Darrin been watcing your video for a long time and learn so many things . CT was in good hands with you building his motor, only thing better than that , he was able be there to watch the master build it and share the process. Thanks for taking the time to share your vw skill-set which in turn, helps all of us with vw our hobby. For a lot of us are vw's are members of our family that have names and just happen to sleep outside, ok my house does have a lot of vw parts enjoying the comforts of my house.

I'm learning all the things that were done wrong on my motor. One being the dual springs. I'm only running 4,000 RPM so I'm sure that double springs is overkill.

Hey Darrin! Can you speak about Weber DCNF carbs in an upcoming video?
The good, the bad, your experience. Anything. I always watch your videos for how to's and reviews of products. I setup some solid shaft rockers and piston ring locations for this engine thanks to your videos and now want a little more power. I got a deal on some 40 DCNF carbs for my 1679cc engine. (I have played with Dellorto carbs in the past, but wanted to try something different) There is not much info out there about these carbs. I am sure you have come across them in your years of playing with VW's. Thanks! Keep the videos coming!

I'm so tired of fighting the el' cheapo VW valve spring compressor I've used for years. I just bought a spring compressor like yours...looks so easy! Like every video of yours, I've learned a lot. Thanks for uploading this! Are you going to do a video of how to match port the new intake manifolds for this engine? I'd like to see how you transfer the port from head to manifold, Dykem? Thanks!

back in 1972 when i was in high school and worked in a auto machine shop, they did not use assembly lube (Not sure if it was available back then) . They used a 50/50 mix of STP and 30w oil. What your thougths on a 50/50 mix ???

    Thanks for posting this Darrin.
I'm just trying to resuscitate my daily driver bus SP.
I see where EZGZ puts a steel washer under his valve springs to reduce the wear on the aluminum. Is that an issue?
And my old heads have a small tin baffle on the valve tube side. I see you don't use those on your heads. SCAT says they don't make them and don't know of anyone that does. Mike F'n Garage says he uses them and that they are important to have is a stock build. Have you had issues not using them?

Hey Darrin, HUGE fan and factory Toyota tech. Question?? I have 71 SB, 40 Kads, stock cam and crank, dual quiet packs, pertronix distributor, electric fuel pump, lightened flywheel, Scat 1.4 rockers, what's your opinion for single springs and Scat rockers? Thanks you, Ricky

Is there anything different to do when lapping in stainless valves? I have a new set of aa heads that are going on a pretty much stock 1679. And thanks for the channel..I'm still catching up on older vids. Loved the build with CT also

    • @vwdarrin

no special procedure for stainless , just be sure to clean the heads very good after you lap the valves in
