I am just like that. I don't know if that is a part of the Eastern culture, but people tend to attach to items often. My dad bought me a pair of Converse All Stars when i started high school, although he could barely spare them. I did everything in those shoes and i took care of them. For a seasonal sneaker, they lasted almost 11 years for me. When they were damaged beyond repair, i felt... that something more was lost than just shoes. I still have my memories of him. That can never be torn or worn out :')
Its not the attachment to the items, its the emotions and intentions behind it. People from poor background understand the value of things because they work so hard just to survive. So, when we get a gift, we appreciate it so much, because we seldom receive them and our parents could never afford with their normal income.
@@amanpatel10292 - You said it so very well. It was disheartening to read some posts that missed the point and message to this story. My parents came from incredible hardships to the country I am born in. The few items I have managed to save, mean the world to me. Naturally they are objects, I can lose them easily, but that will never erase the history and sacrifices behind them, in which I hold in my memories and heart dearly.
I knew he was going to die, but even then it was so sad. It makes us rethink about how we treat our family and parents especially. it was very touching. :)
As an avid audience of short films, i must say it is both moving and relatable to me the values of kinship is deeply ingrained in Asian culture. Though i sort of expected the demise of the grandfather, i do understand that that is only to allow the underlying meaning of the umbrella. Hope to see more of such great work! :) Haha in fact, i am inspired by such sort stories that reflects our lives and i hope one day i could successfully create short films and inspire others too.
Everytime im watching ur videos it always makes me cry but this time it gets to the point i cant breathe anymore coz im crying too much.. Your just so good to make people realized every single things in this world is important.. I love u
a very touching short film of Love and care. i miss my parents.. so much (crying while im typing this) thankyou more power Guys. love the story so much
Good job Clayton Lai! Best bit I love is towards the end bit, where the father tried to buy the umbrella by pawning his watch and the shop keeper's 买鞋,送雨伞. Those are the men I grew up learning from. Thank you.
I really loved this video. Makes me remember our moments with my father. Say,... where can i buy that kind of umbrella? Three decades and it's still good. :)
I loved it too.It is so sad to loose your parent. He looks after you all the time you loved him and finnaly he is dead just before the child is born.Baby hasnt seen him and this is sad.
CHERISH EVERY DAY NO MATTER WHERE LIFE BRINGS US ALL, WE ARE ALL HERE TOGETHER TO SHARE BIG OR SMALL JUST BE YOU THANK YOU FOR SHARING AND TEACHING US ALL LOVE YOU
I'm in school with tears running down my cheeks and I'm blowing my nose like crazy. I'm holding back STILL so I swear if I was at home I would be dead! 😥
I hope this kind of short story will be useful for grown-up people whose parents' becoming old. There should be time for their father to feel that they love each other. It will be useless if you keep your love without exposing your love to your parents.
Hats off to your efforts for spreading awareness! :). We all forget sometimes forget the importance of family. But by seeing such a beautiful short film,I know many will realize... And its all that is important :'))
Getting so attached to things because they remind us of someone always seemed normal to me. When u lose something someone u love that's gone gave you its more than just losing an object
We can learn to watch this short film & must be felt with the heart. One of the people don't know what is the meaning of "PROMISE". Most of the people couldn't take their promise... Everybody should be learn how to keep the promise..........
I read the comments while watching the video and when he was gonna leave I was yelling, "NO DON'T YOU DARE MAKE HIM DIE BEFORE SEEING HIS GRANDCHILD" :'(
"The Promise" is a heartwarming story about a widowed father and his son, whose lives are intertwined with a red umbrella they share. Spanning three decades, from the 1980s to modern-day Singapore, their story culminates in a revelation about the umbrella and how it symbolizes a promise that binds three generations past, present and future.
a very captivating video, apart from the really good actors, i feel that the plot is just stunning and catches the heart of the viewers. keep more videos coming in :)
Sometimes we forget that our parents had grown old and not the same like in the younger years. It hurts me to see my sister still get my mum to make the dumplings every year when her movements are so slow but my mum always do it because she loves us. Likewise his son should had went hospital with him, do not forget your parents are nt young and well as they grow older.
How could 34 people dislike this touching video? It teaches a very important lesson to all of us?
ikr
