If they don't use one in a series, they reuse the tie-break task in the next, so they wouldn't show the unused ones of the current series. Maybe they could show how the three other contestants did at a tie-break they used.
Oh Alex, as a Canadian fan of the show, EVERY first episode is me saying "Well, I don't know any of these people!". It's the journey we take with them through the series that warms the cockles, and sub-cockles of our hearts.
Take it from your international viewers - "I don't know any of those people" is by no means a reason not to watch the show. And quite often, my most favourite contestant of a series (they're all my favourite, in a way, but usually there's one of them that is just a little more favourite) is often a person that I'd never heard of before.
nice idea. n_n reminds me of another silly idea i had, where ed gamble (of official taskmaster podcast and winner of series 9 fame) is kept in a cabinet, like a mini fridge or something, just down by Alex's side, bringing back the idea of the taskmaster's assistant's assistant.
Alex, I don't know if you read these, but you mentioned you're always nervous that we won't like the contestants on the first episode. I can safely say that I've started EVERY series unconfident in the contestants, and always been pleasantly surprised and warm with them by the end. You make good choices.
Bill Bailey would be my dream contestant. And surprised he didn’t cite the Riddle task when Guz kept issuing “revelations” from the lab as being his most frustrating - with Bridget’s walking task coming a close second (“that’s because you’re holding it!”).
Pro tip: when you need to show your socks/shoes, you need to lift your leg behind, not in the front. You know, the way the human knee anatomically bends. I know this, because I used to work at a place where we needed to see the sole of the shoes of the customers. For some weird reason, they all tried to do a standing split, until we directed them to raise their heel towards their bums instead of tearing their hamstrings. I also know this because I'm a human myself.
I find it fairly easy to bend my foot forward and to the side, personally, to hold my foot in my hand. I may be more than averagely flexible I guess though.
@@catherines.169 You think Alex wouldn't by the end of the series want to point out where a little secret was the whole time and laugh as the comedians get slightly furious for missing it?
What i really want is a Loser of Losers, with Nish, Charlotte Ritchie, Vicki Coren Mitchell, Phil Wang and Ivo Graham. A more adorable cast couldn't be imagined (unless Mark Watson makes a cameo as Nish's emotional support human) and they're all great at being awful at Taskmaster!
What they should do is give Mark Watson all of the tasks to complete and then invite him on the live show only to tell them that none of them counted because he wasn't part of the actual cast. 😂
Alex deserves (enter something he would like) for giving so much to the international YT community. These were a great selection of questions and answers! Thank you so much for all you're doing and cant wait for the next Askmaster
Yeah, to be honest I wish he did more panel shows, he's absolutely hilarious in Taskmaster and he was brilliant on House of Games too. I'd be happy to watch Tim in almost anything!
Alex Horne's Fun House With Pat Sharp is a good alternative title. Bonus points awarded for not being anything like Fun House and not involving Pat Sharp in any way.
The railway museum was the first task I saw. I didn't realise it was from this show until I saw quite a few more bits and episodes of the show when I fell in love with it.
They posted on Reddit for another one with the champions of series 11-15. This one was only shared on a TH-cam short and maybe TikTok (I don't TikTok so I don't know for sure).
I, too, am here for that solid House of Bernadotte joke. The problem is that Napoleon wanted the Danish King Frederick VI to become King of Sweden, not Bernadotte. Then he wanted his adopted stepson or another one of his blood relatives. Napoleon did eventually come around to supporting Bernadotte's candidacy. Of course, Bernadotte repaid him for his support by being a main driving force in creating the Sixth Coalition that ultimately defeated Napoleon. I don't see Alex displeasing the Taskmaster like that. OTOH, if he were King of Sweden, maybe he could fix Bäst i Test (aka Swedish Taskmaster) so they'd stop doing the annoying rotating guest contestant every week format.
5:10 I don't think that's much of an issue, once thing I've learned of taskmaster is that even if I don't like the usual comedic style of some of the comics taskmaster forcing them out of it is usually enjoyable. The opposite can also happen but is more rare.
I have had the opposite happen (love someone's comedy but find them unpleasantly rude or obnoxious on the show). But yes, far more often it's in the other direction.
Alex, we love you so much. Alex will never see this but he is so smart and plays a character who purposely is the butt if most jokes, thank you for taking one for the team. ❤️
As a fan, I always give a new season 3 shows before I feel the contestants gel with their chemistry. And then I watch the series anyway. Haven't skipped an episode yet! Love from Texas!
The first show of any new series I do think "Oh, I'm not sure I like any of these people". But they almost always wind up growing on me in an episode or two, and by the end of the series I'm always wishing we could get a couple more episodes.
These rare videos where it's just Alex Horne makes you realize just how much he makes this show great. He's got this really amazing dry humor and is amazing at coming up with really funny stuff on the fly; he just kind of slips in all these little jokes that catch you off guard. That humor also shines through the tasks he writes and they have just the right balance of being funny, wholesome, and a little bit annoying. He started this show and I think the show would quickly end without him running it; I hope he keeps doing it for years to come.
"When a studio task fails, thats the climax of the show" Honestly and truly, one of the best moments of the American television show "Monster Garage" was their first failure. The human element can make or break a show, and Taskmaster is a show all about the human element. Those few failures, while they are failures, reinforce the show's humanity.
The problem is that tasks don't fail because no one succeeds, they fail because they aren't entertaining to watch, and I think there are more ways for a studio task to go wrong (because they have to be fast, with less room for different approaches, and are heavily dependent on chemistry) and feel worse when they do (because ending the episode on a sour note feels worse).
I remember Monster Garage, but it has been so long ago. Which one failed? I remember getting disillusioned from the show because they'd miraculous get a hold of insanely expensive things ... for $100 or whatever. Because of that I liked the early episodes the most, they seemed more true to the premise or the challenge.
When you have a one-off special, it would be interesting if you could get a few Doctor Whos to compete against each other. Companions can fill in if needed. Getting their time would perhaps be the tricky thing, unless they appreciate the challenge of the combo.
What is your favorite pair of socks? The ones that I’m wearing right now - I wear them as often as possible. They’re blue with skulls and lightening bolts on them. What is your least favorite color? At last! Blue, or red, or something like that. ***** Quite the paradox.
Coming from an international viewer, I hope they continue to feature guests who are lesser known. Some of my favorite performances have been by people I had not known before watching Taskmaster, and I've gone on to enjoy their other work. "I don't know those people" is fine, and I get that you want to have someone in the cast who is more established to play alongside the obscure and the newbies, but I think that it's more important how their personalities interplay with each other rather than for them to be well-known already. And maybe Taskmaster is the thing that makes them known!
Most of the people who have done New Years Treat I'd describe as unexpected. Waiting to see if one of the Bake-off judges does it, since half the presenters have been on Taskmaster.
How are tasks assigned to episodes? Are they pre-planned or adjusted post-filming for better comedy or storytelling? Does this process allow you to influence who leads or win each episode?
They try to arrange them so that each contestant wins at least one episode, even manipulating prize task scores and other such subjective ranking. The live task, however, can really throw a wrench in that since it isn't pre-recorded and thus the outcome already determined.
I also wish for Stephen Merchant to appear. My number one wished for contestant is Adam Savage. My dream cast also includes Dawn French, Susie Dent, and any or all of the Six Idiots (but, most preferably, Jim Howick).

Also a THANK YOU for all the tasks during the pandemic. It really helped.
Lastly, please get Matt Berry and Richar 'Moss' on the show. or an entire IT crowd special
I'd love Stephen Merchant to be on the show too so I'm glad you're trying! Taskmaster has managed to get deep into national treasure territory by now, so all of my "dream contestant, but they'd never do it" have become "ooh maybe this series..." for me once Jo Brand/Johnny Vegas/Alan Davies/Sarah Millican to name but a few agreed to do it, all bets were off 😄
3:18 ... Genuine concern... Have you (Alex) thought about having a CT chest scan? Could be scary to see/hear the results but could be beneficial 🤔
