    Can you voice control things that have a seperate power button and no remote? Eg: a pc, a lamp with a switch, etc? Because those would just allow power, but not actually turn on without clicking the physical power button, correct?

    Have you ever looked into using Home Assistant in tandem with the Alexa system? I just got into it and its pretty life changing if you're in to home automation. I bet you could have A LOT of fun with it! If you're creative it can really up the "smartness" of a smart home and really make you feel like you're living in the future

    • @swordmaidengaming2262

      Just an example of the sort of fun little things you can do with it: when my GPS location changes to "home" AND I trigger the front door contact sensor within the next 2 minutes, Alexa welcomes me home out loud, turns on the TV and loads up a fireplace video, and asks if I'd like her to start a pot of coffee 😆

    What if it doesnt have a remote and it doesn’t turn on as soon as you plug it in though? Like the “game over light” or the “PlayStation icons light”, when you plug them you need to manually press the button to turn them on and they dont have a remote

    • @FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE
      @FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So if you run into a gadget like that it's pretty hard to automate. If you hold down the button while plugging it in, does that turn it on? If so, you could find a way to keep the button permanently pressed down and then you've solved the issue.

    I'm curious how you automate your PC turning on. That's one thing I haven't thought of a good way to do. Mine just has one button that toggles the power so even if i had it plugged into a smart switch, it would still need the button to be physically pressed. I thought about trying a switchbot but have yet to order one and they're not cheap so if there's a better way I'd love to know

    • @swordmaidengaming2262
      @swordmaidengaming2262 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IcekissGaming I suppose that's a better approach than nothing. I just try not to leave my PC running over night so my monitor is rarely off while the computer itself is on. And switchbot might be an easy approach but I also worry about hard restarting it by accident and damaging my HD over time.
      I feel like I heard Paul Hibbert a long time ago, mention some program he used to send wake up commands to his PC but I can't remember what video it was in 😔 and I don't know if that works for true "power on" commands since you'd need it to have some amount of power already for the terminal to work.

    • @FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE
      @FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey guys, So to answer the question - My pc is already on, and is typically running 24/7, so I don't automate that, I'm sure there's a way to do it if you really wanted too, but it's somewhat redundant imo, if your going to use your PC chances are your clicking buttons and such anyhow! One thing I am going to do though is add smart plugs to the monitors for when I want them to shut off immediately instead of waiting for the computer to idle for a bit and shut them down for power saving mode.
