    bro, I cant express how awesome it is to have found you. learning this stuff without any mentor is difficult, its touch and go! my needles KEEP sticking in the fake skin and im realizing that im being rather impatient and pushing lines too fast, not pulling them. your other video where you did the outlines showed me that. your demeanor and way of explaining things hits just right. thank you for what you do, I know im not the only one who appreciated your tips. cheers bro, happy new subscriber here!

Awesome to hear you are figuring out your hand speed to voltage cause thats very important when starting out and still is. And thank you again Productions Im more then happy to hear the channel has helped you out and im glad to have you on board with us. I wish you nothing but the best as you continue down this journey and Keep Rocking!! 🤘🤘🤘

    hey! I have a question; could you show a video of what each type of mag needle looks on the skin? for example, the different sizes and how it actually looks on the skin, how a 9 curved mag looks vs a 9 straight mag (bug pin or regular) and kinda compare different sizes and what they would be most useful for when tattooing? it would be so very helpful in my shading journey! thank you! love the videos, keep it up 👍✊

      Yeah Heather I might actually do that I’ll add it to my video list. I’m sure that could really help a lot of people out. Not sure when that video came out but I’ll certainly add it to the list but in the meantime I encourage you to just mess around with different needles buy a couple different boxes get some fake skin and mess around and find what you really think looks great and works for you!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘

    thank you so much for putting the time you do into this channel. you are honestly my number1 resource for learning how to do this, aside from practice lol. I'm not on real skin yet but I just wanted to say, I feel like oranges take ink way faster than fake skin. Not sure how useful that is but i have noticed it. Again thank you for being such a chill channel, you seem like a cool dude

  • @brookeross9164

    I don’t know if you’ve covered this before but what are you using to wipe off the ink right away? Is it just a paper towel with solution on it? And do you use the same one or a lot through out the tattoo? I have learned a ton from you but I’ve found that my ink bleeds all over the fake after a rub it off making it harder to see the places I haven’t shaded..thank you for your help! I watch your videos daily

    Hey there! I am a true beginner for this. I have been drawing and tracing since I was a child it's always been a passion of mine. And I've decided to take the next step into tattooing. Though I know absolutely nothing about how it all works. Nothing about the difference between all the needles or voltage. Or anything at all. But I'm desperate to learn. I'm planning on buying my first machine in a few weeks. I need to know firstly what is the best brand and type of machine to practice and start out with as a beginner? What does everyone think I need to get started and please share videos with me that can help me out. I'm truly excited about this. I can't wait to get started. Any help to give me more knowledge would be awesome.

    Hey! I randomly had a question after doing my first lines and forms on the fake skin yesterday. It is about the depth 😂 I know about what depth I should go and the theory, but in actually practice it's a bit harsh on me 😅 As I'm not an apprentice I learn it all privately without someone being able to show me. How should the backside of the tattooed fake skin look? Should there be anything seeable or should there be no imprints of the front side at all? Would it be possible that you show the backside of the fake skin? Or is there already a video existing that shows the backside?
    Thanks already and keep on bein awesome! ✌️

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I understand what you are saying. Before I can answer this question I need to know what type of fake skin are you using? Some fake skin is really thin while others are some what thicker. Either way you dont want to be punching through the fake skin.

    • @black_catsrival2386
      @black_catsrival2386 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a very thin fake skin of maybe max 1,2mm! At the beginning it went through a few times, then it was just a few lines see able at the back and by now there isn't anything to see. As it is such a thin fake skin i wondered if there should be any sign of ink or the tattoo on the back!
      Thank you a lot for taking your time helping out in the comments :)

    one thing I've noticed while ive been shading fake skin is that i can see the lines from all the multiple needles in the grouping. is this common with fake skin or is it just bad technique? I'm really enjoying all your videos! I'm just getting into drawing and tattooing all at the same time so I doubt I'll have any luck with an apprenticeship and I figured I might as well start teaching myself how to tattoo just in case I gotta do this the old school way! Thanks so much for your vids on this!

    Hey man these vids really help. I've been drawing my entire life. Started doing artwork 30 yrs ago as a toddler. Finally I've decided to start tattooing, so I bought the cheap beginner machine off amazon for 50$ and it came with fake skin. Your channel helps me out. I'm a little confused on why I need put vaseline on the fake skin though. I think I'm putting to much on the fake skin, it's making it hard to line through the globs of jelly. I'm using a cheap coil gun.

    Messing about and I found a system that works really well for shading silicone skins (haven't tried it on real skin yet so can't know how it may look). Instead of standard greywash I found if I use 5 large caps:- 1 full black 1 full white, then 2/3 full of white, 1/3 white, and finally just the bottom of the cap white and one drop of black in each of these 3 then fill them up with witch Hazel or distilled water not only do they shade really nicely but you can physically see the shade when you look at the cap! hope this helps somebody

      i felt this so hard, i’m a very small town with only two tattoo shops. I’m hoping I could get an apprenticeship at either though regardless they’re pretty good. I like their work. Crossing my fingers! been debating on a artistic career for years (19 now going on 20 lol) it’s quite overwhelming. But I noticed doing finalized pieces and a lot of black pieces, and the freelance and other things that come with tattooing works for me :) Still working out my creative muscles though. Haven’t been drawing for a while. Trying to get out of the rut and get my artistic career started!

    do you have a good recommendation for a starter needle setup? I'm thinking a box of larger liners (11 or 13) smaller liners (maybe 7) and maybe a 11 mag shader box and not sure besides that. Maybe a box of bugpin shaders or something. I'm mostly interested in traditional, starting black and gray and eventually going toward colors after getting started. Mostly unsure of what sizes and what shaders

    I just want to say thank you for the videos you make, they have been super helpful. I have a few questions. What paper is best to use to build a portfolio? Or just create drawings in general? Also What recommendations do you have to make colorful drawings more vibrant? Right now Im just trying to practice and build a portfolio, so I'm not trying to spend to much money. I know in this industry its kinda hard to do, but what tips and tricks do you have to stay on the cheaper side. If there is any lol. Again thank you for your wonderful videos I appreciate everything you do.

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest. If someone walked into the shop with a portfolio of drawings I wouldnt care what paper they drew them on or anything like that. All I want to see is that you have talent and that you have your head screwed on right lol. And lastly I will talk to the person to get an understanding of who they are to see if I could mesh well with that person also. So with all that said just focus on drawing or creating what you like/love. Dont worry about making pieces that look like tattoos and what not just be you and create what you like and if they say no then keep your head up and stay true to yourself. I hope this info helped a little and best of luck to you on this journey!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Would you have any ideas as to why, when lining, some lines seems to cut super deep into the fake skin layer? I try to apply the same pressure everywhere and I don't find those cuts on every line of my tattoos, only on 3-4 segments of lines. Not sure if I'm making myself very clear...

    Hope all is well bro. I'm glad that you threw that out about practice skin requires more ink. Cause I've seen some people who get a kit and just go. And they go over a line over and over again. Then it becomes a shiny purple and we know shiny purple is a sign of damage to the skin. And they expect me to do a cover up but I always decline. Cause I don't want to damage the skin even more.

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I know what you are talking about there. And I dont blame you for not wanting to cover, that up with cover ups
      already being a challange enough let alone adding damaged skin to the list. But to be completely honest I do damage the skin from time to time. Its not often and I always fix it but it does happen. And I just also want people to know that
      we all are not perfect and we all are still striving to be better. Thanks King I appreciate you brother!! And dont stop Rocking! 👍🤘🤜👊🤛🤘👍

    So how hard is the transition from practice skin to real from scale 1-10? Or do it depends on person? Also do you determine what needle by what your tattooing ?

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      First yes you decide what needle to use depending upon what you are tattooing and how large you want the lines to be and what not. As far as transferring from fake skin to real skin that can be tricky for some and easy for others. Things to keep in mind is that fake skin is tough to use and real skin is a bit easier however you have to keep in mind that on real skin if you go to deep you can blow lines out and also cause damage to the skin if you are working an area to much, while on fake skin you really cant blow lines out or over work an area. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck. Keep at it and Keep Rocking!!! 🤘🤘

    Hey dude, just wanted to say a massive thank you for the videos, they've helped me a lot, I have a quick question if I may? I'm trying to get thick bold lines for traditional work, practising on fee skin, I'm using a 12 14RL and I'm happy with my line work, it just doesn't seem as wide as some of the photos I see, is ti about needle size or depth, sculpting lines or all of it? I've heard of people using 12 7RS for lining but surely theses lines won't hold so well?

      No problem Mal happy the vids are helping you out brother!! 🤘🤘 Try using a 14 round shader, as they make pretty nice solid fat lines. Practice with the round shader on your fake skin and see how you like it. And thanks again Mal I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel!! 👍👍

      For me starting off at home learning on my own I didn’t really advertise too much it was all just word-of-mouth. Remember every tattoo you do is a walking billboard for you. So do the best you can and your clients will bring you clients. That’s about the best advice I have when it comes to working on your own and building clientele. Hope this helps Frankie best of luck to you keep rockin🤘🤘🤘🤘

      When you’re first starting out don’t worry about having to give a cut to the shop. You’re name isn’t out there yet so an established shop will be driving traffic to you and keeping you busy. Open your own shop once your name is known in your city but in the meantime just view the shops cut of the pie as you paying for advertising.

    • @ArtSomething

      If it’s fading or the tattoo is gone then it more than likely wasn’t put into the skin properly. You need to hit the proper layer of skin for the ink to stick. Would it be the same voltage but different hand speed for shading depending on desired effect of shading (packing ink and gradation)?

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah with the CNC i run about 7.8 volts for everything. Some times I will adjust but its small amounts like 7.5 to 7.8. Most of it has to do with hand speed and needle depth. Hope this helps Eduardo and thanks for watching!! 🤘🤘🤘

    I got fake skin, and I just can't shade on it. I can't get soft edges. It's a nightmare. And I have a question about smaller needles, can you get softer edges with them? and when I do the pendulam/wip technique (kinda similar to how one would use a pencil to fill in- zigzag motion) The corners of each line end up being darker. And then I get this unwanted set of dark spots. Is that common? I have only used this fake skin so I'm assuming that real skin doesn't behave like this cuz I can't imagine anyone can do anything with the fake skin I got. If that's not common, I'll get new and better one. Would love any help or advice

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a lot of needle brands. I havent come close to trying them all. I like to use kwadrons but there are other who dont like them. Some people like the bigwasp and others dont. SO I would say try a pack of one brand and if you like them then stick with it for a while. Then try a box from another brand and just sorta test them out a little at a time. • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great idea Carmen 👍 I could definitely make a video about that, I’ll added to the video list. But often times I like to design the tattoo digitally with procreate. Then print it and shade or color it using charcoal or colored pencils. There’s something about holding a pencil in your hand and shading that just feels more natural to me. However I spent quite a while shading all my work digitally before I realized I prefer just using charcoal for black and gray and colored pencils for well color tattoos. Thanks again for the idea and I appreciate you watching Carmen keep rocking!!!🤘🤘👊🤘🤘

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest you can do whatever works best for you. But the idea is that if you work dark to light then your light colors or shades wont get messed up with the darker ink being wiped across it. SO if you put the darks in first then you dont have to worry about it. But there are times when I will work light to dark just depends upon what im doing.
