Lol. I tore my mcl. If it's fully torn you can't walk. I was in a straight full brace for like 12 weeks. Dude strained it, didn't tear it. Not a matter of pain, it literally holds your leg straight laterally.
It could have been a partial tear. I did mine twice on the same knee. I didn’t have it immobilized but I did have a brace for a couple of months. It’s was pretty unstable for the first few weeks.
Nerve blocking techniques are huge parts of pain management programs. I don't know how they did it but I had a massage at 17 in one of those youth group self care day things. I told the masseuse that I had constant lower lumbar pain and she did some weird thumb hammer jitsus back there and I was pain free for days. I'd pay good good money for it again.

I'm the biggest Andy fan but I need to say this. He should not be taking up a spot on the olympic team. Why say that? If you don't care about winning then give up your spot for somebody who cares. It's about striving for a gold medal. It's about doing it for your country. It's not about showing off freestyle. Scores matter. If you don't care about your score then MOVE OVER. The olympics are definitely NOT FOR YOU.
