Is Charles Leclerc F1's Unluckiest Driver? 🤔

- After Charles Leclerc retired from the Brazilian GP he questioned "why am I so unlucky?" Sounds like a question we need to answer!
On multiple occasions this season, Charles seemed to be on the receiving end of bad luck. From hydraulic failures to team errors he's suffered them all! We break down all situations that have hindered Charles in this and past seasons and ponder is it all really bad luck?

every time you think you are having a bad day, remember what Charles Leclerc goes through
Yeah, gets paid millions every week to drive for Ferrari in the Formula One World Championship, and on top of all of that, he has the looks of a model...man he has such a tough life. 🤣
@@AdamantJHS I was gonna say, op tripping. Niggas literally dying from starvation, but hey, poor Charles 🥺
If you're ever having a bad day, remember you didn't purchase WTF1 and run it into the ground. acting like "The race" F1 channel
@@AdamantJHS True lol, but from a sports competitor man its gotta be rough being Charles when all you care about in life is performing on track.
I actually have bad days because of him having bad days
It is really weird that ferrari usually fuck things up only for leclerc sainz has had mechanic issues but bad strategies misscommunications and bad pitstops usually happen only at lec. He is indeed very unlucky :(
Didn't even mention about losing his father, his mentor and a close friend at a really young age. That's unlucky!
Alesi, Barrichello, maybe Amon are all among Ferrari's most jinxed drivers
Amon was probably the unluckiest driver in F1 history. 183 laps led in his career, enough to with the Belgian Grand Prix (for example) 4 times over, yet he could not, for the life of him, win a Grand Prix. My favourite example of his bad luck was the last race at Monza before chicanes were installed to slow the cars down, the 1971 Italian Grand Prix. He qualified on pole and after much slipstreaming racing, he eventually found himself leading by over 40 seconds as the race drew to a close. But just as he looked set for a long overdue first win, disaster struck. He tried to remove a tear-off strip from his visor, but instead, accidentally ripped off the whole visor. With his eyes exposed to the 200 mph wind blasts, he could only cruise slowly round, losing the lead and eventually finishing just in the points in 6th place
@@SiVlog1989 Painful..... I can imagine his humiliation
Of the current pool of drivers yes. He is the unluckiest driver.
Clearly a DTS fan with no wheel knowledge. It’s all Leclercs fault
He’s tied with George on that one.
@@ChasingTheSunrise2 😂
@@ChasingTheSunrise2Yes, crashing out of the grand prix because he lost the hydraulics is definitely his fault
Isnt Ocon the one with most mechanical dnf ?
It used to be Rubens. I remember when people would joke that they wouldn’t get on the same flight home after races as he was so unlucky, followed by Massa.
At least few people has had Maldonaldo level.
I don't think Leclerc is as unlucky as he said in the heat of the moment. To me, Chris Amon is the embodiment of right place at the wrong time, or snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. He led a whoping 183 laps in his career, enough to win the current number of race laps for the Belgian Grand Prix (44 laps in a race), just over 4 times, but could not, for the life of him, take the chequered flag first. Monza 1971, the last race on the prechicane layout of Monza, was a case in point in his bad luck. He qualified on pole, but as the race drew to a close, just as he looked set for his long overdue first win, disaster struck in a totally freak accident. While trying to remove a tear-off strip from his visor, he accidentally ripped off the whole visor. With his eyes exposed to the sheer wind blasts, he could only slow down, eventually finishing a distant 6th place
We're not talking about the old past. BLAH BLAH Leclerc is SUPER UNLUCKY
@@FiremarioflowerNice to know you are very ignorant my friend.
@@Firemarioflower at least Leclerc has won races, Chris Amon never did in F1
@@SiVlog1989 Yes, but not this season.... he wasn't stricken with this much bad luck in 2019.
I am sorry for my insensitive comment earlier. I do respect Amon, he was also a Le Mans driver. I've yet to learn more about him or that era cuz unlike what my OC would maybe suggest, i love the classic F1 years too.
I can't help but be frustrated for Charles, with how Fail-a-rrari can be so bad ..... it's disheartening. All the hate comments on him, as well as his season unravel to finish behind Norris and Sainz (again, like in 2021)
Leclerc was brilliant to win those races. Good on him. He could've even have won more, but alright, yeah, it must suck to never have a GP win.
Poor Chris. He was amazing.
@@Firemarioflower apology accepted, this is why looking at the careers of drivers from the past enables perspective on the stats of a driver's career. When I was younger, I gained a liking for Mark Webber, because I felt that he was one of those rare things in Motorsport, a genuinely nice guy. Little did I know that between his debut in 2002 until before his first podium of his career at Monaco in 2005, his best finish would be fifth. Every time he seemed to be in a promising position, something would happen that left him much worse we than he started (Malaysia 2004 for example, qualified second behind only the dominant Ferrari of Michael Schumacher, but a terrible start left him almost last, a puncture picked up while racing Ralf Schumacher left him at the back and a late race spin into the gravel left him out of the race). After a miserable 2006 season with Williams (where they lost BMW engines and Webber suffered a dismal 11 D NF's) I wondered when he joined the (at the time) only slightly more competitive Red Bull Racing, whether he would ever win a race. Then, after he broke his leg and shoulder in the off season between 2008/09, I thought, he's never going to win and if Adrian Newey gets it right, he's not going to feel the benefits. This was when I thought (and journalists at the time voiced similar thoughts) that Webber must be the unluckiest driver on the grid. Thankfully, as we know, on his 130th attempt, he finally won a race in F1.
It was around this time I first heard about Chris Amon. Incidentally, before his passing in August 2016, Chris Amon himself voiced a different opinion, pointing out that as he retired from the sport on his own terms and others had their careers ended prematurely in his era of racing (either by career ending injuries or fatal accidents), he considered himself luckier than most, as he lived to tell the tale of his career after he retired from racing
I think he was lucky with the hydraulic failure and when it happened. If that happened during that race, it could have been really bad. With it happening in the formation lap, he was going a lot slower so it didn’t end up being as bad as it could have been 😅
Sure but prolly the same result but don't you think its a bit unlucky to even have the hydraulics issue to begin with
More than luck it is batshit crazy Ferrari strategies that made his mental breakdown
Considering the risk of explosion in his ferrari in Sao Paoulo he was really lucky. We all prefer Leclerc hitting the barriers than trying to fight to get out of a ball of flames.
very great video! (as always)
First unlucky strike started in Bahrain 2019 💔
Legend has it that Chris Amon is still laughing somewhere, after Leclerc claimed that he's so unlucky.
Of The current drivers yes. In the history of f1 no. Chris Amon is the undisputed king of bad luck in f1.
Nice recap of the pain of Charles's fans
Would love to see a win for our boys in Laas Vegas. Especially for Charles after yesterday! Lets go racing in Vegas 🔥 Have a good trip 🙌🏼 ❤🇮🇹 Forza C² ❤❤💪🏽💪🏽 💚🤍❤ Forza Ferrari! 💚🤍❤
Hard to consider somebody with possibly the coolest job in the world of star Ferrari F1 driver to be unlucky.
Luckiest unlucky man
we can say that he is suffering from success
I think he really has a lot of bad luck, but he also himself makes an unusually large number of mistakes for a top driver. Sometimes you also need a clear head, but he often seems to put too much pressure on himself and can't cope with it.
charles also got mugged in monacco
Great video
I dont know. Being a dane i die a little every time Kevin Magnussen comes in last place, has his car has a mechanical malfunction or catches on fire and when he is simply unlucky like this weekend where he couldn’t really go anywhere so he just had to take the hit from albon :(
*from Stuntenberg, the most usless driver on the grid.... the Haas team are clearly favoring the German faker, who always causes incidents and is the easiest to overtake. I don't understand how they can not do it right with Magnussen, who's a wonderful driver. I hope Wiliams will dump Sargent and take Kev instead. He deserves a good team.
I even wouldn't mind seeing Bottas or Zhou go. As long as this brilliant, agressive viking will have a seat and we get to see him do wonderful stuff again.
LeClerc is the Modern day Mansell
Considering all of the "Unluckiest Drivers" are from a team in RED. I can see a pattern here. it might not the be driver
He is becoming the next Felipe Massa
Just hope he's not getting a spring to his head.
I would add Raikkonen's Mclaren years 😅
Came here to say this. Wings flying off, wheels flying off, engines constantly failing...and he still almost won championships....
Brendon Hartly and Chris Amon
Besides Leclerc cases most of it
Well I wouldn't say that...
Currently yes (but half the times its his fault too)
💀but as a person who saw Alonso's mchonda days I'm telling you this is just nothing(ex. In 2017 in 12 races he dnfed/dns like ten times, it was just pain knowing the caliber of driver) and highlights of kimi's mclaren(retiring from leads) days along with Jean alesi Ferrari days this is nothing.
Wtf you mean half of it is his fault?he got unlucky for more than half races last season and he made only 2 driver errors.Im honestly so sick and tired of delusion in you guys he makes 2 errors last season and you guys say"he will crash half the time"Dont know how your brain works at such an NPC level

It's not that great in qualifying either. It's just Leclerc dragging a car to a place it doesn't deserve to be , like third in Bahrain (okay, DNF but it was going to be podium), P2 on the qualifying of Jeddah, pole in the USA, pole in Baku, third place in Baku, third in Spa, second place in Austria, 4th in Japan, third again in Mexico.

Thye will have a fresh new champion, 1-2s every race ..... what's not to like?
Considering F1 is at the forefront of competitive motorsports and cutting edge ingenuity, I really don't understand how the term "luck" gets thrown around this much... it's undoubtedly a realistic variable, but especially in this day and age where you can do things like predict weather conditions or simulate to the last bump on track, AND have an enormous team of world class engineers backing world class drivers, realistically luck has little to do with it. Luck doesnt win championships, and putting this much weight on luck is an insult to the hard work that goes into being the best.
We know Ferrari has/is doing terribly (as much as it pains me to say it...), but maybe it's also time to accept that Leclerc is simply not a champion caliber driver (at least for the foreseeable future until he finds maturity and consistency).
Hate this opinion all you want, but deep down you know it's holding truth🤷

Charles Leclere is on pole because he is IN a Ferrari, but will lose because he drives FOR Ferrari.
Charles is on pole because he's incredibly fast..... that Fail-a-rrari car isn't worthy of poles. Nor was the 2021 car. With a good car, he got the most poles out of everyone (2019 and 2022)
Hamilton always acts like he's F1's unluckiest driver
Hamilton and Max are the luckiest,Max is definitely the luckies driver of all time, hes the only driver ever to get a race winning car every season in the past decade or two and also never gets taken out by someone elses mistakes

Like with Ramilton?

Crashtappen is as undeserving a term as Lecrash.... both Max and Charles are head and shoulders above the rest of the field, with verstappen, the second best driver in the clear best car while the GOTE (greatest of the era) has to deal with a Fail-a-rrari team that can't make a decent car to get to the grid.... what a joke.
