  • "We build mental models of how the world works and then we apply them to new situations."
In the Decision and Choice making session, User Experience Designer and author Joe Leech talks from a user experience perspective on how to understand the psychology of decision making.
All our past experiences helps us make decisions in present time. Therefore, when designing products and websites, designers should always strive for matching the users mental models with the products. Combine this with a conspicuous design, with images that provokes emotions and your products should be easy for people to understand.

Don't see anything wrong with removing the card at the end. usually gives the possibility to do additional operations.

It's about demonstrating how mental models work. We have both types of ATMs in our country and if you are not used to it, you can forget your card easily. So my mental model is now adjusted: get cash, get card.. I don't know the order in which these will come out. I just know I need to wait for both.

Yes, but when you withdraw cash and your focus would on that than to recall on collecting the card back.

After all, as someone pickups the cash can also get back the card. Common sense isn't it?

You might consider not getting into UX.

I think your perspective aligns more with an implementation model NOT a mental model.

Someone spent £43k on a disease-vector ship, erm, I mean cruise ship?

he could have mentioned how computational thinking influences and directs all such UX UI tech. That human beings (graphic designers) play a very small part in it, as far a creativity goes.
He also sidelines the fact that a lot of our behaviour is now controlled in ways by the lame and not-so-great interfaces built by all these corporations of computational thinkingIn
In essence this is not about any psychology, rather marketing and enabling really problematic technologies... now raise your hands as much as you wish.
