You understood it perfectly on the first listen. Impressive. The Rolling Stones have a LOT of great songs. Satisfaction, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Angie, She's A Rainbow, Get Off Of My Cloud, Time Is On My Side, Let's Spend the Night Together, and Honky Tonk Woman would all be great Rolling Stones songs to do next, but there are so many more!
Good reaction! Yeah I lost a partner in 2014. It feels like a piece of your soul left and you will never get it back. There is a constant pain around your heart for about a year and a half...then things are not so painful and you can finally risk trusting someone again. But the pain doesn't really go away, you just learn to live with it and move on.
You got the meaning exactly right. The black cars, covered in flowers are taking his love away. I think the music has a dark tone to it as well. It's not exactly a dance track. The instrument that sounds like a loosely tuned guitar, playing through this, is a sitar. Brian Jones, the guy playing it, was found dead in his pool in three years' later. He joined the 27 club. Musicians who died at the age of 27. You have blues great Robert Johnson, guitar great Jimi Hendrix, lead singer of the Doors Jim Morrison, Blues/pop singer Janis Joplin, Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, Badfinger singer Peter Ham, Amy Winehouse.... The list goes on.
The incredible drumming from Charlie and amazing guitar work from Keith Richards and Brian Jones covers up the very dark , sad lyrics Mick is singing. The Stones have written some of the best music of our time. Sometimes they are just great and bluesy , sometimes it’s the lyrics that are important. They can do anything… that’s why they still pack stadiums around the world 60 years into their career.
🌸 I've never experienced having an a partner for decades and decades and decades like this old man you talked about.... but from what I understand from other people's experiences and stories, when your partner passes after you've been together for that long, it's like half of you is gone.
This was the first song on the Aftermath album, which may be my favorite Stones album to this day, and that's saying a lot! The lyrics are off in some places. Should be "I want to see it painted, painted black." Also, others may disagree with this, and that's fine, but after JFK was killed, LBJ is reported to have said, regarding the limo, "Paint it black." Also, Bill Wyman said he was playing a pedal bass with his hands on this. It does sound like it.
The Beatles approached this same theme with an entirely different feel in Baby's in Black. The Stone's version is much darker. I'd have to say that the Stone's version is the better.
Make sure subscribe and let me know what you want to see next!!
The line of cars and flowers is the funeral cortege of the woman he loved.
I will watch any young intelligent person listening to Stones songs for the first time. Great job! You are smart af to get it first time. ❤

It's the most upbeat sad song ever.

death & depression
Back when Brian Jones was still an important part of the band, after he was fired the Stones became a different kind beast 🎸🦋🎶

Triple level chess thought assembly when it comes to the Stones. They were competing with the Beatles for "goodness"!!
For what it's worth, there shouldn't be a comma in the title. Changes the whole connotation!
