact that she keeps her eyes on her guitar and doesn’t look at the audience is a great way to show that she’s still anxious but she’s comfortable enough to no longer feel the need to hide.
Looking down is her superpower. Who says she has to make eye contact? She's the super guitarist Guitar Hero! She makes eye contact through the music (Also, speaking of it I find it super funny how they said "Loine" "Issta" "Starnucks" as replacement names for those brands but then kept Guitar Hero 😅)
I can honestly relate to this as someone who struggles with general anxiety. Getting out of my comfort zone when i perform and still avoiding direct eye contact with the audience, but in the end feeling proud that I did the best I could in that moment. It's a great feeling
It's a small detail but I love that Hiroi immediately recognizes Bocchi's determination start up. She's the only person there not surprised, just happy that Bocchi is showing her true colors. She's a drunk but damn she's insightful.
Given she could see what was happening in episode 12 before anyone else (though I am not sure she predicted the Bocchi being Bocchi at that moment) she is incredibly perceptive to anything musical. Though in this case is probably the only one there (outside of the two fans) to see Bocchi playing the most freely within a group.
Something about having a completely still scene having its silence broken by a single character who takes the step forward, whether it be for music, confrontation, or anything else, always makes me feel something amazing.
They met a strange girl on the open street and loved her performance so much that they on the spot bought her tickets and braved through a typhoon to go to a club with like barely 10 people just to attend that awkward girl's concert. These two fans NEED to be appreciated and protected. I swear if these two aren't recurring fan characters having fun at every Bocchi performance moving forward I would be pretty upset 😅
@@sammydray5919 They show up in the ending episode too-though they do get to see Hitori/Bocchi's silly audience dive, they also see her improv the win of a solo after a string breaks and the other string peg's breaking.
Got tired of it at my 3rd attempt playing it. It's not that hard really, but I am really unused to those chords. I think I know what I am going to practise during the holidays. Really cool songs, totally outside of my comfort zone.
Bocchi's opening solo here is the moment Kita went from "I want to be in the band to be close to Ryo" to "I want to be in the band to help show everyone how cool Bocchi is". From here on out she stops fawning over Ryo and spends the rest of the show being Bocchi's hype man.
They did an amazing job on failing the song (weird to say that). Usually drums give the rythm and the band can follow tempo but in this case the drummer failed, Ryo was in her own world with the bass and Kita failed a few notes and couldnt decide to take tempo of drummer or Bocchi but if you listen closely Hitori actually is the only one without issues. I cant even describe how good of a bad performance that was! Its unreal...
Yeah, there is a video comparing the two versions of the first song, the one they played at the audition and the one they play at the gig. And we can hear it.
It's insinuated that Bocchi is playing way differently than normal by taking the band by surprise. She initiated an impromptu jam session where everyone has to accommodate how she's playing. They have to make little adjustments here and there to support the lead guitar. They do that really well, but Kita being so new to playing guitar is having the hardest time keeping up so she's constantly looking over to see what Bocchi is doing. That probably makes her feel a lot of pressure to improve, too.
We learn in the very first episode that Bocchi has trouble keeping her playing to time with the other band members, because she hasn't spent much time playing with others, even by Ep8 - but she knows with absolute surety that they *can* be better, and is determined to show the crowd "THIS is what we can do!", so she takes a leap, and drags the band along with her to show them what they can do together if they keep time with her, just this once. This opens Nijika's eyes to who Bocchi is at last, and with that realisation, she nods to the others to go with the flow. That single performance convinces Nijika "We *CAN* do this - we can be *GREAT*," and she tells Bocchi as much later.
@@hydroknight01 exactly!! It's a problem when one band member takes the lead and no one can keep up, but the usually shy and anxious bocchi taking that step made all of them realize they can keep up with her best perfectly and have fun doing it, so it completely changed their image of her, both the audience and the band. She's the hero of kessoku band, Bocchi the Rock!
Not sure about the "adjustments here and there" part. Bocchi just improv'd a new intro to the song. After that, its less about them "following" Hitori along with what they should know of the song, and more about them recovering from the mental shock of the flop they just did on the last song. They are aware they didn't do well. Hitori here just gave them a wake up slap with the solo. A amazing detail here, is that Kita's vocals are NOT the studio version of That Band. They are still a different recording used for this "live" and you can still hear her go off pitch and be slightly nervous. She has the most trouble syncing up with Hitori, and its visible through out the whole live that she's constantly looking over. Ryo and Nijika both just were in shock to hear bocchi take the lead like this and since they both already have experience playing live, they adapt rapidly to this, and while they are still nervous, which is visible by the sweat drops in their faces, they both should have little to zero trouble playing like they always do, since as soon as the song starts, they aren't in unknown territory. Hitori can add as many solos or fills in between, but the song is still "That Band" and should have little to no issue with just going along with the normal. Nijika is the one setting the tempo here. A common misconception is that Hitori is the one bringing the song along when in reality, she isn't. The song would be a mess if they did. Nijika and Ryo are both instantly woken up by Hitori taking the lead with the intro, and both proceed to play normally after that. Kita is the only one visibly pushed over and lead by Hitori, which makes sense since she always has to sync up with mainly Hitori, since she isn't playing only chords. There's some parts where she harmonizes with Hitori in multiple songs, so of course she would feel incredibly nervous to witness her taking a direct lead; she didn't know what to expect and did her best to follow through.
@@ren2089 Although it isn't stated in the anime, I like to think the ending bit of the song is actually Bocchi ad-libing as well. But yeah, she isn't "leading" the song.
i find it weird that no one is talking about how Nijika perked up a bit when Bocchi started actually playing like she usually does; that's when Nijika fully connected the dots with Bocchi's online persona being guitarhero
@@egnition8329the one thing that was pretty weird about this song is that Bocchi’s part is pretty hard. As I understand Ryo is the one that composed the song, so giving someone you think isn’t very good at guitar this part to play seems unwise
@@justass3001 I believe that it's because it's their second 'original' so they understood that she's good since she's got better at play along with them, which was Bocchi's actual struggle
Bocchi may be socially anxious and a dork most of the time, but here in this performance she shows courage and strength, acknowledging that their skills weren’t enough and saying “I refuse to let it stay this way!” while proceeding to absolutely give her all in the guitar, she was in this scene quite literally, a guitar hero.
I have to agree, Bocchi totally was the mvp in this concert. The others were so nervous they couldn't find together, and witnessing the most anxious of them perform like this must have massively boosted their courage and self confidence. Kudos to Bocchi the Guitar Hero.
@@velarmnt There's no doubt about that. The problem isn't lack of skills, it's the ability to play in front of many people. Bocchi can't even really talk to foreign people, and standing on stage being watched by an audience is even more terrifying to her. And then she even took the lead and improvised an intro all by her own. Nobody except for Hiroi thought she could ever pull that off.
The way she's characterized reminds me a lot of Michael Stipe of REM. He was so uncomfortable on stage early in his career that he would sing from behind the band with his back to the audience, but he could still put out some great performances.
I love how believeable her break in hesitation is too. She pushes through despite all her previously experienced attempts to stand out. However, Hitori makes sure to keep her head turned to the floor and focuses entirely on syncronising with the rest of Kessoku. I swear this anime is chock full of details but I'm too distracted by the comedy.
Something that I found very interesting was that, if you pay attention, Hitori is leading. She's the one who set the tempo, who sets the pace, and the rest of the group follows up on it. You can even see that Kita occasionally looks back to Hitori, almost like Kita's making sure she's still in Hitori's time. Always a scene worth watching.
Not many people was able to catch this. But you nailed it. Hitori made everything you said above, plus making Kita sing louder so she doesn't get overwhelmed by the guitar! This animation was terrific, so many details.
Adding to this: The mix of the first song is subtly disjointed and out of tempo etc. showing the nervousness all of them are having. Then Bocchi suddenly breaks out of her shell and proverbially snaps all of them out of their jitters when she starts her lead-in.
Goddman it. This is one of those 'perfect' scenes. The moment that nails absolutely every emotion on every level. You watch Bocchis' decision to take charge change absolutely everyone in the room, and it's sold 100%. Everyone in the crowd takes notice. Ryou feels the confidence in her band returning to her expectations, Kita has a dumbfounded expression of 'Who is this person?' as her own expectations are blown out of the water, and she spends the rest of the song mesmerized by Bocchis' talent. Nijika has the exact opposite reaction, but just as powerful a in the form of a realization as is Kitas' shock. While Kita wonders who Bocchi is, Nijika suddenly realizes that she's guitarhero. This plot point is revealed in the next scene but the expression on Nijikas' face says it all. It doesn't get much better than this.
Perfectly said. And I think this scene sets the precedent for the context behind "If I Could Be A Constellation", if the song were to be viewed to have come from Kita's perspective (though as we remember, Bocchi is the songwriter of Kessoku Band and Ryou is the composer - so it could also be seen as written from Bocch's perspective).
If you ever played with a band, you probably experienced something like this. That feeling when you're in the middle of the show and you know you and your mates can do better but you are in front of an audience that isn't even listening and you feel all this pressure... this show is reviving a lot of my traumas lol
And that's when you make the choice: rock it or forget it. And Bocchi has pride in her musicianship, trust in her ambitions and she makes the right choice even with all that pressure. Not everyone can do that... so she's a good role model for all beginning musicians out there... and even on some a bit seasoned ones.
I've felt this lol, I'm more of a bedroom player and one time my brother asked me to fill in for a show last minute (his bass player just quit). That was my second show ever and had crammed all the songs within 3 days .. I didn't make eye contact with anyone
This is by far the coolest performance I’ve seen in anime. The animation on the instruments, the lighting, the subtle movements of all the band members, everything just felt so goddam real and SO GOOD. This show is an absolute treat
the way the studio does it, is they rotoscope the performers but for Bocchi performances, they went even more out of their way to give detailed instructions to each performer in how they should act, then they draw over it with different tools to make those insane pov shots or unusual angles, it really ads a lot to the series
@@HaxeRain yeah I could definitely tell it was rotoscoped but yeah, I also read how they went the extra mile and gave detailed instructions to the performers. They’ve really gone above and beyond
I love how throughout the song, Bocchi moves as if she's not fully aware of what her body is doing. She moves lazily as if she's not really focusing on what is going on or she's delirious, like a puppet on cut strings. She's so focused on the song, on casting off her anxiety, and on making sure every note is exactly right that she straight up unconsciously stops giving full commands to everything but her hands. Her brain knows that the only thing that needs to be done is standing up, and her hands do the rest of the work.
Her tears always get me every time, I think it's a big symbol of confidence in visual media to let tears fall without reflexively stopping them or hiding them
that odd movement you see is just what happens when you get really into playing a song, just look at a guy like stevie ray vaughan or joe bonamassa and see how they move, its not exactly the same but you get the point
Then when the songs ends, she snaps back to reality and shakily turns round to Nijika to check her reaction, probably expecting the worst knowing how her mind works But she once again proved to be a real guitar hero that night
Imagine being a day one fan of a band member and going to their first proper show only for your favourite band member to carry the literal ENTIRE show on their back with a solo. I love those two goofballs ahah
It's kind of like that scene in That Thing You Do in the band's first performance where the FANTASTIC Drummer essentially goes "screw your slow ballad" and *unleashes* upon that drum set
@@thebighurt2495 or even in non anime renditions like in whiplash where the main character steals the show from the composer on the drums and practically controls the whole band out of sheer spite and pettyness ahah
@@P.E.Streams Fletcher's still in control if you think about it. He shaped Neiman in his own image and "wins" in the end after creating his own Charlie Parker.
Funny enough the way early listeners talk about Jimi Hendrix is how I expect those two to talk about bocchi. Gotta see it live to experience greatness 😁
She doesn't say a word, but you can *feel* her basically plead with the others to follow her lead this time when she just starts rocking out and I love it
As someone who was in band, you really don't hear the audience. You're one unit with the rest of the crew and too focused as adrenaline is rushing through you that you want to do your best and Bocchi took that charge to lead her band members. So real and so GOOD.
Its just like me with wrestling. You are literally surrounded by hundreds of people screaming, cheering, and booing but you don’t hear a sound; only your coach and your opponent.
By far the best portrayal of an indie rock band in anime, bar none. Not just this scene, the whole anime too. For any aspiring guitarist, bassist or drummer, this will feel very real.
@@kayakosaeki4967 I picked my guitar back up when i watched bocchi about 8 months ago or whenever the season ended. i now i have been taking lessons and have 4 guitars XD. Been very rewarding
A wonderful detail is one you need a set of headphones to catch. Bocchi is tracked WAY to the right at the start of the song, while everyone else is center-left. Both Bocchi and the rest of the band slowly move together over the course of the song, until by the time Bocchi hits the final solo, they are all in their correct places.
Love how she finally cuts lose, shows how good she really is. The rest of the band has to kick up their game to match her intensity and playing. Beautifully done!
She puts 'Bocchi' aside for a moment, and becomes 'guitarhero' - and Nijika *sees* it. Hiroi sees it too, but not knowing who 'guitarhero' is, she simply sees Bocchi's true talent, and knows, "She just dialled it up to 12, now we're gonna see it."
@@hydroknight01 I know I've said it elsewhere in this comments section, But I love how Hiroi is portrayed in Bocchi. She's drunk and unstable, but really when you look deeper she's the most insightful empathetic musical genius in the show. She knows talent when she sees it
That was the exact feeling I got watching this amazing show. The whole time she was pulling her punches in regards to how good she was with a six-string.
It’s such an amazing feeling to see Bochi slowly opening up,makes me feel like a proud dad watching my daughter getting over the things that used to trouble me as well (and some of them still kinda do)
There's an insane amount of details here haha, but that one is one of the nicer ones. Check Kita, she's actually looking at Bocchi out of the corner of her eye during most of their performance. Ryu's hand drops from her bass as soon as she realizes Bocchi 's gonna go on her own. And the whole way Bocchi moves even when she's in the background. I can't tell you how many times I've watched this episode already lol I know exactly where in the progress bar both their songs are and where her conversation with Nijika is haha
I've never been so hooked to an anime of this genre and this song is just so catchy i can't stop listening to it... you can see the Audio team, voice actors, animation team, ect. put their hearth and soul in this episode and the anime as a whole
Light board operators for venues like this do almost everything as improv to some degree. They'll make lots of presets, effects, and submasters -- maybe even cues -- but in the end it's all done live. Live shows virtually never go 100% to plan, so human operators are necessary on all critical venue infrastructure, i.e. sound board, light board, projection board, etc.
I think one key important fact that im very impressed the anime caught with the characters in this situation. Is that the entire time Bochi is the stage energy. As inexperienced as she and the others are with being a band if theres one thing Bochi at least understands even unconsciously its how to have stage presence and control the energy of the crowd. And you can see it in how the crowds energy shifts the moment Bochi gets going. The other thing is how naturally her band picks up the energy even though they seem totally lost and bewildered at first. Lots of good details they caught in this scene that make it incredible.
I love the way that Bocchi curls up as she plays her guitar like a woman possessed. In this moment, when normally she’d be so cripplingly mortified about how she appears in front of so many people, she lets go of all of her anxieties and loses herself to the music. Ironically, this is the moment she captures the crowd-when she casts away all her pretenses, her desire for attention, her self-consciousness-that’s when she becomes the rock star she dreams of becoming. That’s when her cool side emerges into the spotlight, and Bocchi doesn’t even realize it. I love the way the cinematography emphasizes the way Bocchi captures the attention of the crowd and her band mates. She’s in almost every shot, mostly captured from low angles, as if towering over everyone even hunched over as she is. The blocking places her higher in the frame relative everyone else, emphasizing her stage presence. Even in the few shots of the band that don’t feature her somewhere in the shot, Kita herself is almost always sneaking a glance towards Bocchi’s direction, which both reinforces her dominating presence and provides us with insight into Kita’s character-namely that she admires Bocchi very much and pays close attention to her musical talents. Such an impeccably well done scene.
@@scumbag9793 Couldn't have said it better myself. And you can also see Kita's, nervousness well painted on her face as well as her voice sounding shaky. Ryo looks more amazed that Gohtoh san is capable of this, there's really an absolute amount of detail here.
This part made me cry. I’m a musician and I have social anxiety. Seeing Bocchi break loose for that split second gave me a rush of emotions that I couldn’t control. I’ve been on a stage to where everything went wrong and I’ve had moments where it all clicked.
Ultimate ability: Bocchi The Rock! Hitori momentarily casts off her inhibitions and delivers a demonstration of godly musicality, empowering all bandmates to follow in her mighty wake. Everyone within Audience range is Stunned for the duration. Cooldown: at least several days
1:26 this shot is too real. My first performance was exactly like this. Eyes down, focused on the sounds I was making and giving it all I had out of nervousness but obligation. The crowd didn't exist for me and if I acknowledged it did I would have choked.
Its funny to think that eventually, you end up again in this POV long after youve overcome that initial stage anxiety, in the moment you just slide into "the zone" when that pure energy hits and it's just you and the soundwave energy you are creating and you are as close to your instrument as is legally allowed lol
i relate to this anime SO MUCH despite never having played a guitar. I have played in concert band and marching band quite a bit, though, and I definitely related to that shot just staring down at the floor, not wanting to even glance at the crowd
That's the idea. Everyone was nervous, but Bocchi rallied them all together and made them play at the top of their game. It's a really cool instance of actions speaking louder than words.
I love the amount of rotoscoping they used and how natural it looked. Almost every scene has some and it looks so freaking good! I also can't get enough of how realistic the band "failing" is
Dude, I did this IRL with my band, It was our first "performance" Just like the girls of the kessoku band, I wasn't in front of a massive crowd, but in our hearts it felt sizable. I decided to stop worrying about how I sounded, and figured for my guys on stage I was gonna just rip out everything I had, after all, it was a 4 min song and we only could play one. I had been playing guitar for over 2-3 years before the anime came out, but I gotta say its had a lasting impact.
Are they? I'm not 100% sure, I know Blue Planet were her lyrics, and the lyric video reflected that. In this case the lyric video depicts Ryo next to the railroads, and we've seen her going to the store just to listen to music. I think this song relates more to Ryo and the lyrics were written by her. But I could be wrong lol
@@veerooz Ryo writes the song. Bocchi writes the lyrics. If that's how it was for the first song then there's no reason to believe it changed for this song.
@@jackmanleblanc2518 I do think it changed for this particular song considering: The 3rd and 4th song lyrics' are really upvibe and positive and I don't see Bocchi writing that, I personally think those could be Kita's words. And on the official single art for "If I could be a constellation", Kita is the one depicted. Same with "That Band", the person we most see going to the store and listening to music is Ryo, and on the official lyric video we see her next to the train station, the same thing happening on the lyrics. The 3rd song "Never forget" talks about some feelings, some of them about the school years, and on the lyric video we see Nijika jumping on her school, so I guess she wrote that one (not bocchi, for sure; she doesn't like going to school). Again, I don't have any proof of these statements, lol
@@jackmanleblanc2518 no you were right. The lyrics in particular are based around what bocchi felt in not only this moment, but the moments that she was inspired in the past. No reason for that to not be the case here. It’s a reflection not a literal story.
1:32 This extremely short 7 frames cut of Hitori is seriously fantastic in every single way. I don’t fully know if she’s tearing up, her eyes seem to suggest it with the water droplets in the air. If so, you don’t really consciously notice it, but sub-consciously it makes it all feel so much more important for her. She’s giving it absolutely everything to continue her dream.
It's either sweat (really likely considering indoor venues sometimes especially when you've already been playing a bit) or tears like you mentioned. Hard to say though so I'ma just go with your idea cause I like it better :')
Episode 8 caused me to go back and rewatch all 8 episodes all over again twice just to see what I was foolish enough to miss the first time. Needless to say it was a lot more than I realized. It just gave me an even better appreciation for this anime. I loved K-ON! ... this is K-ON! on steroids as far as I'm concerned and this song is the best anime song I've heard this year period. Maybe over the past few years. I'm gonna be 56 years old soon but music like this will always keep the kid in me going. Bless those who decided to turn that 4 panel into this anime.
@@PatrickPereiraVieira04 Oddly enough I didn't start watching Bocchi for the music ... I had no idea it was even a show that had music included in it. Once I heard the band, though, it changed my outlook on the show. Especially the song That Band. I am hooked on it. I haven't watched Ya Boy Kongming as it isn't my cup of tea (I didn't know that was about music, either). I did know the main character was based off Zhuge Liang from RoTTK fame, though, but that isn't enough to interest me. I prefer my past in the past in this particular case. Yeah, I played the hell out of a number of the games and did research on the later Han Dynasty as well. Ok ... after listening to a few Ya Boy Kongming songs I'd still pass on it. I won't pretend to be musically inclined personally (although I did own a guitar that looked just like the one Bocchi has but a different color) but I'll take Bocchi all day. We will simply have to agree to disagree. Thanks for putting me onto some other music, though. Shame it isn't more to my liking.
@@PatrickPereiraVieira04 also, if we're talking about being "better from a musical standpoint" sakamichi no apollon comes to mind, but no need to compare really
Boom Boom Satellites could have been here as well. If only one of the singers didn’t have a brain tumor and didn’t pass away. Which caused the rest of the band to split up as a show of honor. Watching “Lay Your Hands on Me”, that was released after his passing, and in the music video of which his daughter stars, is pretty heartbreaking.
Ngl I was crying the whole time of the performance. Bocchi bursted an amazing opening out of nowhere and lifted the whole team's spirit up shows that she is trying to overcome her anxiety and unconfidence. This whole scene hit me really hard and literally tear me up.
That’s how the tears had me in episode 5 from the moment her foot hit the floor and she started killing it. I wanted to watch episode 8 by myself because I felt like I would cry again and got roped into watching it with a group. But it’s so good I think I’m gonna go rewatch where I left off on my own
Their whole concert bit is by far the best moment in any animeme this year. Starting with the perfectly mixed first song to sound completely off without being super obvious in order to convey the band's nervousness to Bocchi's moment here and absolutely shredding throughout the whole song.
this anime dropped out of nowhere, no one knew this was being produced, it's not from one of the top animation studios out there, yet it is just a piece of work. props to the team behind the creation of this masterpiece
I also heard that many top tier animators and voice actors kept checking in to work on this before it even got picked up like hey if this show gets green lit, tell me kind of stuff lol
Studio CloverWorks made Bunny Girl Senpai, Horimiya, Shadows House, My Dress-Up Darling, and Bocchi the Rock, not to mention they're one of the two studios making Spy x Family. Even without Bocchi, CloverWorks is a heck of a great studio -- absolutely one of the top animation studios out there right now.
This song single handedly revived my love for music. I was so depressed, so empty, anytime anything musical would come on it would immediately make me sour ( whether i liked the music or not. ) I hated living like that. Sure i had ample reason to be depressed, ample reason to be jealous, ample reason to give everything i loved up, but this song is so inspiring i couldnt repress my feelings anymore. The song just overflows with emotion and it brought me back down to earth, and the intro bocchi does is such a perfectly fitting cherry on top to this beautiful song. And even more the street performance version is amazing too, I hope one day I can be as talented as either Ryo or Kikuri. Well done.
I love the fact that this showed everyone that Bocchi is actually a amazing person if she doesn’t get in her own way. In the first song Bocchi’s mind was thinking about everything but in this song her mind is 100% silent just the song, it wasn’t until after she finished that the doubt came back.
Very well said. She was picking up the jitters of the whole band in the first song and went with a hard lead-in in an attempt to cast them off. The rest of the band knew they had to match her, and it was probably to their relief that she went in.
BRO, AS SOMEONE WHO HAS PERFORMED IN FRONT OF PEOPLE, THE FIRST TIME THAT I PERFORMED AS A RYTHMIC GUITAR I WAS LOOKING TO THE GROUND JUST AS BOCHI DOES! THAT CAMERA ANGLE IS SO REALISTIC!
Funny how Bocchi is the only band member who actually has real fans. They only saw her once at her street performance and came to the concert despite the terrible rainstorm that was going on
Same. I was expecting much less since all I've seen was the glitching clips and stuff. I hope they can keep up with the awesome work and finish this show good.
i just realized the thing that sparked her determination was thinking about those two fans that came to the show… i’m genuinely crying bocchi’s got such a good heart 😭😭😭
i wouldnt say concern but more cus of shock plus keeping time since Bocchi is the one leading and marking the time of the song compared to how Nijika did in ep 5 or should done in their first song
@@HaxeRainisn’t this literally what they said also what do you mean by marking the time? if you mean setting the time nijika sets the tempo after bocchi does her solo thing
I am glad this anime got the attention it deserved. Truly the gem of the season. This series has everything perfect, from so much relatable characters (that sometimes it feels like Bocchi has turned into me), Kami animation with so much fun and creativity, Kami voice acting, amazing plot and Kami music with Kami-sense of direction. CloverWorks has poured so much love into this series. This series has took a special place in my heart. Truly a Diamond.
After watching this scene countless times, I just notice the subtle way that Kita keeps looking at Bocchi during this performance. It was clear that Bocchi was dictating the pace and was leading her bandmates so they can be synchronize together. Kita as the Rhythm guitarist was following Bocchi's pace, hence the constant starring. This anime really put too much attention to details.
Its crazy cause every time she shows up for Bocchi its to deliver godlike support and advice. Even later in this episode when Bocchi freaks a bit about being a Neet. Hiroi heard that from the other end of the table and ends up coming over to Bocchi to talk about it. Hiroi is best girl.
I absolutely adore Kikuri and, despite being drunk 24/7, how supportive and aware she is about Bocchi's talent! She never seem even remotely surprised whenever Bocchi does some crazy improvisation, because she's already that confident in her
The last time that I was amazed and totally love a music performance in a anime was Hibike! Euphonium and became one of my fav anime Bocchi the Rock gave me the same feeling when I saw this scene and my ears where pleased by this incredible performance The show is amazing since episode 1 in term of comedy, characters and music and I can't wait to see the last performance but it's gonna be sad seeing this masterpiece end
The thing that makes this series stand out so much from initial assumptions of Cute Girls Doing Cute Things is that Bocchi actually has amazing character growth.
Kikuri is amazingly perceptive. I dont think her being an airhead is an act, I think it's a genuine part of her personality. But that doesn't mean you have to be dumb either though, it can just mean you are absent minded and get carried away. Had she not held that outdoor event with Bocchi, those two would have never shown up, and Bocchi might not have done what she did. Not to mention she never looked suprised at how good Bocchi actually was nor did she ever not have faith in them, she seemed confident they could do it. She's an interesting character. And I hope she can share the time for Bocchi later on because I get the feeling that Kikure might be the only one who could truly understand her and that she might not always have been so outgoing and confident. Even if that is not the case, she clearly can understand her enough to subtly manipulate her in a good and positive way.

I love how everyone, including her bandmates is surprised by Bocchi, except for Kikuri, who is just like "yep, that's my girl"
Bocchi's opening solo here is the moment Kita went from "I want to be in the band to be close to Ryo" to "I want to be in the band to help show everyone how cool Bocchi is". From here on out she stops fawning over Ryo and spends the rest of the show being Bocchi's hype man.

God the first song hurt cause it actually sounded like they were off tempo, props to the team doing that!

This anime is a work of art. So much love and effort poured into it.
The name Bocchi ❤❤ is too cute ❤❤
Ikr! They did an amazing job with this art!💯
tbh, the gutitar animation wasn't that good
@@Hungry_God no noe was talking about animation and it was still pretty good?
I didn’t think it was that bad. At least when she goes up and down the fretboard it’s accurate to what she’s playing
@@maxinesenior596 truly the guitarhero she is indeed
Everyone in the club when the solo started: 😮
Hiroi: 😊
i find it weird that no one is talking about how Nijika perked up a bit when Bocchi started actually playing like she usually does; that's when Nijika fully connected the dots with Bocchi's online persona being guitarhero
And until this point, nijika and ryou thought she was bad at guitar lol
@@A._Meroy well practicing 6 hours a day for 3 years straight can definitely give you insane skills.
I love it when Bocchi just went “it’s Bocchi time” and Bocchi’ed all over the stage. Truly one of the best anime of 2022

She's bocchering the whole stage
maybe in 2023 we can stop doing this same comment on every single video
Something that I found very interesting was that, if you pay attention, Hitori is leading.
She's the one who set the tempo, who sets the pace, and the rest of the group follows up on it. You can even see that Kita occasionally looks back to Hitori, almost like Kita's making sure she's still in Hitori's time.
Always a scene worth watching.
Awesome catch, you’re totally right!
Not many people was able to catch this. But you nailed it. Hitori made everything you said above, plus making Kita sing louder so she doesn't get overwhelmed by the guitar!
This animation was terrific, so many details.
We know that.
Adding to this: The mix of the first song is subtly disjointed and out of tempo etc. showing the nervousness all of them are having. Then Bocchi suddenly breaks out of her shell and proverbially snaps all of them out of their jitters when she starts her lead-in.
gotta love the sheer amount of hindsight bias in this reply section
Can we just admire the person running the light and sound board who managed to catch up with Bocchi and work with her pace?
Well said.

I felt the same vibe, good observation
Her tears always get me every time, I think it's a big symbol of confidence in visual media to let tears fall without reflexively stopping them or hiding them
Sounds like it’s coming from experience 👀
that odd movement you see is just what happens when you get really into playing a song, just look at a guy like stevie ray vaughan or joe bonamassa and see how they move, its not exactly the same but you get the point
Then when the songs ends, she snaps back to reality and shakily turns round to Nijika to check her reaction, probably expecting the worst knowing how her mind works
But she once again proved to be a real guitar hero that night

They'll make lots of presets, effects, and submasters -- maybe even cues -- but in the end it's all done live.

Its funny to think that eventually, you end up again in this POV long after youve overcome that initial stage anxiety, in the moment you just slide into "the zone" when that pure energy hits and it's just you and the soundwave energy you are creating and you are as close to your instrument as is legally allowed lol

Remember, these are Bocchis words; so this song means a lot to her
@@jackmanleblanc2518 I do think it changed for this particular song considering:
The 3rd and 4th song lyrics' are really upvibe and positive and I don't see Bocchi writing that, I personally think those could be Kita's words.
@@veerooz I guess that does make sense. Poor Bocchi might not be able to handle the pressure if she had to write the lyrics for every song lol
@@jackmanleblanc2518 no you were right. The lyrics in particular are based around what bocchi felt in not only this moment, but the moments that she was inspired in the past.
No reason for that to not be the case here. It’s a reflection not a literal story.

This extremely short 7 frames cut of Hitori is seriously fantastic in every single way.
I think thats sweat droplets from the effort...
Pretty likely it‘s sweat, standing in the spotlight is both nerve-wrecking and physically just HOT
@@mambe4349 they're tears, you can see the drops at the bottom corners of her eyes
@@maxinesenior596 aren’t those the high lights?
Episode 8 caused me to go back and rewatch all 8 episodes all over again twice just to see what I was foolish enough to miss the first time. Needless to say it was a lot more than I realized. It just gave me an even better appreciation for this anime.
I loved K-ON! ... this is K-ON! on steroids as far as I'm concerned and this song is the best anime song I've heard this year period. Maybe over the past few years. I'm gonna be 56 years old soon but music like this will always keep the kid in me going. Bless those who decided to turn that 4 panel into this anime.
This was cool but Paripi Koumei is much better from a musical point of view
YES
K-ON walked so Bocchi the Rock could run.
@@PatrickPereiraVieira04 also, if we're talking about being "better from a musical standpoint" sakamichi no apollon comes to mind, but no need to compare really
I actually can’t believe that Kana-boom, ZAQ, The Peggies, and Asian Kung-fu Generation all worked on this show. That’s pretty epic.
AKG worked on the show? Damn that's amazing.
Those two Bocchi fans are a national treasure and should be cherished
Ngl I was crying the whole time of the performance. Bocchi bursted an amazing opening out of nowhere and lifted the whole team's spirit up shows that she is trying to overcome her anxiety and unconfidence. This whole scene hit me really hard and literally tear me up.
I didn't even make it to the performance. When Drunk-chan came in first, before anyone else, it stabbed me right in the heart.
That’s how the tears had me in episode 5 from the moment her foot hit the floor and she started killing it. I wanted to watch episode 8 by myself because I felt like I would cry again and got roped into watching it with a group. But it’s so good I think I’m gonna go rewatch where I left off on my own
somethin about this show turns me into such a baby...
"Not from one of the top animation studios out there"
It's animated by CloverWorks who has been one of the top animation studios for a long time.
Studio CloverWorks made Bunny Girl Senpai, Horimiya, Shadows House, My Dress-Up Darling, and Bocchi the Rock, not to mention they're one of the two studios making Spy x Family. Even without Bocchi, CloverWorks is a heck of a great studio -- absolutely one of the top animation studios out there right now.
cloverworks is arguably the studio with the most animation talent in the anime world right now.
My dude Cloverworks is literally the best studio when it comes to slice of life anime. Well maybe just behind, Kyoto Animation
Well done.
Ayo homie, we living
1:48 I love Kikuri's subtle movement that she does so much
0:14 "I reject your reality and substitute my own!"
Literally!
Bocchi was like: *I WILL NOT LIVE IN A REALITY WHERE WE SUCK!*
Everyone else except Hiroi: "Am I missing an eyebrow?".
Where have I heard that before?
“Nice! Dungeonmaster!”
@@polarispmWhat? No, Mythbusters
Gives me chills every time 🫡
1:34 Their 2 little heads bopping up and down is just ❤
BRO, AS SOMEONE WHO HAS PERFORMED IN FRONT OF PEOPLE, THE FIRST TIME THAT I PERFORMED AS A RYTHMIC GUITAR I WAS LOOKING TO THE GROUND JUST AS BOCHI DOES! THAT CAMERA ANGLE IS SO REALISTIC!
the 2 girls fan of Bocchi are so wholesome and cute
Funny how Bocchi is the only band member who actually has real fans. They only saw her once at her street performance and came to the concert despite the terrible rainstorm that was going on
@@A._Meroy Well, if she used her online fandom she could have even more. So, yes, she was always the most popular of the bunch, albeit secretly.
bocchi finally used 10% of her power
I am so glad i decided to give this show a watch. Such a gem hidden within all the diamonds this season
Same. I was expecting much less since all I've seen was the glitching clips and stuff. I hope they can keep up with the awesome work and finish this show good.
0:20 is the best moment. It's the exact moment Nijika discovers who guitarhero is.

I religiously come back to this clip to feel something
i just realized the thing that sparked her determination was thinking about those two fans that came to the show… i’m genuinely crying bocchi’s got such a good heart 😭😭😭
This is the definition of carrying the team on your back, Bocchi was so good everyone was in shock
I thought Kita was looking at Bocchi with concern but shes just looking at her to help keep time
i wouldnt say concern but more cus of shock plus keeping time since Bocchi is the one leading and marking the time of the song compared to how Nijika did in ep 5 or should done in their first song
Truly a Diamond.
just say god, lol
Seeing her two fans look devastated in the beginning breaks my heart 😢
After watching this scene countless times, I just notice the subtle way that Kita keeps looking at Bocchi during this performance. It was clear that Bocchi was dictating the pace and was leading her bandmates so they can be synchronize together. Kita as the Rhythm guitarist was following Bocchi's pace, hence the constant starring. This anime really put too much attention to details.
i love how hiroi instanly knew that she was about to go in
Its crazy cause every time she shows up for Bocchi its to deliver godlike support and advice. Even later in this episode when Bocchi freaks a bit about being a Neet. Hiroi heard that from the other end of the table and ends up coming over to Bocchi to talk about it.
Hiroi is best girl.
@@pretentiousname01 Hiroi went from "This is a funny girl" to "This girl is the real deal" when Bocchi opened her eyes on the street concert.
As a guitarist myself I feel this whole emotions this anime transfers
This solo is hard to play corretly like she do

This is what every shonen anime wants you to feel when the hero overcomes adversity, but Bocchi does it better
this moment is so emotionally cathartic, its just amazing
This was the build up of the show up to that point. They got it perfect.
I absolutely adore Kikuri and, despite being drunk 24/7, how supportive and aware she is about Bocchi's talent! She never seem even remotely surprised whenever Bocchi does some crazy improvisation, because she's already that confident in her
The solo should've been included in a soundtrack album.
One thing that really gets me here, and in their performances in general - When they're locked in, Ryo's exactly as good as she says she is.
The last time that I was amazed and totally love a music performance in a anime was Hibike! Euphonium and became one of my fav anime
Bocchi the Rock gave me the same feeling when I saw this scene and my ears where pleased by this incredible performance
The show is amazing since episode 1 in term of comedy, characters and music and I can't wait to see the last performance but it's gonna be sad seeing this masterpiece end
Hibike Euphonium is the music band anime K-On should have been.
Bocchi the Rock is the rock music anime K-On should have been.

The thing that makes this series stand out so much from initial assumptions of Cute Girls Doing Cute Things is that Bocchi actually has amazing character growth.
Kita has got a lot of talent doing both instrumental and vocals not to mention learning both in such a short time
Kikuri is amazingly perceptive.
Even if that is not the case, she clearly can understand her enough to subtly manipulate her in a good and positive way.
spoiler alert she is
This aged really well lol
