Took my 2016 in for an oil change at the Honda dealership on 2/6/18, today I noticed that the plastic access panel under the engine is DRAGGING on the ground. Like none of the screws were put in... Or they managed to strip all of them. Really upset right now and taking the car to the dealership in the morning. Great video by the way. Now I know how many screws and clips there should have been.
great video but i always pre-fill the oil filter so to prevent the engine from starting dry
Good Job, You Helped Me big time. Just bought a 2015 Fit EX-L. I agree that the dealer is wrong to tell the customer, that it is fine to go 10K on a oil change. I agree with you.
They (dealer) owe me the first oil changes and a tire rotation.

I’ve watched at least one other video on this topic. Yours is easily understood by a layperson. I almost feel ready to perform this task, but those plastic screws have me a little concerned. I would also need ramps, or perhaps a floor jack, and an oil filter wrench. Still it seems fairly simple. Interesting that the oil was fairly dark in color with the oil monitor at 60%. I drive about 7K miles per year, but try to change the oil in a little less than that. You really should clarify that oil level is never checked with the engine running, and it should probably be several minutes after it’s been switched off. Thanks for this video. Get yourself an assistant to hold the camera. What is your name on the forum?

Terrific instructional video. Thank you! I see you lifted the car using ramps. Do you know where the front lift point is for a rolling jack? Usually it would be in the center between the left and right side of the car, and back a few feet from the front of the car but I didn't see it when I looked under my Fit.

Good video. The only thing I'd like to add is that you can't check the oil accurately with the engine running. The engine should be shut off then wait a couple of minutes for all the oil to drain back into the drain pan. Then check.

horsequick Also, after you change the oil, check the oil level BEFORE you start the engine for the first time. Make sure it's at or above the bottom mark. Then you can drive or roll off of the ramp. Put the car on a level surface. Let the car sit for 5 minutes without the engine running. Then check the oil again. It should be up to the top mark.

I just finished my 3rd oil change on my 2015 Fit. Each time I changed Oil , I always reviewed the fine Video "
2015 Honda Fit - DIY Oil and Filter Change & Oil Level Reset Procedure (How to Video) " by ijcentral. before changing my oil. Today when changing the oil and filter, when I removed my oil filter, the oil seal on the old filter remained stuck to the metal that the seal butts up to. I took no notice of the seal that remained stuck. I screwed on my new filter and thought that I had made a good seal with the gasket. I finished the rest of the procedures, took my Fit off of the jack stands, started the engine to let it idle for a little while to fill the oil filter and then check the oil level. I turned off the ignition and stepped out of the car to discover what looked like 2 or three quarts of 0 - 20 Mobile One Synthetic , on the concrete under and around my Honda. After I cleaned up most of the leaked oil, got under the car and discovered that the old oil seal had remained and that seal and the seal on my new filter made for a very poor seal. I just didn't take notice of the old oil seal that did not come off with its oil filter. My next oil change I will know to check for that old oil seal and make sure it is taken off. I used a Fram tough Guard and the seal from that filter stayed on.

That is a good post reminding everyone to check if the old seal and the crusher washer are properly removed before installing new ones. Keep a bottle of that oil absorbing pellets just in case messy cleanups are needed.
With the way winter is, and how cars tend to BASH their bottom against ice ridges and packed snow banks in the winter, that plastic tray is going to get busted to pieces in less than 3 years, so if I had a FIT I would simply drop that plastic belly-pan and put it some place safe in the garage. That way when it comes time to sell the car then plastic can be re-attached and the car looks as good as new.
I would rather leave the plastic for protection of the Oil pan and under-body corrosion prevention, when it comes time to sell the car, a replacement plastic shouldn't cost over $20 dollars. That's just my opinion.
The plastic part is called the splash guard. It breaks easily. I hit a pothole and now I have a big hole in it. $400 to replace. Nice, Honda.
Very nice video. I do have questions. How long should I wait for my first oil change? I'm at 2800 miles from 3000. My oil life is at 70%. In every car that I ever owned the oil was changed every 3000 miles. Should I wait till it goes down to 20% oil life? And where is the transmission dipstick so that I can check the level? Or is there not one? I'm so confused. Thanks.

Thank You for showing us oil change do it yourselfers how you do it on the 2015 Honda fit.I also do not like the plastic cover that has to be removed each time you do an oil change and I would venture to think that eventually the screws will wear and strip after a while of on and off.
I have a question though and I asked Honda about it
I noticed at the end you reset your oil maint indicator from 60 percent back to 100 percent but I guess because it was done earlier you did not have the little wrench light on in the dash that also comes on.Honda told me that when the wrench indicator light reminder comes on you have to go to Honda so they can clear that.
I guess Im asking did you ever get the wrench light on and can it be turned off by yourself ???
Im not a fan of going to Honda everytime the wrench light comes on so they have to reset it.

+Dex - The wrench automatically comes on when you hit 15% oil level. Doing the same process as I described in the video clears/resets the wrench and the oil life indicator.

can you share a video of how you removed the push-pins? unfortunately I broke part of the brackets that held in the push-pin
use a philips screwdriver to unscrew the pushpins. With a bit of effort eventually the pin will come loose. An electric screwdriver makes the job a lot easier.

I saw the codes A and sub-code 1 pop up....Did you rotate your tires too? Pretty sure that's what sub-code 1 means. I just changed my oil for the first time and I had 5,960 miles at 30%, I didn't wait for the maintenance minder either now i'm confused... Did I reset just the oil or whatever popped up which was "A and sub-code 1" ? Or because I saw code A and 1 should I rotate my tires too? What codes did you get for you next oil change?
JustJoshin27 You are right A1 is Oil change + Tire rotation/inspection/check air pressure. If you can go ahead and rotate the tires too.
Honda Fit Manual indicates that for the first oil change, it's important to leave the factory oil until 15% oil life per the maintenance minder. Something to do with letting the engine break in properly. Did you consider this before doing the change?
You brought a very good point, I should have mentioned it. Yes Honda does recommend leaving the first oil long as possible to ensure proper break in happens. They add an additive called molybdenum-disulfide to the oil to ensure better lubrication during the break in. Knowing that the break in period is only 600 miles, I think it is safe to change the oil around 5k in my case esp with putting lot of stress to the car. But that's just personal preference. Most modern synthetic oil comes with decent amount of additives that does the same job as Honda's factory oil. Not to mention Moly is available as an additive too. Just to be clear, I am not recommending anyone to change the oil as soon as you get the car, I am just showing How to change when needed.

I also have the 2015 honda fit and I put 3.3 liters as it is written in owner's manual. After I put 3.3 liters(3.5 qt), i felt the engine sounds more noisy and my MPG has dropped down. Don't you have same symptoms? Or should i really put 3.5qt?
+minho Kim, I don't see any difference in the engine noise level or vibration.
I would suggest you
1. check your oil level again with the dip stick first.
2. Make sure the eco button or A/C is not on.
3. Then also see if you used the correct oil weight. OW20 synthetic is what Honda calls for. Thanks.

+minho Kim this is what I read on forums, if you put in thicker oil ex 5w-30. The gas mileage will drop.
I just did the first oil change for my honda fit and I have the same issue. But using an STP6607 oil filter and 0W-20 fully synthetic. I used to get 36mpg but now 30mpg.
@MR2 WolfPack Seems like its not the quantity that will cause your symptoms, its the quality of the oil used. Did you use a thicker oil by any chance?

John stack Fairings are generally in place to help improve aerodynamics and thereby fuel economy and cabin noise. However, you could totally leave it off if you don't care about those things.
THE BATeman I heard some say the under panel also shields the engine compartment from road debris.

I only had my oil and filter changed a few weeks ago by someone, but the service light and oil life came up as 15%. Did the person who did the change not do the reset? Not sure if the car has some computer that detects the life of the oil.
Bart Simpson yes the person forgot to reset. There is no automatic oil quality measure. It is based on mileage and number of engine hours etc. Do a reset yourself.

Why SAE 0W20?? When the temperature of the engine load is 0W20 small.
kotenockyn because Honda says so! Most of the modern direct injections engines take 0W20 and nothing else.

What is the ideal KMs for the 1st oil change...
First oil change leave it as long as possible till the maintenance minder comes to 10%. The Kms differ for everyone based on the driving. To generalize it, approximately 8000km.

Its some generic gripping tool from harbor freight tools. I do have a proper oil filter removal tool, which works much better, but couldn't find it when I needed it.
How do you remove the two plastic screws?
Unscrew with a Phillips screwdriver first and then pry it out with a flat head or your hand.

Does this car have aluminum pans for oil and trans fluid? Also does the owners manual specify what maintenance needs to be done for the car? I am thinking of getting this car and dealer tells me that no scheduled maintenance for the first 100000 miles. Thanks
Yes they both are aluminum. Owners manual does not say what to do on which mileage. Instead the car tells what to do when based on your driving and other fluid conditions. Dealer is approximately right in saying that no maintenance for the first 10k. But if you drive with a lead foot, your oil change light will come within 5k miles.

Thanks for the info. How is the new replaced battery holding up? I'm planning on adding a solar panel with charge controller to help heep the battery topped off when the car is not in use so it has less chance of self discharge.
LoveAviation The battery is holding up good. In spite of the car sitting for 5 days in arctic freeze weather, it started right up today. I think your solar panel idea is a good one, just make sure it is a quality one (higher constant amps/watts). The cheap ones are pretty much useless.

I already have a 10W good quality panel with controller in my current car that I got on amazon for about $45. I know it works as I see the led on the controller light up as soon as it has enough light to output back to battery. Thanks for the info.
