    Another Great video. Not easy to find a checkered front strap on a factory Colt, big up arrow on future value. Really wish they would have put a baby flair on the ejection port , just to keep brass from getting dinged. Yes, you are absolutely right about Colt prices and value. Even the poorly assembled ones sell easy. About 10 years ago I bought a 5.5 inch Colt SAA for $1200, never shot it, still in the box. Today the same gun goes for about $2200, and are never in stock anywhere. A Colt is A Colt and people will want them forever. The Colt Cool factor is off the charts.

    If you like the look of the spur but the shorter profile of the commander hammer look for a 1960s-70s stub hammer. Its short but retains the look. I bought 150 of them for customer builds and only have 5 left im keeping for myself.
    I hate the flared port, i wish they would have done done a stainless barrel.
    The WC parts are all made for Colt and his customs can only be done on a WC or Colt frame. He was asked why once and he said that Colt is the standard, they never change and he wanted to support American made products. Best answer. Colt/CZ is keeping it alive and from what I have heard, CZ is not allowed to make a single product outside of the US with Colt on it.

    Nice review of both Colts. I can't belive how much the Colt Classic went up in price ,I paid $700.00 out the door in 2019. I'm with you on the Colt SE-A1 1911. Thanks for the video, Slim.

    If you try to upgrade a Tisas or a Springfield ( Anything with .220 radius) try to find the old King’s gunworks # 204 . Fits and works as good as Wilson drop in on Colts. No frame alterations.

      The Kings stuff is getting hard to find though... I used their parts on the project gun for gunsmitthing school. I used a Wilson gold bead in the front with a Bomar rear from the 1980s. My second build was a AMT alongside with a long Bomar top rail and accu-rails I also did see-through hyzod grips and windowed magazines. It was nice and I made a ton on it. One of my instructors bought it from me. He wanted it to show students... it was setup like a all out open class pistol in longslide form with see through grips like the ASP. I tried finding a 1980 surefire laser for it but couldnt.

    I am not a big fan of Colt 1911’s, but don’t ever underestimate the value and utility of front strap checkering and high undercut in 1911’s.
    Not only are those features useful, and expensive to have done they require a refinish.
    The metal main spring housing is a nice touch.
    Good video.
    Regards,
    Marky

    I was going to buy a Wilson Combat beavertail grip safety for my colt. You mentioned it wouldn't work with a stock spur hammer just curious as to why. Love your videos. Nice job

    • @1963shay
      @1963shay 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      The spur is too long and won’t allow a full cock. The hammer can be bobbed or a commander or delta hammer used.

      @@ericoulundsen5041 if you go that route just be aware that you are reducing the mass of the hammer and that could possibly lead to ignition problems. Probably not but it is a possibility. 🤠

    Excellent video. Question: If you get a Colt factory grip safety with bump, and a factory ring hammer, will they just slide into a colt with no hand fitting? (Same answer with putting upgraded Springfield factory parts into a Mil Spec?) Thanks.

    • @1963shay
      @1963shay 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No the tang of the frame will have to be modified. Not generally a diy project.

    Nice looking colts. The se looks like the Wiley Clapp edition I had. Sold it immediately cause It was so bad . Rattled like crazy, thumb safety was loose and spongy, the grip safety was loose, the slide was loose.

      I own the LE Colt 1911 and the grip safety rattles like crazy. However, the gun shoots like a dream and is very accurate.

    Glad there are no "not like they used to make them" comments here. I have a all original, near mint Commercial Model (still in the box) that was made in 1951. It has a unusable safety and rattling slop everywhere, as well as insanely crooked grinds so bad that the trigger guard grind actually goes under the slide stop(!) It absolutely left Hartford that way. My 2020 Classic is in all ways a better gun.

      I had an older colt from the 80s where the slide wouldn’t lock back. The slide release wasn’t fitted properly and had to grind it down to function 😬

    I have both of those pistols. Your review is spot on. The blueing on the limited edition is better. My classic came with a few dings on it right out of the box and I've added more even being careful with it.

    I own the LE Colt 1911 and was not expecting much from it at the range. However, it is very tight and I shot some excellent groups.

    for me my new colt limited edition out shoots my kimber warrior all because of that undercut trigger guard.

    Like the Novak's on the Colt. Personally I think they add to the overall looks of the gun. Same with the Commander hammer. Whatever floats your boat! Nice comparison between the two Matt.
