  • In this review, we look at the popular PADI Turtle SBDY017. Is this model worth the premium over the more regular models?
For the extra money, you do get a really nice sunburst blue dial and a Kanji day wheel. Of course you'd get an eye-catching watch for sure.

For the price, Seikos can't be touched. This SBDY017 will be in my collection soon.❤

The colours are PADIs official colour scheme I believe. I reviewed the Samurai version, absolutely loved it!

Oh I think you’re right about the colours. Thanks for sharing!

I've always hated the turtle. Found it ugly, weird etc. I finally tried one in person and I was so wrong. Its a nice beautiful watch that must be appreciated in person.

Interesting story. I’m glad you changed your mind about the turtle. It’s a really nice design and wears so well. The only thing i dislike is the day-date wheel. Definitely needs a matching colour.

I bought the international version for my son in the summer of 2016 when it was first released and it’s a very nice watch at under US$400 when I got it. My son had just started high school so it was a very fancy watch for his age. He was so obsessed with my Seamaster since he was little, so I thought this was a nice entry level, automatic watch for him until he inherits my watch collection someday...or even better when he starts to earn his own money to buy something fancier for himself😉...I would love to get a JDM King Turtle/Save the Ocean/Great White SBDY047. That piece is gorgeous and does your friend’s store have it??😍

Hi Nick, wonderful sharing. I’m sure your son will get a nice watch once he has the means. Seems like he started off right already.
My friend’s store should have what you’re looking for, but I’m guessing he’s not doing international sale now.

@@AndyinSG Ok no problem and thanks! I actually saw that JDM King Turtle on gnomonwatches.com and they’re also in Singapore. Do you know them and would you recommend buying from them?

@@nickchang5293 I haven’t dealt with them before but reading all the feedback on the internet, I would think they are definitely reliable. Go for it.

@@AndyinSG Yes, I will pull out my credit card...but my problem now is they have sooo many other watches I like that I can’t find here in Los Angeles. Damn, they’re like a candy store with so many choices!😂

If you had the normal Padi version you’d see the casing on the JDM is much neatly finished, with the brushing and polishing_

You must be referring to the JDM version vs the K version? I didn’t know that there are differences in their build quality. Thanks for sharing. Useful info for us Seiko fans.

@@AndyinSG No problem, after many reviews and research on both I’ve just ordered the JDM version. I just think the JDM has a better finish and the history behind it set them apart, well that’s just my opinion. LoL

The JDM has three things different from the SRPA21
    1. "Made in Japan" inscription at 6 o'clock.
    2. Kanji date displayed.
    3. "Made in Japan" inscription on the case back.
Personally, I think it's worth paying the premium for these 3 three things. The Padi will be discontinued eventually and the JDM models will carry that premium. Kinda like how the SKX was discontinued and the price jumped. Always good to have a watch that maintains or appreciates in value. Just my two cents!

Great sharing! Thanks. I didn’t know these little differences between the JDM and international versions. I guess it’d be interesting for the serious Seiko collectors out there.

How well does it keep the time?

    • @AndyinSG
      @AndyinSG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

To be honest, I have no idea. This is because I never wear these watches long enough to time them.

This watch ran about +/- 10 seconds a day when I first bought it in 2016. It belongs to my son and he told me it has been running much slower recently by -10 to -15 seconds a day, so we had it serviced last week and it was running +15 seconds a day for a week, but now slowing back down to a normal rate. This happens usually after you get it serviced with lubricant added, like getting an oil change for your car😎
