An incredible deep dive into Sebastian Vettel's journey. It's fascinating to see how quickly fortunes can change in F1, from his meteoric rise to the challenges he faced later on. You captured the highs and lows perfectly
I hate it when people say that. He finished 2nd in Hungary after that and won in Spa with the famous "But here comes Sebastian Vettel". Monza really broke him.
Just like Alonso said about his crazy overtake of Schummi: "I remembered he is the father of two kids,..." So he basically knew that Schummi would back down when things got too hary.
"On the final race day, all the drivers gathered to honour him on a emotional display of respect and camaraderie." Meanwhile... *Verstappen kicks his ass*
The same happened at Red Bull. Another driver who was able to beat him constantly joined the team.......... Vettel was unable to deal with it. Both times he started to underpeform even more and ran away instead of taking the challenge and prove that he is a champion. That's about it.
He didn't run away from Ferrari. Ferrari fired him early in the season through a fucking phone call, pure disrespect. Otherwise he would stay at Ferrari.

That’s it. Other than that he was perfect. So 2 mistakes and a perfect run besides 3 huge mechanical failures. Lewis had none of the mechanical stuff, I think nando loses still in 17 for sure, but tbh, without Singapore, Malaysia (Seb wins these 2) and Japan (finishes 2nd here), and then a real Mexican gp that wasn’t just CHAOS because of the champ situation going in, I’d say Seb has a damn good shot of taking it to a title decider. Not for sure winning, but getting it to the last race (that Mercedes was dominant at anyways so he prolly woulda lost 😂😂) Point being 2017 was a no go, he drove very well but did 2 dumb things and had bad reliability so no chance even without mistakes. 2018 on the other hand. The most recent example is Alonso but it's not just him. Lauda and Prost also returned from retirement and they even won a championship. However, I wouldn't bring Seb back either. I think that, outside of such a dominant car, he just couldn’t quite cut it at the top level. Kudos to him as an ambassador for the sport, and he was entertaining to watch. I hope he enjoys his well-earned retirement.
That pair of title shots he had at Ferrari were unquestionably a massive turning point in Vettel's career, especially the latter chance. Had he won both or even one of those, it would have made him a champion at multiple teams and restored Ferrari to championship glory. As it was he lost one he could have won, another he should have and largely through his own mistakes. Hamilton cemented himself as the king of their generation, pushing onwards towards Fangio and Schumacher, while Vettel seemed to lose that edge and self-confidence he'd previously had.
I think another top driver would have won the 2018 championship with that Ferrari or at least be 30 points behind Lewis. No offense to Vettel, who is one of the best drivers in the history but in those years he no longer had the level he showed us in Red Bull. Sorry if I make some mistakes when writing, it's not my first language and I'm still learning.
as a vettel fan I agree his mistakes cost the title (if you estimate conservatively, he would have been neck-to-neck with lewis in points). It was a very odd year, because since the italian grand prix, where he did not get the tow of his team mate in quali, made an error and spun in the race. He never was the same, even though he had peaks in 2019, 2021, 2022. He is mentally tough, as he came back to win titles (even did great in races - tail end of the season (high pressure times) in 2010 and 2012. Idk what politics was played at ferrari that weekend (where kimi was anounced to leave, marchionne (CEO) passed away). But this + the way they fired him (lying to the media). Just put a nail in the coffin on vettel. So close yet so far to be talked in the goat category. I grew to love Sebastian, an absolute relentless legend and a humble guy who paid homage to the champions that came before him, he picked the number 5 at ferrari becuase red 5 was Nigel Mansel's number the last driver Enzo himself picked to drive for the scuderia, he won 15 races at ferrari which is enough to get a title but alot of dubious decisions, went against him in my opinion, I'm becoming very cynical about F1's authenticity as a sport, it's turning more into entertainment and Ssbastian wasn't the same after leaving the scuderia if only, we could find out what happens behind closed doors!
The one thing that goes unmentioned: Vettel seems to skeet out of a team just as he gets a consistently quicker and faster teammate. It has to be one of the reasons he's rarely mentioned in the same breath as other multi-championship F1 drivers. He seems more concerned with hair plugs, appearing super progressive and playing with bees in Japan (how many of those bees survived that whole experience?) than anything else. Fairly textbook "white knight" narcissist.
The clip of break failure at Monza wasnt his fault nor fair, and it was rather rude to include in the moontage of "seb mistakes" and " fall from grace " part of the video
The Italians fell in love too fast with Leclerc. After five years, time proved them wrong. He has won nothing nor will win anything. They should have stick to Vettel.

Ferrari recruited him to be another Michael Schumacher. When he didn't get them the anticipated World Championship, they heaped all the blame on him and ostracised him from the team.
To sum up: Consecutive 4 times world champion. Next year, in his team, ricciardo demolished him. He went to ferrari and underperformed, when leclerc arrived demolished him again since day 1. Then he went to aston martin and retire
Watching Seb lose for Ferrari was a real gutter. He seemed to be his own worst enemy on track and it was so sad to watch his decline over his Ferrari years but as Andybp872 says working with Ferrari aint easy, they've performed like a bunch of amateurs in recent years, its embarrassing.
I'm under the impression that many "great drivers" simply had the best car at the right time. It's like corporate America. You have a guy who simply is an unstoppable force and then is met with equal (if not better) competition. No professional organization is immune from otherwise dominant people who are ultimately defeated by younger up and coming people (when given a winning car). Sebastian made his own career moves and landed in cars that were less than the rest and he simply didn't perform when compared to his teammates. It really goes to show how much of a team sport F1 is. During his day compared to his teammates he took a car (4 times) and won world championships. How good would he have been if he started with a lesser team and worked his way up? Would he always show that excellence and beat every teammate to clench a world title? I think not. He simply had the right path with the right car and his teammates simply could not fight him. Simple as that. It's a bit of luck and talent when it comes to f1 because it really is a team sport. There are drivers who if given the ideal pipeline could beat all teammates and then land a championship car and then win. That does not happen as often because the car is just an important to the driver who takes it to the podium. Meaning, if you have an above average driver (when compared to the grid) who is piloting a championship car will always win. That is why Vettel never bounced back. He went through several teams and teammates and never was anything special. F1 is for the most part a combination of drivers luck and baseline skill compared to the car they are given. Think of how many drivers during Vettels time (when he was winning) who if given the same machinery would dominate him. Equally, I would be interested in previous world champions being given less than optimal cars on the grid during the years they won and seeing where they place. This obviously will never happen because hindsight is not 20/20 in f1 unless your teammate is severely lacking and awful. If you are a good enough driver to luckily beat half the grid then odds are any teammate you are given will have less than a shot at beating you. That is, if you are a top 10 driver and you land a championship car depending on the competition you will almost always win. It is a game of probability because everyone is so good.
Sebastian, especially today couldn't hold a candle to Max... Plenty of F1 drivers have sweetheart stories, going all the way back to when they had to be put into carts / karts by their parents at age whatever... His golden years in this case were definitely fueled by RedBull getting ahead of the curve.. I'm not saying that Max isn't enjoying that as well with the latest RB... The difference is, and hate if you want, Max could jump into the weeker of the toro roso cars and quite possibly win by sheer will alone.. No TRUE racer likes 2nd place, much less being back in the back... I was and am a fan of Sebastian.. I don't think it was the cars that necessarily failed him... I think he fell in love with those championships, AND when Hamilton showed up, it through him off the game he got used to.. I have always been a mega fan of Senna.. I wish he hadn't died for a variety of reasons, and that we really missed out on Shui and him really getting it on.. He lost his edge, I do believe... Him coming back with a new Audi team would hurt the team, for sure.. There's no way unless they come up with some UFO delivered package will he beat either Max, Lewis, and a ton of other current talent.. That idea just has bad written all over it... Maybe if Audi puts out something impressive, they might just luck in to Max or Hamilton, etc. as their #1.. IF Sebastian wants to be in the paddock again, he should try out for pit bitch and work hard...
Seb can drive any car made ferrari look better than they were for very long and that took a mental toll on him that led to burnout. Poor charles and saintz they will find out soon enough.
The main problem for Vettle was odviously that Hamilton guy was just a bit too fast and too strong for him which was unfortunate because the Ferraris he drove in 2017-18 should of won as it was better than his main threat of Hamiltons Mercedes
If you take a tiger and from the jungle and put it in a swamp it will no longer rule the other creatures in this new environment and if you put a monkey in a land that has no trees it will become an easy target to predators. Any change to the environment leads to different results. If the animal was forced to change its environment it is pointless to stay in the game and it is better to announce retirement.

Yet Alonso still is driving an F1 car, and he suffered quite the same at Ferrari, did he not?
Great driver and should be remembered along with other legends.
He will be remebered as a side note that got beaten by average Leclerc and Kimi.
And for his social justice shenanigans

I rmb the days when i wanted to punch the guy at rb cus of his dominance, at ferrari he started strong, then after the slip ups of 2017 2018. Nah bruh not it, his 2022 abu dubai qualifying performance was probs his best in 3 seasons, 3 bloody seasons. Yes seeing him drive that AM like a beast to make sure he leaves on a high was amazing, but if ur a 4 time world champion, idn to wait 3 years to see a worldie performance like that
Seb was brutally fast in the right car but like most drivers he needed the car to fit his strengths in order to maximise his speed. This is true of even the best drivers in history and it was just unfortunate for Seb that he couldn't quite find that magic blend of driver and machine at Ferrari for in the V6 era in general. Not to mention how fast Mercedes and Lewis were at the time. - The only driver in my time watching F1 who seems to be able to drive anything at close to their maximum is Fernando but he is a freak of nature. I can't speak to the likes of Senna or Jim Clark because I only started watching in 1996 (by all accounts they were freaks of nature too). Seb was fast and mighty and should be considered a great of the sport regardless of his drop off after 2013.
Nicely put together story! I'm right now working on a "What if" documentary about Vettel's 2018 season and especially Hockenheim.
Correction, he is still a 4 time world champion.

Vettel got a Ferrari drive, he didn’t run away from Ricciardo. Heck Ricciardo got beaten by Kvyat the next season.
Ferrari is just hostile enviroment, riding a legendary status they dont live up to anymore. The comparison between Merc protecting Lewis at all cost and Ferrari saying: Seb fucked up in 2018 is just laughable. I respect Lewis but I dont thing even he could have won title with Ferrari in the last decade.
I wonder how awful to drive that 2018 car was, combined to him being under underground he pressure of the higher ups and not being protected at all for sure made him lose the trust In himself,
I believe not even Max couldnt cope with the Ferrari shenanigans non matter how impenetrable against pressure he is
@@elatetunic-wd9ig only guy who didn't buckle under pressure at ferrari after Michael was Alonso. Vettel as great as he was had Fernando's shoes to fill... and I don't think he was up to that task. @@LeicaFleuryI think Alonso still woulda been fucked in 2017. The only results Seb lost in 2017 were Singapore (Fernando wasn’t perfect, Fuji 07), Baku (Fernando def picks up points for the win here), and then silverstone Suzuka and Malaysia with tyre blowups and car problems. Not for sure winning, but getting it to the last race (that Mercedes was dominant at anyways so he prolly woulda lost 😂😂)
Point being 2017 was a no go, he drove very well but did 2 dumb things and had bad reliability so no chance even without mistakes.

3rd race on China, Ferrari ruined the strategy. No chance for Alonso, hopefully max doesn’t spin him

Spain ferrari fucked strategy.
Monaco Seb did great 2nd
Canada Seb did great win
Austria Seb did great for p3 but had a penalty from dumb shit in Fp2 or fp3, so Alonso probably finishes p2 ahead of Kimi with no penalty.
France Alonso 2nd, vettel had no podium
Silverstone vettel phenomenal win
Hockenheim nando win
Hungary Seb did great for p2, nando does same
Belgium great seb win, great nando win

Seb lost by 88, but nando takes at least 14 points off Lewis already at hockenheim and monza (theoretically), so yeah he definitely could have won it.

The answer of the question is in the title: Ferrari.
Notice how Christian Horner actually started to look like a proper man once Seb left Red Bull

i wouldnt bring Seb back for a simple reason. He wont be in the same form as someone who was on the sport uninterrupted. Dont forget what happened to Schumacher. Even him being a 7 times World Champion, had a rather unimpressive campaign in his years in Mercedes. lets better keep the memory alive, rather than killing it with a disapointing reality.
Tbf Michael stayed away from racing for too long, he was older than Seb when he came back and he also had a neck injury. There are many legends that come back from retirement. The most recent example is Alonso but it's not just him. Lauda and Prost also returned from retirement and they even won a championship.
However, I wouldn't bring Seb back either. I don't think he has the dedication and mental power for a comeback like this. At least, the Seb we saw in his last like 5-6 years didn't

What really happened to Vettel? I guess we’ll never know. The video certainly doesn’t tell us, but it’s a nice trip down memory lane nonetheless.

10:57 2019 was not charles rookie season lol
Hi, do you remember me?
I think another top driver would have won the 2018 championship with that Ferrari or at least be 30 points behind Lewis. No offense to Vettel, who is one of the best drivers in the history but in those years he no longer had the level he showed us in Red Bull. Sorry if I make some mistakes when writing, it's not my first language and I'm still learning.

Every other driver than these two mediocre drivers (kimi post 2008). Alonso Hamilton Leclerc Verstappen Riccardo Ocon all of them would be champions
as a vettel fan I agree his mistakes cost the title (if you estimate conservatively, he would have been neck-to-neck with lewis in points).
Ferrari will never win again unless they have strong leadership, otherwise more legends will join the list of not winning titles with ferrari. (Alonso, Vettel, Mansell, Prost). Who have 11 titles.
Being a ferrari fan is like being a man utd fan lmao
Maybe a bit more competitive, but no one, not even Lewis, would win in that Ferrari
The problem with Ferrari is their management, too much politics inside

Hamilton 2021 performance is proof of that. Having about the same difference in the pole positions yet fighting it till final match something Vettel didn't do.
also his love for ferrari become the reason for his downfall, had he moved to mercedes back in 2017, today he wouldn't be criticised n bashed by f1 fans all over the world like this n be considered unworthy of the 4 championships he has. his love for ferrari n his decision to stay at ferrari n do everything in his power to bring the championship back to maranello costed him his career and his legacy.

Great drivers go to die in Ferrari. It's a place of gross politics, bad reliability, and terrible bosses. What is upsetting is that now happening to Leclrec and Sainz. Im still not over Seb leaving F1. I always dreamt of seeing him win a championship again racing against lewis and im a massive lewis fan. #gomerc

As much as I like Seb, the best thing Audi could do is try to sign Verstappen. Saving him from a slowly crumbling Red Bull Racing.

He has a similar backstory to Leclear
If you take a tiger and from the jungle and put it in a swamp it will no longer rule the other creatures in this new environment and if you put a monkey in a land that has no trees it will become an easy target to predators. Any change to the environment leads to different results. If the animal was forced to change its environment it is pointless to stay in the game and it is better to announce retirement.
I like your videos but please pronounce the names normally.
Vettel was quick but needed the best car to get pole and ride off into the sunset - this is how he earned most of his wins. Aside from that, he could barely compete with Mercedes on his best days. Then he developed this chill, jesus personality when he realized he couldn’t win anymore. About it
There's no way he's coming back to race man, maybe as a team principal sure.
That Italian GP 08 couldn't of had a Main Team Red Bull Win, as Seb took out Mark very early on in the race, didn't he?? I've become a Seb fan over the year's, but not the early year's.
