Your archeology book changed my father in law's life: he's been reading his Bible since Christmas. We then bought him your book for Father's Day.
Formerly away from the Lord, he now believes every Word in the Bible is true.
He excitedly stated: 'it's true, it's true! Every Word in the Bible is true!'
    Thank you Joel❤

Seeing how that sulfur burns down really helps understand why it would be so devastating for it to rain down on a place. Not because of explosive impacts as depicted in movies in shows, but rather constant burning that actually moves around as it melts down.

There's a video that speaks of a record of nearby civilization recorded a meteor explosion in that time and that the burning sulfur rained down raising the temperature to over 2000° which burned everything quickly. Some pottery was noted that was melted on one side from intense heat.

I have a feeling there was quite a bit of explosion. Those sulfur balls seem like they are something from a larger scale. All the houses would have needed something greater than some golfball size sulfur.

This verse seems to show that the ark ceased to exist and that it has no more importance. Can't state that as an absolute but it is a curious verse. Maybe God had it destroyed or hidden so well it cannot be found. Time will tell. Take care and keep studying God's Word.

It's the same with Melchizedek, the King of Salem mentioned right after this battle at the Valley of Siddim. Here we have _ages_ before the establishment of the Levites, is a Canaanite King that is a Priest of God. He gives blessing and food to Abraham (then still Abram) and asks for nothing in return, while Sodom's king shortly after demands slaves and tries to catch Abraham into a debt.
In the New Testament, Jesus is talked about as being of the priestly order of Melchizedek, and we are also called to be of that order.

I see His beauty in different ways, He teaches me things that build my love and appreciation for Him.

@@michaelhaigh9182 You missed the points I made entirely.
      1) God judges our hearts, our intents.
      2) "His Name" in the Lord's Prayer in the original Aramaic is shown by Jesus to encompass all his aspects.
Look deeper and be blessed. It is not about the name as you perceive it. And then pray from your heart for understanding.

Good to learn that Paul's wife, Nancy Lapp, largely completed the archaeological work (in 2019) that he and others started with Albright. Nancy is now 93-94. A wonderful testimony of commitment and faithfulness to the work.

So thankful for God's using you to show us the true facts of the Bible through your archaeological explorations! Decades of years ago when I began my reading the Bible, I thought all those cities or places could not be traced to be found since they were of thousands of years ago. But God keeps using the Biblical archaeological evidences to show me that He has His miraculous ways, especially the archaeological one, to tell us the right answers which we have thought to have no way to get.

I've always wondered where Zoar was in relation to the other cities that were burning. This means it was definitely a precision strike and not a random one.
The scary part for me is that their depravity was so horrendous that God had to intervene. Which makes me wonder how bad this world will get before Jesus returns.
Let's pray that all believers will remain in the faith and the lost will find Jesus.

I don't want to imagine how much worse it was back then, but unfortunately, we seem to head, closer and closer in that direction.

Precision strike -- same thought I had, and they changed their plan according to Lot's request. That's amazing. Of course, Yah already knew that Lot would ask that, but I always like this kind of accommodation from our Creator & His good angel team.
I really began speculating why the cave and not the small city? In my study of older editions of the English Bible (Wycliffe, Tyndale, Matthew's, Geneva) I glean a lot more meaning. I came to the following possibility, based on the wording, which is just less whitewashed than even the KJV -- that being that Lot WAS sodomized, very possibly, in trying to protect the angels.
The way Wycliffe's Bible reads, for example, I feel that we can reasonably speculate that those evil men, that just about crushed Lot at his door, actually sodomized him as they said they would. This would explain why both he and his daughters wouldn't dare to live (after all) in the Sodomite town of Zoar; it helps explain how desperate his daughters actually felt not to continue in the world, as childless women, given that the nearby men weren't anything like normal men at all -- by their behavior.
And frankly, Lot lost his nerve. I'm sure he did go into Zoar at the first -- perhaps believing the grateful people of Zoar would be easily convinced to repentance considering the destruction all around them -- and the testimony he had. When they didn't repent, and perhaps even attacked or robbed them or both, Lot wanted out.
Taking this to its logical conclusion that those sons born from Lot's daughters actually went on to survive and thrive, I began wondering where the daughters found wives for their sons -- wondering if they were able to "buy" them from slavers etc. We know that the boys went out from there -- to the east and north and acquired lands, and were blessed -- so they had to have gotten wives from somewhere. Interesting thing to speculate on.
Recall Yah said to the Israelites coming out from Egypt not to touch the land of Lot's children (by Yah's decree)? They were blessed by Him. We may not understand it all, but we can certainly see the hand of our Creator in the outcome.
