    I'm just a humble 1300 who started playing chess in 2021 after watching Queens Gambit. Levy's videos were the first instructional videos I ever watched to teach me about tactics and openings and I in fact bought two courses to help me with my development. His teaching style and humor kept me with him and four years later he's still my go to for chess content. Ive watched Naroditsky and Rosen amongst others but Levy is the man I've entrusted my learning to, not that he knows it. To see him back on the board and playing well is so good to witness, I always thought he had way more talent than he was able to display due to his lacking belief in his very obvious abilities. So, good luck Gotham, I'm loving watching you become a Road Warrior and I hope you get GM

    Something I learned when I broke 2500 online. Everything under 2500, I was always winning on crazy tactics and sacrifices, after 2500 I was always losing on time looking for tactics and sacrifices. In order to keep growing I have to tell myself to just make improving moves. If they are thinking for a long time, they are probably going to avoid any crazy tactics. They are good. So I'll just play defensive. Make improving moves. Keep up in time. Then when they are feeling the pressure I have time to look for mistakes. It was crazy how much different high level chess is. I'm much older than you and got into chess way too late. I'll never be titled or play over the board tournaments. But the little bit of online experience I have gives me so much respect for your journey. You've learned and relearned the game so much already. Committing yourself to relearning it over and over again until you make GM is amazing. Keep up the good work Levy. Even if it takes a few years I'll be cheering you on for as long as it takes. You skinny armed bozo.

    Okay the coach’s advice that “if the opponent hasn’t done anything horribly wrong in the opening you can’t just go try and take their head off” sort of hit me pretty hard. Anyone else extremely guilty of this?

    • @curtisholsinger6023
      @curtisholsinger6023 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +16

      Yeeeeep. I get away with it at my current level b/c 1200-1500 rated players make more frequent mistakes. But I'm gonna pay for it when I get to 1600-1800. Need to shed this tendency before the Vegas Open next July or I'm gonna get crushed...

    • @MistaOppritunity
      @MistaOppritunity 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      Well yeah, but I think being guilty of it is the wrong way to think about it because it's a perfectly valid way to play below the GM level. You can absolutely look at a dead drawn position as an intermediate player and say, "I'm going to force this win." It's riskier, but you can absolutely do it. Maybe don't do it straight out of the opening, but if the game is dead drawn all game and you are trying to win at all costs, it has to happen eventually and you can keep creating threats.

    Part of me thinks this is probably the absolutely best outcome for your 3rd tournament back. The first two gained you rating, boost your confidence, and this one sends the "don't get too big headed", but ends on a "you got this" note too (and ends up proving those gained rating points are real - you're better now than you were). I've learned so much from watching your streams, and I'm grateful for how you skilfully blend key ideas and concepts into an entertaining presentation. In particular from this game, pointing out the idea of "I'm not going to play for what I want, but rather take away everything they want", was a nice concept to introduce and then demonstrate. Anyone can set up and demonstrate some tactics, but those deeper conceptual ideas that you throw in have helped me (slowly, it takes time to fully come to grips with those concepts and how to implement them of course). But being old enough to be your dad, I'm aware that when someone with that level of understanding can also communicate it to others, that is a clear indication they will rise to the top of their field. You've got this, and seeing the difference in your responses to losses this time around, you've got this hands down. Sure, it will still take work, and there's lots to do, but you knew that. What we all know now, though, is it will just be a matter of work and time as there's no question about it paying off. That's a done deal. Well done. And in all honesty, I think the best outcome is exactly what this event gave you. (sorry for the verbosity).
    P.S. Are you dying your hair ginger? ha ha

    Levy, I consider this series to be peak chess content. Sports coverage is always more interesting when a story is involved and your struggles and successes are just so much more relatable and interesting to me than to find out which of the 10 super GMs wins the next turnament, with an exception maybe being the Candidates or the WC. Keep up the good work, and while I root for you to get the GM title, the road is great content, not matter the outcome! Glad the haters don't get you down and all the best from a usually silent viewer.
