You'll still have to do the IPPT inside the army. Just that if you get silver for your NAPFA, your BMT will be cut short by 2 months. Those who fail NAPFA, will have 2 months of Physical Training + 9 weeks of Basic Military Training. Yeah you'll still learn the rifle stuffs. Last thing, this thing is only eligible if you get PES A or B for your medical checkup, meaning combat fit. If you get PES C or E, you'll have to serve 2 years definitely.
And, you can take your NAPFA anytime you want, but it only last one year. So let say if you take your NAPFA at November 2012, it will only last till November 2013. Means if your enlistment is e.g Jan 2014, you'll have to take again. If your enlistment date is lets say, 20 Jan 2014, if you fail to get silver for your NAPFA before 7 Jan 2014 (2 weeks), you'll have to serve the 2 years of NS. And btw, taking NAPFA is free. You can take as many times as you like.

@vistory You have a valid point, but I think it's because possession of arms is prohibited in Singapore, including rifle parts like the magazine, firing pin, etc. Every component had to be accounted for in the armoury.
when the arty shell lands, fragments disperse out at an angle(15 degrees?) from the ground. so when you keep as low as you can, you increase your chances of surviving. best is behind cover, or in a shellscrape. however, if the arty drops on u then u suay lah, nothing can save u. if ur running around with the arty fragments flying about, ur asking for death. so the best way, is to prone, wait for the bombardment to end, and then run the hell out of the area.

losing a magazine is a serious breach of field discipline? what a joke. only in singapore. i trained with the us infantry while i was in ns, they couldnt be bothered abt losing 1 mag, they just dump it on the ground when the change mags, only to come back to pick it up after and if they find if fine, if they dont then so be it. nothing compromises speed and operational needs.
things to take note: remember to put SAF issue insect repellent lotion apply on ur neck and hands and even ur NO4 uniform if possible ur face too, be prepare the commando trained mosquito, SAF issue insect repellent is the best against them :) but effective time few hours never wash with water after applying... i know is a bit stick and uncomfortable after applying, u want to get dengue fever u can dont apply :)

Did they improve the formula? I remember our facepaint running down in streaks with our sweat...
pls la, bmt is wayang. from recruit to pc. unit is the deal. where got camo left to right? its impt to cover the protruding features, not look like tiger. just look at the spec camo and u know wads wrong with the corriculum.they dun teach camo like this in unit.

@34601k dude they can only go home at the end of the week for 2 days, losing that magazine may cause him to lose that privilege (worse case scenario) i.e he has to stay in camp for 9 days without being able to go home, and that SUCKS hard
