This video has a very appealing tone and also answered my beginner questions about 3D printing. This does seem like the device of choice for occasional use right now although the fancy one is certainly tempting.

It was a lot easier getting this put together and set up than the Prusa Mini I bought a couple of years ago (which I hadn’t realized would ship half-built-a learning experience, for sure)

super excited to see this video. Ive been on the fence about getting this exact combo package but was unsure of two things: the quality and if it worked well with a mac. Seems it prints well and is great to work with. Solid quality content.

Works very well with a Mac, BambuLab Studio is a great app, download, slice and send direct to printer, only issue I have is if left to sleep, say overnight, when I come back it can't connect to the cloud server so need to re-launch the app but thats a pretty minor issue and now I just close app when done and don't sleep with it open, otherwise a great app, feels native, snappy, responsive, not like one of those badly ported windows apps (ps. not tried AMS - don't have one)

I wasn't aware of the Claris dog/cow. At first I thought it was the dog from the old Fetch FTP client which I remember using in my early Mac days circa 2005-2008 or so.
BTW, the spiral arrows in your video are a very cool touch! Far more interesting to look at than plain old straight arrows which everyone uses and they add a bit of whimsy. Nicely done!

@@FreihEitner I remember using Fetch back in '97 I was using the 36.6 modem in the science center at my high school and pulling weather data on the Mac. (We had a rudimentary weather station out the back door of the school) We'd upload and download files to a "bulletin board" for students.

I got this printer (Bambu A1) not that long ago. I ordered the basic version (without the AMS), not paying attention enough to realize that the cheaper version didn't have the part to do multi-color printing. I have now ordered the AMS, but they haven't shipped it out yet... The printer works well, is fairly fast and accurate. I am now using it to print parts for a different type of printer I am trying to build (assuming everything works... it will involve the use of PEDOT:PSS semiconductor inks, and me trying to hopefully print working transistors and logic gates...).
Thus far, I have used, PLA, PETG, and TPU for the various parts, everything works fine.
For parts with fine features, such as gears with an 0.042" tooth pitch (namely worm-gears using a 10-24 screw), the printer has a hard time pulling this off particularly well, but the fairly minor change of moving to an 0.05" tooth pitch (for a 1/4-20 screw) has significantly improved results (the gear teeth are better defined and more usable).
After trying a few 3D modelers, I am mostly using OpenSCAD; where one writes scripts in a sort of geometry-oriented functional language, which then performs CSG operations, and one can generate results as an STL file for the 3D printer.
I am mostly holding everything together using 10-24 screws as, attempts to use M3 and 6-32 screws directly into 3D printed PLA and PETG were not particularly successful (though longer M3 bolts and nuts+washers still works).
I have mostly ended up using PLA for structural parts, PETG for mechanical parts (such as gears and bushings), and TPU for some flexible parts, like tubing connectors and tubing holder clips.
Still waiting on AMS, which could allow a few things I don't currently do.
    Fun times...

I just got an A1 Combo from Micro Center, made a lot of Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and even Super Nintendo cases, along with some accessories for playing my retro gaming handheld consoles... Don't leave your filament out in the air if you don't print for more than a few days, place them back in airtight bags!! They get brittle...😅

Great video! I gave up on 3d printing a while ago because I had to fight so much with the printer after a while. Things like getting prints to stick to the bed but not stick too strong, printing reasonably flat surfaces without shrinking/curling, failed prints, trying to figure out the best setting for different materials and prints....it was all too frustrating for me. But you got me wondering if I should give it another shot.

Another comment (YT apparently ate the last one for whatever reason). I got this printer recently, it is working well. Using it to print various mechanical parts for another type of printer, using various materials. Mostly using OpenSCAD for the 3D modeling. Keeping it shorter this time, hopefully it gets through.

Silly question maybe, but does it actually require connection to a computer? I only use Linux these days so if it can accept models sent to it through a web interface, or stored on an SD card, that'll ensure I can use the printer on any platform I use. Thanks for the video.

    • @MacintoshLibrarian
      @MacintoshLibrarian  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

The official bamboo studio slicer does have a Linux build in their GitHub repository! Also, I have used an alternative slicer , Orca Slicer in Linux mint. It works well. A third option is to copy the models via SD card too ! And then you can monitor it on the Bambu handy app on your mobile device.

As someone capable of working on their own printers I wouldn’t touch this. Ender 3 and cr-10 are being sold off at £20-40. Once you install Klipper, an aliexpress bimetal heatbreak and ‘fixed’ dual gear extruder and of course dial in retractions these printers will work reliably and fast.
If you need more speed a dual y motor setup will increase motor accelerations to 10k or so.
