Hey guys! As always: Thx for taking the time to leave some words - even though I was not the greatest fan of this. I have taken in all your comments and I appreciate them! It seems like many of y'all think, maybe THIS song-choice just wasn't the one to walk in with on Hua. I don't WANT to NOT like him or anything. But you'll always get what is going through my head right then and there.
So maybe I should just do a second one and see what's up? Is there another song/vid of his, that I should check out? Maybe I just came in the wrong way, like many have said?

He has Rock Songs,, Rap songs, a mental health trilogy , some multi genre songs, ballads .... What do you think you might like? 😅 His Rap ist more Rock Rap. Because of the language it sounds more melodic than the"normal" Rap you are used too with eng. And he raps fast sometimes,so sometimes it is not easy to read the lyrics so fast while watching the video. Some reactors are watching the video first to pay attention to the song/performance and later open the sub file to disect the lyrics. Some are doing all in once. I think you have to try which would be the best way for you if you would like to try one of his rap songs. He has more non Rap songs so.

My negative reaction to your reaction wasn't because you didn't like THAT song. It was because of your "Come on" (übersetzt ins Deutsche: die da sind doof) which was insulting the feelings of those who were present at this performance and were so shocked and mesmerized that they couldn't even breathe. I don't want you to react to Hua Chenyu who is the most respectful person towards any being.

I would suggest Qi Tian from Singer 2018. Or the Bullfighting MV. In both he use his vocals to convey the various aspects of the song…. The internal conflict of Qi Tian or the different perspectives in Bullfighting. The rap segment is very fast in both so you would have to choose as ViJandra suggested. How about Black and White Artist from 2021 Mars Concert.

@@elisifuentes6551 Love all 3 songs. Qi Tian is a theme song for a movie about the Monkey King which Hua Chenyu composed for it. So the lyrics in this songs are referring to the tale of the Monkey King. Bullfighting is great too. He uses the Bullfight as an analogy. For what? We know it. Let us hear what you think it is about Rob. The obvious Bullfight is only the first layer in it. HuaHua watched a Bullfight in person. He didn't liked it at all but it inspired him to write this song. Black and White artist is a Rock song Hua Chenyu composed as an answer to his anti-fans. Because they took it way to far with online bullying in the beginning of 2021. But I am not sure what Rob will think about the HaHaHa part in it😂. I love the message in it and HuaHua's attitude. And yeah the song is awesome. Love it that HuaHua finally spoke up to those ants. 💪Best version to me is the one from the Mars concert 2021. You can see something of his legendary Mars concert. Never ever saw a stage like this 🤯. So hope I can go to Mars this year. ❤
I don't dare to choose a song so. Because I don't want it to be my fault if Rob didn't like it again. 😅

@@vijandrav.6095 TY for taking the time and effort of filling in background. Im too lazy 😂. I deliberately chose songs from tv show, MV and concert. Could have gone for the usual Child, Ordinary Path or Nanchucks, but i always prefer his original music over rearrangements. Though you could say that HCY recomposes songs 🤩 I dont mind if Rob still wont like it. Rob likes and plays ska punk and that makes up for a lot! 😂

This resonates so much as it relates to many who may have suffered neglect and experiencing not being loved and wanting love. Hua uses vocals to express all kinds of internal struggles you go through. When you spend hours, months, years alone, how many different emotions do you go through. You go through laughing because you don't want to cry or the craziness of being alone. You go through a dazed unfeeling phase to block out pain or drained of emotions. you cry out and eventually scream out of pain and anger. Hua hauntingly brought all this out. As Hua says everyone will interpret a song according to their experience in life. If your taste is not in theatrics then Hua may not be to your taste. Hua is the most unique versatile performer/composer who does not cater to the norm. I respect and love all his compositions.

Lang Lang has talked about his love for collaborating with young musicians. He once praised singer-songwriter Hua Chenyu for his originality, unique style, and excellent piano playing. Lang Lang even served as a guest performer at one of Hua Chenyu's concerts.
Hua Chenyu has a great ability to express emotions through music. It's a shame that some only pay attention to his vocal range and don't fully experience the emotions he wants to convey through his performances.

Hua is in a genre of his own. He is more of an artistic performer. He is one of the top performer/composer in China. He is interpreting this song from a lonely neglected point honing in his child hood experience. It's all about wanting to feel loved but rejecting it. It's a remarkable performance using is vocals to express different emotions. He does not compose songs to please to norm but to express his own desire to use music to express himself. An out of the box performer and I respect and love all his music. For those that have experienced child neglect, and loneliness can relate to this new way of expressing it through music.

I love Hua Chenyu, he has an amazing talent, although this song is unique even in his repertoire.
Fake monk is a very polarizing song, Personally, I love the artistry, but it's by no means representative of his work, something like Qi Tian, I Don't Care, Ordinary Path or Child is more accessible and probably more representative of what he is like as a singer, composer, and arranger.
I think that what is particularly unusual about him is that he is willing to push boundaries even while on competitions.

Thank you for your honest reaction. I think what most people who love Hua Chenyu appreciate that he is not bound to one genre and that he typically structures his songs to resonate with the message. Here in this performance as you mentioned he plays alot of dissonant chords to reflect his inner turmoil, he is a monk but not by active choice. Similarly, Hua Chenyu was a loner not by choice but by his inability to nurture real connections with others. His simplistic way of expressing the song mirrors the simple way of living as a monk, only interrupted by dissonance of inner struggle. And no he is not a concert pianist, he does know and appreciate Lang Lang and have performed with him a number of times. I hope you will listen to some of Hua Hua's other performances, he has many and they are varied. The show is called Singer, it is a show with already established artists. They were allowed to play two of their own original songs and the rest had to be rearrangements of other artist's songs. Another reason why some were reacting the way they did, is because it is a bold choice for a singing competition. He knew that 50 percent was probably going to dislike his performance. But at the same time it was personal to him and therefore he wanted to go through with the performance. He does that a lot, which he has been criticised a lot for. So you are certainly not alone in your opinion. Hua chenyu does not fit the conventions of an idol. He became one nonetheless... He is also greatly admired due to his 24hours rearrangements of songs on the show called the Next. He does not sing love songs, but he sings about life, his struggles and sorrows and his world view. Especially, in his 2019 album Please, react to his other performances. I can see people have left links already.
    ❤Mai

But thats ok, Fake Monk isnt for all. You may have preferred listening to LangLang accompanying Hua Chenyu in the song “Glimmer”. Not much freestyle there. I love free style music, when musicians explore and push boundaries, and i love Fake Monk. I find it beautiful. What draws me in completely is the mix of it all, but prolly its mainly the conveying of emotions and him being utterly mesmerizing. People are more often than not captivated by him. Fake Monk has captivated me since 2018. Its not a talent show though… the contestants are all established artists, including Jessie J. The original video without the interview, has 2,3 mill views.

This show is a lot different from American Idol. The contestants on this show are already famous. (Imagine a show where artists like Adele, Beyonce, Rhianna and Ariana are competing.) Each week they have a winner but the person in last place gets sent home and replaced with someone else. This goes on for 12 weeks and whoever has the most wins is crowned the grand winner. They invited Jessie J to be the first non Asian competitor that year. She won 4 nights in a row so they brought in Hua Chenyu to give her some real competition. People were not exaggerating during his performance. The guy sold 180,000 concert tickets in 3 seconds last month. He's one of the greatest stage performers in the world and has played with numerous legendary artists. The song you listened to was not meant to showcase his vocals as much as his artistic ability. I am looking forward to seeing you react to some of his more mainstream stuff. I know you will enjoy many of his other songs because he has limitless genres in his repertoire. 😁

Talk about jumping in at the deep end. Fake Monk is one of his few Art pieces. I'm glad I saw lots of his other work before this, as I needed to KNOW Hua Hua, and work up to this, as its "out there". He is a Rocker at heart who does, Rock, Rap, Reggae, Pop, SynthPop, Electronic, Ballads, Broadway, Traditional Chinese etc. He is a prolific Composer, Music Arranger and multi instrumentalist. He grew up listening to Muse, Radiohead, Linkin Park. THAT'S where his core is. You may have preferred his Rock style. He has a song written by a British Writing team "Flying Conductor" which he sang for Peace Elite Gaming, which may have suited you better. Although not in my personal Top 50 Hua Hua Performances, this shows why "Nunchucks" is the "go-to" to fans use to introduce people to Hua Hua rather than Fake Monk. "Nunchucks" (I don't have it in my Top 50 Hua Chenyu Performances but he does 4 different genres in a fun way, so you can see his different vocals). If you like Rock.. Try "I don't Care", "Flying Conductor" (2021 Mars Concert not the MV), "Aliens". For Rap try "Qi Tien", "Dust in the Fireworks". For Reggae try "Madhouse". For SynthPop try "Flight Mode". For Electronic, try "Codename Contra". For Accoustic try "Contra in the Wild". For Broadway try "Perhaps Love" (with Su Shiding). For heavier songs try "7 Personalities", "Bullfighting". For Traditional try "Nanping Evening Bells" 😯😂 I'm even liking his recent "Dancing Siren" (think Pussycat Dolls "Jai Ho" without the dancing 😉). Touching/weepy try "Child". "I am what I am" or "Flower in a small town". (Tomorrow, I'd recommend other songs. He has so many wonderful performances). Thank you for being willing to give him a second chance. Maybe it was the interview that put me off this, but I kind of wanted to tell him to go and do some voluntary work 😁😁 Soz x

Subbed videos always have less views than original videos from the TV Stations they belong to, the original video actually has 2,3M views, plus then you should add his views from Bilibili, the Chinese equivalent of YT and they count in tens of millions.

Hua Chenyu is my favourite artist/ performer/singer! But this performance as a first acquaintance with new singer is a bad choice. Why people suggest it, i can't understand, it's anti advertisement. He sang it once in the show! He has so many great own compositions, so many cool performances... This reactor will never listen to Huahua again and it is sad, because Huahua is really smb worth listening.
