How to Get a Mechanical License and Legally release Cover Songs To Spotify

- If you are interested in how to correctly and legally publish a cover song on spotify or other streaming services, then this guide will help you figure out the licensing, publishing and uploading process of the track. For distribution, I use the RouteNote service, and for publishing a song within the United States, I use the affordablesonglicensing to get my mechanical license.
Here is some points to remember that RouteNote provide for me:
You will not need a mechanical license if you are selecting streaming only services worldwide excluding USA, Canada, Mexico, India & Pakistan, as other territories are required to license covers through their platforms. If you would like to distribute in the USA and download stores in this territory, we would recommend visiting affordablesong...
If you do not want to pay for a license, please exclude USA, Canada, Mexico, India and Pakistan and do not include iTunes, Amazon Music, Tidal, Calro-musica, MeLon, Kanjian, Bugs!, NetEase, TME (Tencent), Qobuz, TH-cam, Facebook, Instagram, Soundcloud or TikTok.
USA, Mexico, Canada, India and Pakistan all operate outside of the standard network for licensing/royalty payouts, and as a result require separate licenses for each territory. At present, India does not operate a system where you can obtain a compulsory license, and so you would need to go directly to the copyright owner for permission.
If you purchase the license (for the US from affordable song licensing) , you will be able to to select stores worldwide and then deselect Mexico, Canada, India and Pakistan as territories only.
Also you can opt out of the additional territories and then add them in the future if/when you obtain the relevant licenses.

No, no unlimited streams, or at least as much as you can get. It's only for the number of downloads in stores. Digital downloads and streams - it's different.
Hi! Why did you exclude USA etc. If you where going to have a license? Did Routenote swap the countries after they recieve your license? Do you have to pay again after a year or so? I have so much questions hahah
Hi, Aries! Thanks for the question. I'm not excluding the USA, at least in this video. The license is the pass to let your music be available in certain territories, without the license RouteNote would not be able to distribute your music where you need it. I have experience with only 1 year license and I decide to not upgrade it again. I'm not sure where you are now but it looks like not in USA. If you are in the USA you can check if the music from this video is still able for USA listeners by simply clicking the links at the bottom of this video. If available - the license is still working. I'm going the empirical route 🙂
@@pavlobutorinohhh I get it. I am from Spain and I was reading about how to upload my covers, but it seems I only need to have the ones that are from song of the usa or if I want to distribute my music there. ^^ Your video was very helpful. There is not much information of this website.
@@aries13music yeah, not much info about this topic, that's why I decide to upload the video instruction. Glad that it become helpful. in general you will get a license sertificate in a 1-3 days on your email or this document can be viewed in you cabinet on affordablesomglicensing.
