I am a resident of Desoto and own a business in Lancaster. The problem we run into with these communities is that the majority of the black people that live there and make up the most wealth in the community do not actually work there. Typically, the professional people are driving miles to work either to downtown Dallas or even further.
I first noticed this when I myself had to commute the 37 miles one-way to Plano everyday for a consulting role. All the traffic flowed to the north in the mornings and to the south in the afternoons. There aren't many black owned businesses in these communities that are employing people in numbers.
Also, we typically don't own much land in these communities. That's not always completely our fault though - "they" don't like to sell to us. I've tried to buy a few different properties in my area only to be either hung up on or lied to. Still, in order for us to hold a true stake in the game and really call these "black communites", we'll need to own some of that land. Community investing needs to be our next step

My husband and I just moved here from DC area. What a beautiful place and I miss it but we quickly picked up and moved here to Dallas due to my health problems and I have my family here to help me. He already found a great job working remotely in ux design and we are in a safe area. My daughter was being bullied constantly in DC due to the color of her skin and had no friends. It was stressful and we always struggled with finances too. Now a year later my daughter is happier and has many friends, good neighborhood. We don’t have to stay down, we can do better. Blessings!

As our foreword stated, this real estate educational is based on Zip Codes. We don’t factor in bias, personal ties, real estate agent collabs, or emotions. As always, our presentations are based on #FACTS, #DATA and hours of research and due diligence. We stand by our work and are confident that our analysis will stand up to any challenge. No arrogance. We are Data Analysts and Software Engineers that leverage tons of sites. And you can too. Here are a few: Niche.com, UnitedStatesZipCodes.org, City-Data.org, NeighborhoodScout.com, Livability.com, and DataUSA.io. Not to mention we have invested into our own Analytics Heat Map based on Census data and American Census Survey. We not playing...

At the start of the vid she said, "African American home owners have gravitated to these neighborhood for LOWER CRIME RATES, BETTER SCHOOLS and black neighbors who share their social economic demographic." And I don't blame them not one bit. I always look around and the majority of us just dont want to get it together period. I can go on and on about the stuff that most of our people do that wont further us as a people. But this channel give us hope that we can change and get things together.

As someone that moved to Texas from the East Coast, I will say there are pros and cons in every area mentioned. To me, the main con is traffic. The people I know that live in those areas have a 45 min.- 1 hour commute time to get to work every day (not so much so in Ft. Worth). Rest assured, the commute is not fun! Texas drivers are challenged and its good to say a daily prayer when getting on the main highways every morning and evening. In addition, most of the "Southern Tier" cities mentioned near Dallas have those large populations of Blacks because they never move! They and their families have lived ONLY there. While people say they are welcoming, I will tell you ... it's not that simple. Anyone that wants to move here I highly recommend they move as close as they can to where they work. I live next door to Mesquite in a very new community and am quite content. Mainly, because most of the residents are from other cities. Good luck, everyone!

I live in California and i heard of the dallas and houston suburbs. So i went out there to check all of them out. Let me tell you, i have never seen a all african american city of atleast 75% of our color and living well with well manicured lawns, mansions, home ownership, black own businesses, and so many professional african americans in my life until i went to desoto. Now i am in the process of closing on a brand new home almost 5k sq footage. I cannot forget you get your bang for your buck in texas as cost of living is waayy lower than California so the home im purchasing the size and area i could not ever own anything close to it where i live. In these comments i see a lot of individuals say this and that about desoto because they live there. If you were born outside of an african american city you will see how us Californians and anyone feel about wanting to come to a city where our ppl are. My kids have been called the N words several times, and family have been looked over for jobs because they dont speak fluent spanish. So by all means our perspectives will be totally different from your perspective as we see things in the light of what you see on tv as our people Are really out here getting killed and abused by not just the police but by neighbors and store owners and etc because we dont have our own living close by and looking out for each other like we did in the 60,70, and 80’s.

What you saw is sadly correct. I've lived there ( years ago) and also attended school in 99. The schools were polar opposite then.
Most of the teachers at the high school and middle schools (whom I know) , will NOT place their own kids in the district. That is telling for any district, what the teachers themselves will not do.
Fights, faculty are overly militant, are good group of kids have poor habits (do their sketchy parents that have moved into that area from undesirable areas).... There are so many charter schools, it is unreal. That says a lot about why the need for charter schools? Also, those charter schools are only "slightly better" . Word of advice - unless your kid excels in sports and will be more that likely receiving an athletic scholarship, do not consider desoto isd. Your kids will not get an adequate education, coupled with the behaviors of students. I would be greatly worried.
Look up some the videos from students that post from within the classroom - nough said.
The area is fine to live in, but the school are horrid! Some neighborhoods are poorly maintained... stay out of Lancaster.
If you must live in the area, consider private school.
      - the teachers have trashed the middle and high schools, behind closed doors.
A positive note- most of the elementary schools are blue ribbon (excellent). Honorable mentions to Woodridge elementary. But after elementary- haul them into private school if you can afford it. If you cannot, look elsewhere...if you care about your kids quality of education and integrity of their educators.

Interesting, I'm from DeSoto Tx. My family moved to Desoto in 1986. Me and my brother were the only two black kids in school. Then other black families start moving in from the Dallas area. So in the mid-90s white families began to take what is known as the white-flight. This is where many of the white families moved to areas like Frisco, Addison, Carrollton, and mostly out the South Dallas County area.

I grew up in Beaumont in the 70’s and 80’s. My neighborhood or subdivision was all African American with high income. It was a rare neighborhood with black doctors, lawyers, teachers, refinery worker, preacher and entrepreneur. It was called Fleetwood Edition and my family was the first to built in the subdivision in 1969. It was great growing up there, I knew all the neighbors. I didn’t have to worry about being attacked or robbed. Both my parents have past, but still visit the neighborhood when in Beaumont. It’s still doing ok. I cherish the memories.

It’s funny the amount black folk you have here bashing these communities for no other reason than they’re majority black
If you don’t think LARGE parts of DeSoto, Cedar Hill and Lancaster are affluent, then you are simply out of the loop.
I personally know several millionaires in each city
The richest blacks in Dallas are around Joe Pool (South Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Midlothian and part of Cedar Hill)
The only white areas that are truly nicer are Highland Park, Southlake, Westlake and small pockets of Frisco....
none of the other cities are nicer than these....unless black skin just cheapens things for you

You never realize when your younger what your parents do for you, and your future. We moved so many times in Texas, until my parents bought their home, which was in Cedar Hill, TX, at the time growing up in Cedar Hill, no one knew where that was, so you always had to say...right outside of Dallas, Lol!!! I graduated from CHHS (🤘 Go Longhorns) and made so many great friends, that I consider family. My brother decided to stay, and he lives in Ft. Worth. We are buying a home in FL, but if i had a choice, i would have chosen Cedar Hill, TX to raise my children. I have grown to love Texas so much, and I would do it all over again (make a few personal changes, Lol!!), but it made me, me right!! Not a Cowboys fan though, Lol!!
