      Hi Steve and Ivana,
Nice trip to Rantau Panjang. By the way I like your jersey, nice gift. SAIFUL 35. Great deal. Eventho, that salesman at the shop sell it at RM60 over RM55 but you get your print at no cost. Which is flat at RM60. Just imagine you get it at RM55 and you pay print at RM5 so total will be RM60.
God know the best for you. Anyway, try to do some vlog like this. Nice to watch.
Stay safe and happy exploring Steve and Ivana. Chow.

If you go to Tumpat, there are like 3-5 massive Buddha statue with different position at each wat (temple), the architecture is very interesting. (Wat machimmaran, wat phikulton, wat maisuwankiri etc). And there's a lot of thai kampung. Also the oldest mosque in Malaysia, Masid Kampung Laut, but it has been moved to another district.

Oh wow, you went to Rantau Panjang?😱 That’s my hometown. What Syed said about Malaysia-Thailand border is true. We have relatives over Thailand and during Eid, the road into and out of Thailand became jammed as many of us will cross the border to visit our families.
FYI, Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani are Malay Muslim majority states of Thailand. We were separated because of Japan agreement with Thailand during Japanese occupation. At the time, 7 Malay states (Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis) were given to Thailand as a gift from Japan for giving them access to cross and colonise Malaya.
After Japan surrender in World War 2, British obviously wanted to take their colonies back but only managed to get 4 out of the 7 Malay states (Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu and Perlis) in 1909 Anglo-Siamese treaty. That’s how we Malay families were separated into two countries. No matter our nationalities, we’re still Malay and we’re still families.

And if you ask for water they will give you food as well. And if you ask to buy fruits on a tree in their compound they will give you for free. That’s kampong folks for you.

You mentioned some of the people there prefer to live in Malaysia... it's mainly because the southern Thailand region is a bit unstable due to religious issues... As I mentioned at Ken's vlog, that part of Thailand used to be a part of a Malay dynasty. So, it's not a surprise that the people were and are mostly Muslim if not all. As for the daily commute to and fro... it's an open secret. I believe the authorities turn a blind eye... until the pandemic happened hence the fences being put up.

The river that borders Malaysia and Thailand is called Sungai Golok (Golok River). That narrow river was determined as border between Kelantan and Thailand in 1909 by the British. The Anglo-Siamese Treaty in 1909 split the Malay-Muslim state of Kelantan to be under British protectorate and the Malay-Muslim state of Pattani as Thailand territory. Because Thailand's government was under military style administration since 1930s, there are many revolts from the Malay-Muslim territories of southern Thailand as they prefer to join Malaysia, because they are predominantly Malay-Muslim people. But, nothing can be done now. The town on the Thailand's side is called Tak Bai. People from both places still can cross the borders before this Covid-19 pandemic. Now, Malaysia and Thailand close the borders mainly because to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Southern Thailand is dominated by ethnically Malay people of Thai nationality. Most of the Thai people today are mainly Tai-Kadai people who originated from Southern China who migrated a few centuries ago. If you go to the southern part of Thailand, such as Krabi, Satun, Yala, Pattani, Songkla, Narathiwat and Trang, you can find some similarity in food with Malaysia.

southern thailand is predominantly malay people same as in malaysia. only the international border divide us apart. in the past, southern thailand was under malay ruler and Pattani historically was a great malay kingdom. the fact that people didn't know is that bangkok itself is first inhabited by malay people, even the name bangkok is derives from malay word "bengkok" which showing the bent route of the chao phraya river.

Rantau Panjang is a popular destination for Malaysian bargain hunters of handicrafts. Since it's close proximity to Thailand, a lot of Thai crafts can be obtained at cheap prices. The shops in town are usually crowded with local tourists looking for home decorations and souvenirs. Due to the Covid Pandemic, local tourists aren't travelling around. Buses travel almost empty as people are cautious to travel.
Many years ago, I had the opportunity to cross the river illegally with my friends, by sampan (row boat), without my Malaysian passport or border pass. Once across, had to take a motorbike ride to the small town of Golok, on the Thai side. Went exploring for a few hours and returned by the same means.

Hahaha....Thanks for showing how Rantau Panjang looks like today, nice...
In the 1990s, I was there to visit a friend one morning. I saw him walking coolly across from Thailand side (Golok). He told me that he always go over to the Thai side for meals (cheaper those days, not sure now) just like that...easy going & friendly people...
Also, during the dry season, when the water level is low, you could just walk across, at certain part of the river (Sungai Golok)...Of course, like all borders across the world, there are also some smuggling activities but I believe, it better managed nowadays. Another local friend suggested that we should visit Narathiwat (Thailand side) for the night..I asked what's interesting there? He replied "Cowboy Town!!!" I guessed I chickened out...Hahaha I hope it is OK to add such stories in the comments to share/add "fun/colour/stories" for places that you shared. Great Video. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

Towns on the Thai side of the border usually grow faster than towns on the Malaysian side. This is because Thai towns cater to Malaysians crossing over for entertainment like karaoke bars, night clubs, drinking bars, massage parlours and prostitute joints. Prostitution is illegal in Thailand but the government has turn a blind eye because of the foreign cash flowing into the towns. So most Thai towns on the border with Malaysia are some of the fastest growing towns in the world. Examples are Hat Yai, Danok, Betong and Sungai Golok. These towns have boomed coz the money flowing in through the sex trade. Most of the towns are known as sin cities like Hat Yai which at one time was heavilly frequented by Malaysian and Singaporean men. Now Singaporean men have turned the sights to Batam in Indonesia - a speed ferry ride away from Singapore. Their attention - the NED ( Nagoya entertainment district).

Awesome vlog! If you visit southern Thailand you will notice that goods there are priced in both Thai Baht and Malaysian Ringgit. Ringgit is used interchangeably with Baht. Correct me if i'm wrong, southern Thailand is probably more economically linked (and somewhat dependent) to Malaysia than it is to Northern Thailand.

I think that Jersey making process is called self-screen printing. Hey, I've been there, both sides. The other side is Golok, probably the Southern most tip of Thailand. Golok is where locals (m'sians and kelantanese) go for a dirty outing. Cheap booze, massages, great food and "working girls".
