  • WHY I FARM - Frank Doll - Illinois farmer
“I see every sunrise. I see every sunset. Being outside, enjoying the weather. Enjoying the outdoors. The smells, the sounds. I think that’s one of the greatest things about being a farmer.” - Frank Doll, Pocahontas, Illinois.

I love this. I saw it when you first did it. My son grew up being raised by a single mother. My daughter also work for Frank Doll. As a single mother two farmers changed the life of my kids and myself. That part is never told. However my family will never forget. Frank and his family has been a mentor to my son who now helps him run the farm.

Thank you Frank. I am so proud of you and what you bring to your community and to all of us non-farmers who simply go to the air conditioned grocery store to buy our milk. I have such fond memories of watching My grandpa milk the cows in the morning. Sunset to sundown, Farmers like you are connected to the earth, dependent on the forces of nature and more connected to life and living. Thank you for all that you do!

What a great video! It speaks so true to mine and my husbands hearts. We know the true hearts of farmers having been raised in the farming life. I sure hope you know how very blessed you are to be fortunate enough to keep yours running, and hopefully pass it on again to your children. You sure have a wonderful thing going on there, keep it up, and we wish you and your family the best!

The most under-appreciated people, on the entire planet. How many people, around the world, are NOT hungry ... because of these incredible people and their families?

It's so true about needing more good stories. Not only are their bad stories, some people pursue the negative. With my second book of ag history, I actually had to change publishers, because the first publisher I lined up (a university press) said my book was too positive. They were actually looking for "darker" and more negative stories. Fortunately I found someone who wanted the positive story. But it's hard to get the story out there. Glad to see you doing this good job of highlighting the kind of people who keep us fed. Thank you.
