    I just found 3 bottles of this at my local store last week for $70. Bought all three! They were quite dusty.

    Ralfy' commercial tag line for Scottish mist: "Your dram just got better." We just need to film it for next year's Super Bowl!

    i keep on looking and searching, but I still don't find any bottles of Longrow in Victoria, BC... It's a good thing I was able to have some folk send me samples from elsewhere.

    Hello From Kentucky, Ralphy. Saying I look forward to your vid uploads would be quite an understatement.
    This dram looks lovely...
    May many decades of whimsical whiskey wordsmithing be in your future.

    Loved the review. Haven't had Longrow . The mic audio is clear but there is a background hiss that you might check out.

    • @alexk3088

      IMHO distilled water, despite being chemically pure (in theory), smells nasty, like thawing refrigerators. it's not natural for us to taste distilled water. In my opinion it's mostly the dissolved oxygen in water that improves your dram (aside from dialing back the ethanol nip so you can taste actual aromatics). So you need the most neutral clean water. That means clean soft water. Hard is bad, but IMHO distilled could be worse. I'd say if it tastes good for drinking, you should be good.

    Have you made a record of all your old reviews? You seem to know the particulars now. That wasn't always a, priority, shall we say.

    Ralfy, whats is your opinion about Old Pulteney 21, will it be a collectible item in the future? Is it worth to buy while possible and save for future?

    • @thewhiskybothy
      @thewhiskybothy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      . . . I don't think so, OP is simply not a 'big' label like Macallan, but anything quality is worth buying now to drink in 10 or 20 or 30 years.

    • @guntis7130
      @guntis7130 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The idea is to save one bottle for special ocasions and another couple as an investment to sell somewhere in the future. Ralfy, thank you for sharing with you malt moments!

    • @maltymission
      @maltymission 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen in gone up in price though. Where I'm from it used to be € 100 - 120, and I've seen prices going near and over € 300 already, but then again, I think that's just the flippers trying to make a fast profit, as I can't imagine a lot of people are willing to pay that much. It's a fantastic whisky, no doubt, but anything over € 150 is daylight robbery in my book

    Mic's a good'un. Warm ambience.. Rich sibilance.. (get your dictionary out) with rosy, rabbie-esque poetic undertones of a whisky nature. ;) Cheers Ralfy!

    The microphone is good

  • @AGT0M
    @AGT0M 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The microphone is certainly better than the previous ones. The video quality suffers from max available resolution of 720p, especially considering the content, when a bottle with sometimes quite busy looking labels is on display for the entire duration of your vlog. When you try to address it by bringing a bottle closer to the camera, it doesn't help for at least one of two reasons. Either the minimum focal distance from your camera to an object is longer, and you don't know it, or your camera cannot readjust its auto-focus as fast as you'd like it to. Either way I can't tell what's inscribed on that glaring label on the bottle. Perhaps watching your video (before posting it) would let you better understand my point.

    • @thewhiskybothy
      @thewhiskybothy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      . . . I do watch them, but the problem I have is that many viewers are watching on mobiles with slower network speeds, and living on the Isle of Man, I have no choice with the local network provider who is very 'limited' in the quality of service they provide.

    • @Westspark
      @Westspark 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a mobile viewer I appreciate the lower quality. Maybe a photo of the bottle can be edited onto the screen in the open someplace? Just a thought.

    51.7% is a hell lot of alcohol in a dram. If it were for me I would have poured a quarter of what you poured. My idea is that homeopathic drams of whisky make you live longer!

    There is no point reviewing bottles that sold out more than three years ago. I'm interested in liquor that I can purchase. The mic is much better-a good buy.

      NOEL MOITRA, I find I always learn something, even if I'll never try the malt. And if I do find a rare bottle, I quite enjoy finding a review of it.

    • @ocno
      @ocno 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I don't think Ralfy's reviews should be taken as buyer's guides or "investment" advice. For me it's all about education, learning how to taste, learning about the malts, their histories and the distilleries, and also living that experience of rare and wonderful malts by proxy, through someone who can be trusted. Keep the reviews coming, sold out or not!

    • @vojtechfryc994
      @vojtechfryc994 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that was perfectly said florian. part of the joy is ralfy's vast collection of odd malts and blends. would be nice to see ralfy review some of the current supermarket own brand malts and such. the selections seem to be on the up and up especially in lidl and aldi.

    • @alexk3088
      @alexk3088 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. If I make a purchase decision based on a Ralfy-review, it is now by coincidence - that I've already watched it first. I did buy a few initial malts on Ralfy-recommendations but now I go by what I learned from watching - abv, natural color, NCF, etc. Why, even in this review [of a malt I might never get the chance to buy or try] I learned about what rundlets and kilderkins are! Now, if I come across a bottle with these words, I'll know.
      Since Ralfy has very high standards and only does positive reviews, I pretty much consider every Ralfy-reviewed malt a must-try (at least once). I get the bottle and THEN watch as I sip. As for actual purchasing decisions, I try to only buy "value" - something that's on sale or lower than elsewhere, travel retail, duty-free, etc. I never "need" a bottle and often walk away from bottles I wanted only to find them cheaper.
